Faline lay quietly on the edge of her marked territory and gazed up at the sky, the mist actually hung low this night and allowed her to view the moon and stars. She was pleased with how her pack was shaping up, soon she would gather them all together, show them the den she had chosen and expanded. Together they would make this land work for them, she had a lead hunter, a sweet female who might someday soon be a keeper of the pups, and a scout who was quite sharp of wit. A few more hunters, or warriors and she would feel secure in her packs ability to handle anything.
She wondered if others of her kind had tried to start packs, if they craved company as she did. She wondered if any had success, that she doubted for never had she come across any established land. Her diamond blue eyes pierced the night as she scanned around her, ever alert, even as she lay in rest and contemplation.

Nocturne sniffed the air, breathing in the scents of mist, night, and earth, while searching among those for the scent of prey. Yes. This was her joy. The thrill of the hunt, the chase, and the final triumphant feeling she got from a successful kill. She loved to hear the sound of her own victorious howl once the hunt was finished. Suddenly, the scent of a deer drifted toward her through the mist. Yes. This was what she had been waiting for. Nocturne stalked through the mist, remaining downwind of her prey, ears up and listening for any sign that the deer might have heard her approach. When she was within a good distance Nocturne bolted for the buck, jaws snapping. The animal panicked, and in its fear, headed deeper into the mist. Cursing her misfortune, Nocturne loped after her prey. The deer had the advantage of being fast, but Nocturne had more endurance, and perhaps more patience too. So she simply followed the buck's trail for a while. When she had thoroughly tired out the animal, Nocturne lunged at it. She clamped her jaws on its throat with all her strength, swiftly dealing the blow that ended it's life. Once she was sure it was finished, Nocturne released the buck, and let out a victory howl that echoed through the misty night air.

Faline jerked to her feet at the sound of another howl, it was close, too close. She could tell another was in her lands, and now she was protective, perhaps overly so but who could blame her? She had managed to carve out a chunk of territory right in the middle of oblivion, she had united hounds and she wouldn't let anyone start to push in on her new friends and family.
She followed the howl to its source and frowned "Halt! You are on claimed land..." Her eyes trailed to the dead buck and her frown remained in place, without knowing it the female must have run in while on the hunt. Faline wouldn't accuse the unknowing femme of poaching, but she would have to set better, stronger scent lines.

Nocturne looked up from her kill, realizing what this scene might look like to the other hound who had just approached. If she herself had been owner of these lands, Nocturne would have probably thought the hunter was stealing prey from her pack, and dealt with the supposed poaching severely. This female had not accused her of such, but seemed willing to hear her explanation instead. So Nocturne decided that such an explanation would be necessary. She sat down, showing that she had no intention of running away. Avoiding a confrontation by running was just what a poacher probably would do. Nocturne then proceeded to give her explanation. "Forgive me for intruding on your lands. I had been tracking a buck for some time, and the animal unwisely decided to bolt for the mist. I followed it. I had not eaten for a while, as loners like me often don't eat for days. When I finally realized that these lands were yours, it was too late to turn back, and so here I am now."

Faline looked over the well built female and down at the buck with intelligent blue eyes. She turned her gaze back to the female and walked closer to sit infront of her. "You took that buck down alone?"
Faline was mildly surprised, and now she was curious, it sounded as if the female was hungry, yet clearly she was a skilled huntress even when not at her full potential. Perhaps she would be interested in joining the pack? Randulfr would need more then himself after all, and this capable female would make an excellent hunting partner for him. With his nose, and her obvious ability to track mist or no mist, she must have run the buck into the ground with dogged persistance.

Nocturne nodded, with a slightly pleased-looking smile appearing on her face. Nocturne hoped she didn't seem too proud to the other female. "Indeed. As I mentioned before, the buck ran straight into your lands, and in my hunger, I pursued it. Perhaps the mist helped hide my scent from him while I followed at a moderate distance. I'm not sure why, but it seems that the mist affects others' senses more strongly than mine. Of course, it was helpful to me in this case. I may not be able to see well in the mist, but I can see better than most, and certainly my sense of smell is still keen."

"Your an excellent huntress, even in this wild fog." She nodded softly as she listened to the other female explain. It would be useful to have her within the pack, between Randulfr and this quick witted female there would be food aplenty for all.
She jerked to attention and smiled "How rude of me, I'm Faline. You'll have to forgive my abruptness, but I'm alpha of this territory now and with all the mist it's hard to enforce the boundary lines."

Nocturne nodded. "Thank you for the compliment on my skills, Faline. I know very little about running a pack, so I cannot help you much there, but I do love hunting. Could your pack use another hunter perhaps? I am currently a loner, as I mentioned before." She stopped briefly then added, "My name is Nocturne, by the way."

"Nocturne, I believe your skills could be of great use. My lead hunter has eagle eyes, but with your keen nose added to the group the two of you could greatly aid the pack." She nodded and tipped her head at the female.
"That is if you don't mind working with others?"
