I am currently locked in our office with no way out. Ethan thought it would be funny to turn the lock on the door and shut it. (Yes, it's on the outside so we can lock the room up when we're done.) So he's out in the rest of the house and I'm in here waiting for DH to get home and save me as I have nothing to free myself from inside.

Now I realize this is a fairly common Mommy-plight, so discuss amongst yourselves any time your toddler got the better of you and locked you out/in a place or your home. lol

I have to laugh a little bit, because I've SO been there, done that. Might I recommend (depending on your locks of course) having a key in that room? My kids like to lock the bathroom door for whatever reason, so I have a little "key" that unlocks it (it's one of those doorknobs with the hole in the front to unlock).

Now, my story of being locked out!

We were living in an apt at the time. Ds was probably about the same age as yours. We lived on the second floor and the washer and dryer were outside on the patio. The sliding glass doors were in the bedroom and the living room. I usually liked to keep them locked.

Well, I figured ds was behaving ok, watching a kids show, why not go knock out a loud of laundry? I go out there and start to walk back. Ds looks at me and closes the door. Haha, a fun game to close the door. Then he goes for the switch. I remember being all NOOOOO when he went for the lock.

So, I got locked out. Windows were no go, the other door was locked. He stood there for a moment with the look on his face of smug satisfaction. It's great to go through the stages. Stern mommy "open the door NOW!" to "please unlock the door" sweet voice. He watched me for a few minutes before plopping down on the couch and ignoring me.

Of course, NO one was outside anywhere near the apt building. It did suck because I had to wait till dh got home from work (which luckily was about that time!) which was about 15 minutes.

Just before she turned two, my daughter decided to push her "time out chair" (an antique wooden chair) over to the front door and play with the lock and dead bolt one day. I kept moving the chair back and telling her not to play with the locks, but the moment I was out of the room for ANYTHING, she and her chair were back at the door.

I had called my husband to have him stop at Babies-R-Us and pick up those door knob covers for a few (more) rooms including the front. A solution would arrive in a few hours. Haha!

So late afternoon, I walked down to the mailbox while Raelin was engrossed in a movie (probably Cars... it's been the featured film in our house stare ) As I returned to the front door, I heard a distinct "click". The wonderful sound of the deadbolt sliding into place. O_O

I ran around to the side of the house where, thankfully, I had opened the window! I began calling to Raelin through the screen saying "Sweetie, go unlock the door for Mommy." Her unfaltering response was "Hi, Mommy!!" So there I was, no cellphone to call for help, no friends in the neighborhood to help and wouldn't you know the spare key was sitting by the door awaiting a secret home outside?

It took about ten minutes of pleading and a bribe of sweets to get Raelin to leave the TV and unlock the door.

Here I am with a big grin on my face, reading your stories.

Luckily Aden's only 5 months old... but now that I've read (and laughed at) your stories, karma will probably get the better of me, and one day I'll end up locked in or out of somewhere.

When that day comes, I'll tell you ladies about it, and you can laugh at me.

I had to call him to come home on his lunch. I was fortunate enough to have remembered to take my cellphone in there with me, or else I would have been in the room for about 4 hours before he would have been home for the day.

I think I was in there about 20 minutes, all told. When I first called him, I had to repeat myself because he wasn't sure he had heard me correctly. He spent a good chunk of his time home trying to find anything in the office that could have been used to free myself and had to admit, there was nothing in there. We now have a "key" we rigged up so that if it happens again, I can free myself and in about 10 seconds.

I fear the day he finally locks himself in the bathroom...I did it, and so did all 3 of my siblings. It's like some twisted little family tradition.

Tristan hasn't locked me/him in/out of anywhere, but he has the tendancy to get his head stuck in odd places. O_o
