WARNING! This anime is intended for mature audiences, as it contains blood and gore, graphic violence, nudity, drugs and alcohol, sexual situations and suggestive themes. Reccomended viewer age is 16-18 or older. (Could not find a higher quality image, sorry. >.<) Mnemosyne - Mnemosyne no Musumetachi (translated as "Mnemosyne - Daughters of Mnemosyne") was first aired on the AT-X Network in Japan on February 3, 2008 as a celebration for the network's 10th anniversary. It is the story of Asogi Rin, an immortal detective that is at least 1000 years old at the time the story begins. She, along with her (immortal) partner Mimi, work at "Asogi Counseling", their private investigation office, where they do strange cases of all kinds, such as searching for a lost cat, or something much more dangerous. One day, Rin's secret is revealed to someone who recently began working with her, a man named Maeno Kouki, and dark forces of a strange being named Eipos try to conquer the world and the magical tree called Yggdrasil. Throughout the series (which has a short length of six episodes, all 45 minutes long), themes of life, time, change, and aging are hidden in the script, as the series covers a 65-year time span (the first episode takes place in 1990, and the final two episodes take place in 2055) and shows blatant aging in the regular characters, aside from any immortals. So, what is this doing in the Pocky Shop? Well, as is quite obvious, this has shoujo-ai or yuri in it, in one form or another. It turns out, most of the sexual situations in the show revolve around lesbians. In every episode except the first one, there are female characters known only as "The Informants", who trade valuable information to Rin or Mimi in exchange for...well, what do you think? Not only that, but there seems to be some deeper-than-friendship relationship between Mimi and Rin, but whether it is love or not, I kind of doubt. (Also, according to Wikipedia, Mimi seems to have fallen in love with one of the Informants, but it doesn't seem to be the case from what I saw. Whatever, to each their own.) Though I don't think I need to repeat myself when I say that this is a mature anime; while it is not hentai, it goes quite borderline at times. Even more so, there are scenes of graphic and gorey violence all throughout, so if you are the faint of heart or weak of stomach, I advise against watching this. But if you can handle all of the aforementioned, I'd reccomend getting your hands on this sometime. There is also a manga and light novel currently being produced. If anyone has any news on those, please don't be hesitant to share. So, go and discuss to your heart's content.

I really like the summary/review you posted! It actually looks like a pretty good series, and the animation, particularly for action clips, looked excellent from the trailer I saw. There's only a slight chance I'll actually watch this one, though, since the sexual and violent themes are very evident and it's not really up my particular alley of interest.
But, from what you say, the depth and storyline of the series is pretty good, and the mystery it uses is definitely a huge draw. If I ever have time ad get around to this, it'll probably be a good watch.
If anyone else has more opinions on this, I'd totally like to hear them. Highlight what you liked personally?

I was trying to be less review-ish for this, actually. But if you want me to say stuff, I guess the action scenes are pretty good, the actors are super sweet, and the music's pretty good (especially the OP/ED themes, they are sooooo cool). The characters are really something, even if there is an occasional generic or cliche character. The only thing that irked me was it's ending, to be honest. It seemed kinda...well, aside from that, it is one awesome anime. I gives it a 9 out of 10. 3nodding

=D Really? That's a pretty high review for sure. Who were some of your favorite characters, though, and why? I'm kind of a character-attached person, really, so it helps a lot when I'm on a series.

Well, I'd have to watch it again to really be sure, but yeah, around 8.5 or 9 out of 10 is the score I'd give it. But, like you said, this series isn't really the kind that's up your alley, and if not, I completely understand. I feel a little odd when watching things like that, but shows like this have a unique...charm, for lack of better word.
Hmmm, favorite characters...that's kinda hard to do for this one, but I'll give it a shot.
Well, Eipos is the kind of villain that is a little generic, no real motive, but he is so maniacal, so cruel, and yet so calm, so cool, so collected, that he really sends chills down your spine. To add on to it, the "chess scenes" just blatantly show the extent of his cruelty, how much he does not care for others lives or well-beings. He's so evil, he's good.
Rin is also a pretty good character, as she is the type who is honest and kind, willing to help. Also, she does not lie to make people feel better. As she had stated in the first episode, "I can't say I understand how you feel. Your pain is your own." She also knows that being immortal is not a blessing, but at the same time, she has come to grips with it, and does not complain.
Those are my two favorites, I suppose. Since it only has six episodes, it doesn't have too many characters, and only has a little time to develop any major characters (even if they missed one or two, like Laura. I would've loved to know more about her). Mimi's not bad, but other than her trademark at the beginning's of episodes 1-4, being cute and a total computer genius, there's not much to say about her.
One last character worth mentioning, I guess would be Ruon. I can't really say much without spoiling episode 4, but let's just say...she's a little twisted.

