... If that's all that your 'rant' amounts to, then you're really not up to defending your case, I'd say.
Not that I don't agree with your title. I've been writing fics for almost ten years and always trying to improve. I look at stuff I wrote five years ago and cringe, and I can't look at stuff I wrote ten years ago.
My tip would be... Give them time. Kids will always be the most inclined to write shitty self-indulging idiotic pieces of garbage and tag'em 'fan fiction' just to look cool. Then they grow up and realize that yes, there's more to a story than the hottie main villain and the hottie main villain getting banged by the hottie main character.

lolol, which reminds me of my first ever fanfic, that was a disaster redface ...
but i never had a problem with grammar and spelling, so i guess i should pat myself on the back -pat-
