There was a time in my life when magic meant nothing. Magic was the creation of fantasies and daydreams, magic was the birth-child of a long, spiraling trip to failure, magic was what you relied on when you had nothing left to cling to.
That was before I met Liulfr.
I'm surprised we got off so well. He's a tad... mental, but then again, so am I. Something happened to him, I suppose, or maybe he was just born that way, but there's something not quite right in his head. It's as if his kill switch is constantly on, along with his civility switch and his social contact switch. Naturally, that's a dangerous combination. Still, I can't say I'm unhappy with it. When he gets bored of his home, he comes to visit me, though he usually expects me to go to him, and with a gift of food. I showed up once without anything and never did again.
It's an odd thing, getting to know a Hellhound. They have about the same needs, only far more primal than any human today, and yet they can speak our language. Of course, being from a line of gods, I assume that's only natural. Liulfr has been explaining a lot to me, and while I know some myself of Norse mythology, it was only ever that; myth. Yet, now... well, now it's become my dream. A dream of hounds to keep Liulfr company in his home cave and to make sure I don't get myself killed, really.
"Hello, Edgewood!"
The old man looked up at me with a cynical look in his eye. "What do you want?" he asked, surprised and probably put off by my happy nature around him. "Well, you see, Edgewood, I'm thinking I need another hound. But, the thing is, I'm pretty picky about who goes to live with Liulfr. He's slightly... well," I paused and swirled my finger around my temple, and he snorted. "Aren't we all?" I laughed and nodded. "True, true, we are. But with Li, it's more of an 'I'll kill you if you don't bring me food,' situation. I just need another hound to keep him out of trouble, and away from my calves." The older man snirked, as if amused, and then handed me the form.
"Go choose a package, and when your finished--" "I know, I know. Fill out the appropriate form and sign my name in blood. I've got the box razor all ready for that part, my friend." I flashed him a twisted smile, and then went to examine the packages.
Now, let's see...