debi watched this a while back ago!
i wasnt expecting much, but i acctually liked it it had a res. evil feel to it at one point, so plus on that and the bondage lady was crazy! haha, thats what i called her in my head xP
and so much blood! i love it >:]
she died a bajillion million times!
and i thought it was pretty damn sexy... the parts when rin and mimi kiss or how much shes attracted to angels
the more mature scenes werent so bad either like it wasnt too "in-your-face" like hentai is so im glad for that...
hmm, what else oh yeah, and i liked the storyline even though it was only 6 eps. it managed to get a whole lot in
so overall, id say this was a pretty good anime :] def. not something you would call boring

Oh? At what point did it have a "Resi Evil feel"?
*EPISODE 1 SPOILERS!!!* Was it the part with the zombie Lycoris people? *END SPOILERS!!!*
Yes, bondage lady was insane. xD And so, so, so much blood. Lovely.
Yeah, it was pretty...erm, sexy when all that stuff happened. I have to admit, it was pretty hot to see that, too.
Really? It seemed kinda "in-your-face" to me. How do you define "in-your face", by the way? And what's wrong with hentai, other than sucky plots and dubs? No, don't answer.
Glad you liked it. It certainly was not boring. ^^

Yes, the robot lady was pretty cool.
Upon second opinion, this is my new review: 8/10. While still a good watch and reccomended, I realize that this not really as great as I thought it was. It's still good, albeit a bit cliched and the animation could have been sharper and crisper, and the ending still could have been a lot better (people say I hate a lot of anime endings...) Nevertheless, watch it if you can. It's still worth a viewing or two all the way through.
This anime has not been licensed yet, so find fansubbed versions on the internet. Fansubbers include Ureshii and Doremi for English fansubs, and Octava no Fansubs for what appears to be a Spanish fansub, though it could be Portugese or Italian; I can't tell the difference. Anyways, there you have it if you are so interested. If this does get licensed, I'll let you know.

How I missed this, I do not know, as this is very important. To make a long story short; Mnemosyne has been licensed now. The long story comes here.
On February 20, 2009, FUNimation Entertainment has stated that they had now acquired the rights to dub and release Mnemosyne in the United States and Canada under the title Rin ~ Daughters of Mnemosyne. Apparently, they plan to double the episodes by cutting the run time of each one in half. Personally, I feel that this is unnecessary as it ruins the flow of the story. The first DVD release is planned for later this year. I promise, I'll announce this as soon as I can.

FUNi's been moving away from singles recently, and splitting episodes up is pointless if it's a boxset. Otherwise, I'm pretty excited about this. Mnemosyne sounds really interesting, and I don't usually have a problem with the content you mentioned. I also need to support anything that has a woman in a suit.

That's really strange that they'd split episodes, but I guess they've got some reason behind it. Hopefully they explain this; it's not that big of a change, but it's still a really bizarre move. I highly doubt there will be censoring, myself. That's a surefire way to lose purchases (including mine), and it doesn't sound like you could censor this show to make it appeal to a younger demographic to make up for it. The only recent cases of censoring that I can think of all had uncut DVDs or were released by 4Kids, as well. I could be proven wrong, though.

narutoxhieixfangirl That sounds like an interesting anime. I'd love to check it out if anyone has any links. biggrin I just noticed that someone posted. Sorry if this information isn't useful anymore. sweatdrop FUNimation's site has streams of most of their licenses, but this seems to be an exception. I can link you to a few places to buy the DVDs, and you can stream it if you have Netflix (and you can download the episodes from some places like Amazon VOD, apparently). Beyond that, I don't know where you'd look; I'm certain the episodes are out there, but I haven't watched fansubs in a while.
