I'm always interested in hearing about people dealing with the controversy of having tattoo's and piercings.
Such as;

Getting a job in a semi-closed mineded society:
What does your familia think about it?[
Or any other obvious or not so obvious topics.

hmmm where to start LOL best place would be my job

I work in a Tim Horton's and where people in other stores are allowed to have tasteful tats on their forearms at my store this is not permitted we much cover them if we have them .. and like most have already seen in the other thread I plan on getting some on my forearms unfortunately i will have to cover them for 8 hours a day making my customers think that i I slicing the crap outta myself for fun. As for piercings we are ONLY allowed to have plain studs one hole. NO other facial piercings or any other body piercings unless they are religious Which I think is a load of bull

Now for my family my mom thinks my first two tats are cute but is not too keen on the size and location of my third but is slowly getting over it .. lol she doesn't want me to gauge to a 10 and would rather me stick to the 14 lol
My father hates tattoos but is ok with his kids having them but doesn't like looking at them all the time
my sisters and brother all have them and like them lots so they are all cool with it lol
my step parents are totally different .. my step mom is indifferent and doesn't really say much about it.. my step dad has two himself and is ok with mine smile

My wife on the other hand is hot and cold on tats she is ok with some but not ok with others .. she hates really large tats lol but is ok with mine and she is a piercing freak she loves them lol but would never get certain ones

I am retired (babysit grandkids currently), so I have no problems now. I was a cook for many years at a Head Start (daycare) so I tried to keep my tattoos in areas that could be covered easily.
Both of my parents have passed on, but I am sure my Dad would not have cared, BUT Mama would have hated them. In in-laws were ok with a couple (they both have one) but then they stated complaining after the third one, so I stopped showing (or telling) them. I am positive they know I have more, but not how many, as long as I don't say anything, neither do they. Most of the rest of my family, just think (know) I am different and odd, lol.
My husband and both of my daughters have tattoos and piercings.

@Granny E: You sound really awesome! I wish my nana was as cool as you. This sort of ties in with what MY family thinks about it. xD

My mom could care less what I get pierced as long as it's not on my face ("YOUR FACE IS TOO PRETTY TO HAVE METAL SHOVED THROUGH IT"), but my dad would just assume I don't. xD He's usually alright with me getting piercings, but I have to bring up a really good argument to sway him. Took a good year before he let me pierce my belly button. X_x But yeah, if I just lived with my mom, she'd be like, "Eh, who cares. Go get your ears pierced all you want. They're just holes. It's better this than you doing drugs and s**t, so get all the piercings and weird hair you want. NO DRUGS, DRINKING, OR SEX." xD

My nana hates everything I do. I can do nothing to please her, so I've simply stopped caring to try. xD I told her I got my bellybutton pierced and she called me a harlot. So now I don't tell her anything. biggrin She's still oblivious to my new ear piercing I got on my latest birthday, and I'd just assume it stayed a secret.

My other grandparents (mom's parents) don't have an opinion one way or another. My papa always loves my hair (especially when it's dyed all candy-apple red), and thinks I'm just 'cute as a button,' so he doesn't really care. I'm not sure Grammy knows, but she probably doesn't really care, either. xD

Well my major WAS nursing, but after a year of classes im taking a break because i dont know if thats what i want to do.

They DO NOT allow piercings or tattoos unless you work in a s**t place.
Like a nursing home where people are co-dependent on you. Thats pretty much it.

I think i want to be an environmental science major, and help save the Earth, or teach it to high school kids.

That also is strict, but not AS strict in the high school ages. ^^
Makes me happy.

My family is torn, they say piercings are okay, but my dad is a die hard baptist and since tattoos are a no-no in the Bible, they're not cool with him.
But he tolerates it *shrugs*

Seems like a lot a people face the same problems. I havent gotten a job yet cause i've been sick since i got my first one, I have four now, all visible pretty much. And four facial piercings among others. Parents dont like them, except two of them were to cover up some scars that i wasnt happy with, so they were kinda okay with those two, but ahh.

I plan on getting a job that allows them, because you its cool to have people randomly ask you about them and what they mean. It brightens up my day=)

I love hearing piercing and tattoo stories=D

i keep my mods (expecially tattoos) where they can be covered by a tshirt and jeans for job reasons...but if i ever hit it as a musician that'll change razz

i hate not being able to have them out and show them off to the world but that's the world we live in.
my family generally likes my tattoos..expecially my son he loves them and wants his own when he turns 18..11 years from now.

I have my own housecleaning business and I haven't ever had a problem with any of my clients and my tattoos. I just don't make a big deal of them. When I go to do a quote on a potiential clients home, I don't purposely cover up my tattoos. I figure if they don't like them and don't hire me because of that then I wouldn't have wanted to clean for them anyway. I have been in the business for over 11 years and only had my tattoos for the past 4 years, but I have a very good reputation and if that's not enough then it is their loss.

As for family and friends, friends no problem. I am a Christian and attend a very large Baptist Church. No one there has ever given me any problems. They see me and not necessarily my tattoos. Even if any of them did have a problem, I go there to worship my Savior and have fellowship with other Christians, not to impress them. As for family, only my older sister so far has had an attitude about them. Thinks I'm ruining my body with them and shouldn't allow my kids to get them. Like when they are 18 I have a choice. xp I am blessed with wonderful kids and as long as they are wise about what and where they are tattooed, I don't have a problem. They are still young and need to establish themselves in their careers first before going to the point of having prejudice against them and losing opportunities. They aren't much into piercings, but there dad says no face piercings. Tattoos fine, he has them, but no face piercings. It's just his thing.

That's about it. I do expect my soon to be 7 mth. old granddaughter to one day want tattoos. With all her immediate family having them, I expect she will want to have "pictures on her too"! smile

I intend on being an archaeologist, so it doesn't really matter what I look like. I wont be dealing with the general public, unless I decide to work in a museum or as a professor in my later years. And by then, I might be more willing to remove some of my piercings. (Though I doubt this- the university I'm at right now seem's pretty cool, and the professors all look different.)

My family doesn't care- owning a tattoo and piercing business, it is pretty much expected of me to be covered.
My mom has actually tried to talk me into getting more facial piercings and I'll have to tell her no, that four is enough for my face. xD

I've had many people tell me that if I were to get more piercings that it would make me unattractive to their eyes. But to them, I always reply "then I suppose its a good thing that I don't get piercings to look attractive to other people." And its true- my piercings are for me. As is my hair, clothing, and make up choices. My apperance is my own, and I don't intend on changing it for anyone. One of my boyfriends was dead against me dying my hair, or getting piercings... and I did anyways.
Piercings give me confidence, they make me like my apperance more.

I work at Starbucks currently which is very much with the serious business. Let me tell you that having to swap out your brand ******** new lip piercing with a section of bioplas is no ******** picnic.

Basically if I'm wearing a t-shirt or short sleeved polo shirt, I have to wear a tensor bandage to cover the bottom of my Harley Quinn tattoo, I always have to wear a wrist band of some sort (usually a nominally spiky one) to cover the spider there, and I can't wear shorts because of the one on my calf. Did I mention that I work at a beach store?

I deal with it, but that doesn't lessen the absurdity of the situation. Especially given that all you can usually see of my HQ tattoo is a black diamond and the spider on my wrist is ostensibly the spiderman logo.

It's only really institutional prejudice like that I let get to me because of how hypocritical and senseless it is. I think it was Chris Nunez that said "We want people to pick up their children when they see us coming."

My mom hates the fact that I have tattoos, but she understands that is means a lot to me.
My boss respects my tattoo [I only have one that's always visible on my forearm], but doesn't like that it's shows.
I have an older brother who is ink-free and an older sister who has a tattoo. It's a ridiculous tat, in my opinion, because she's a German girl with Chinese on her ankle. XD lol

lol @ the quote, and lol @ Starbucks.
I'm surprised that they would have a problem with tattoos considering the type that generally apply there, but what do I know. Nowadays it's a rarity to find someone of our generation that isn't tattooed.

And Harley Quinn? I don't think I've seen a good Harley Quinn in a long time.

My job doesnt really hav any policy about peircings, the only reason i dont hav any in my face yet is from shear laziness. and as for tattoos, well as long as theyre not on my face and not showing any visable questionable stuff (having a naked girl on my cheek wud totally be inapropriate). but other than that I hav no real restrictions.

As for my family, some said that i should choose things wiser than I hav. but i hav reason enuf for each and every tattoo to satisfy me. surprisingly the ones that giv me the most hassle about my tattoos are my friends that are my age and younger... they just think of what ill look like wen im old and wrinkley... which is conserning for a whole bunch of other reasons. but yea,,, thats about it

It all depends on what I wear for whether or not my tattoos show. And the only piercings I have are tons on my ears. Getting pierced anywhere else makes me feel lightheaded. They look awesome, but I psych myself out.

Anyways my boss doesn't really care that I have tattoos, but he doesn't like them. He tells me all of the time that I'm going to regret them. I won't. But eventually if I am still working where I'm and I progress on getting sleeves I will wear long sleeves under my scrubs in respect of him not liking them. I also do not want the clients to get offened that I'm covered in tattoos as well. You do what you have to do to keep a job but still be yourself outside of work.

And my family loves them! Obviously b/c my mom is the one who created this guild. Everyone in my immediate family has tattoos. Except for my brother, but he just turned 18 yesterday, so that is soon to come.

Well when I first started working on my tattoos I worked in a Starbucks inside of a Safeway. This Starbucks is owned by Safeway so we had to follow their rules. I got a large piece on my upper back, it starts on the back of my neck. They made me wear a low pony tail to cover it with a hairnet to cover the bun, they would not let me wear a white shirt because they were afraid someone would be able to see through it. I live in a pretty small town in Arizona that is FILLED with old people. Here Safeway is the "upper class" grocery store so the old people pretty much owned it. (I know it sounds lame but that is serioulsy how the people here are). Now I work at our local hospital in the Sterile Processing Department. I hide in the basement and clean instruments from the OR. No one sees me really (except the people I work with) and no one cares. If I do go onto the floor people are sick or fresh out of the OR and have too much other stuff to worry about. I am planning on getting a full sleeve and finishing the half sleeve on my other arm. I have a very large chest piece that I LOVE! I am also creating a piece to attach to my upper back piece and make a full back piece. I am going back and forth on some idea's for my leg, but this all costs money so it will take awile. I am currently a nursing student and am very happy to work at the hospital and understand the policies on tattoos, which are if it's not offensive it can show. We have a doctor that has them on his neck.
As for my family. My mom HATES every last one of them. The only possitive thing I get out of her is "Atleast you found and good artist" My dad isn't in my life but I am sure he would hate them. The rest of my family is fine with it.
