So many times before, when the topic of bi/lesbian/gay people pops up around my friends, their noses scrunch up and they start saying cruel things gonk
Most of the time they'll say stuff like:
"Being gay is wrong and it's a sin. It's in the bible."
I told her:

"Do you know what else is in the bible? It says that God loves ALL OF US!! And it also says that everyone is a sinner. Everyone's sinned. So don't judge others before you judge yourself."

What do you think about when people try to through religion into homosexuality?

I think people have their own morals, beliefs and religions they follow and I respect that.

I'm not one to debate about it because I usually would be fighting a loosing battle because there's no point in telling someone to be okay with homosexuality when they aren't or they choose not to because of their religion.

Sadly, acts of homosexuality IS a sin according to the bible. So is bathing. xd

Religion causes so many wars. Like you posted it is often one of the reasons why people think homosexuality is wrong.

No offense, but for these reasons I think the world would be better off without most of the religions out there. The only decent one that doesn't descriminate that I can think of from the top of my head is Wicca. Sorry, but in my eyes non-theistic ones don't qualify as a true religion since in my eyes the main point of a religion is the God(s)/Goddess(es).

I'm an Atheist but I was raised a Catholic.

I base my morals one what my heart tells me (sounds corny but it true). If I get a bad feeling such as fear/guilt/disgust about something then I don't do it. When confronted with people saying "youre going to hell", or "what you do is disgusting and if you don't repent your blah blah blah"

I reply one of the followings

"Dude if I don't belive in your bible god, then that means I don't believe in your hell. So logically you can't scare me about something I don't believe in"

or

"Well since we all are probably going to hell in a hand bag. I figure I might as well live a life that makes me happy until that time."

and then there are some others

Personally I agree that being homosexual is NOT a sin. Since when was loving a sin? Nothing is wrong with it.

The opinions that Christians have on this actually differ. There are many types of Christians with different interpretations and version of the bible. Although it's true that some Christian denominations completely view homosexuality as a sin, there are some that are more tolerant to it. Even in a single denomination, followers can be divided on their views. There are some Christians who believe that although homosexuals aren't a sin, they shouldn't take part in sex because it would be unnatural. (This leads to different views on marriage but let's not go there) Lastly, there are even Christians who absolutely believe that God made homosexuals the way there are and that they have every right to do the same things that heterosexuals can.

I'm a Catholic myself and its views on homosexuality would be the middle one - it's not a sin but having sex would be. But as I stated before, my personal views are for the complete acceptance of homosexuality. It may seem weird for me to be a Catholic and gay at the same time but I'm still young so the sex thing isn't a concern yet. When I get there, I'll deal with it. The main thing for now is that I believe in the important stuff, God and the like. But I should point out that lots of so called Christians don't follow the "don't have sex" or "don't use condoms (lol)" rules either.

Furthermore there was something related to this that I read the other day:
In one of Brent Hartinger's books on the lives of gay teens, one of the main characters was forced to go talk to a local Catholic priest. The guy tell the priest that making homosexuals live sex-free lives is stupid and unfair. Shockingly, the priest confesses that not all the stuff that the Church has written in the Cathecism (this book that states what Catholics believe) is 100% true and they know that but it would be hard for them to change their stand. If they concede that they were wrong about something, people would start talking about how maybe they might be wrong about a lot of other things.

That just struck me. If that really is true then it's kind of sad. The Church has to stand up for things that they know isn't absolute because doing otherwise would mean that their main message would be totally overshadowed by doubt. That in turn leads to people like us having to deal with prejudice. So basically, life just loves screwing around with people.

Well, I'm Canaanite, & it says no where in any of the books I've read that homosexuality was frowned upon. However, if someone who's christian, or jewish, or muslim says that to my friends, I'd usually say that their religion's pretty sinful/wrong/crazy too. I mean, think about it this way, some guy (Abraham) hears a voice (god) & it tells him to kill his son, & he almost does it. Anyone see anything wrong/sinful/crazy about that?

Firstly, I think the whole thing of turning to the bible to prove something is "wrong", ie that it is a sin, is a stupid thing to do.

And when that happens, I generally trot out this lovely image I found somewhere^^:

Because God is the good guy and knows best. Totally.
Wait, no.
Scratch that - reverse it. rolleyes

I think it is a terrible thing when people say things like that. I bothers me when people hide behind and use religion to feed their hatred and prejudice. It makes me wonder if things will ever get better.

I respect what people believe in, and follow, but what I don't respect is when people force things like 'It's in the bible' kind of s**t on others. Such as forcing kids not to be gay, usually force from peers, or family. I find that wrong.
Along with the fact that if God created everything, and gay is something that was created, then what makes everyone so damn sure God isn't bisexual or gay?
I know I am probably wrong in that suspection, but still.
And, as it has probably been stated several times..
EVERYONE SINS...
So there's my 2 cents.

Yeah, it really bothers me when people use the bible against something that they are not willing to learn or understand. Knowledge is power people!

But, I could just turn right around and tell them all the other stuff it says are a sin in the bible and see if they do those things. And then if they come back with, "Well, the bible shouldn't be interpreted literally." Yeah, I'd just watch them walk away.

Or I'd ask them in they were Catholic, and if they say yes, I would ask them why they're bothering with things in the Old Testament. As far as I know, only one of the books in the New Testament has anything to say about homosexuality (I'm not an expert or anything... haven't read the bible from cover to cover. xD ). But I think the writer was just pissed about something at the time. Jesus said, "Love thy neighbor as you love thyself." I think Jesus could have cared less about homosexuals.

And yes, as others have said, everyone sins. Not really any way around it.

Unfortunately its a lie God does not love everyone. Seriously read the bible and ask yourself if God loves everyone?

And according to the bible it is a sin to be a homosexual. Sorry thats how it is and to say otherwise is a lie.

Honestly, do you care what christians think? Remember the fairy tales they pass of as the ******** em

The thing about religion is that your reading a book that is so old that so much of what was then doesn't apply now. By today's standards the world has changed dramatically so. And a lot of those old rules in the bible would have less meaning nowadays. I think that religion is fine. But at the end of the day it is about thinking for yourself. Thats the funny thing about free will. Its fine and dandy until someone questions the things that your doing in relation to what religion one follows.

Homosexuality is supposedly a sin. But then again isnt this the same book that states women should be submissive to their husbands? Very outdated. But I personally have no objection to those people who are homosexual or bi. I think that is a personal choice and I dont feel that they would be excluded from heaven, if they believe in god. Just for that reason alone.

Know what else the Bible says?

That slavery is okay and women should stay below men.

So you can totally use that against black people or women when they say things like, "Being gay is a sin because the Bible says so."

Just because the Bible says it doesn't make it right.

My sig says it all. Seriously...if a book supposedly tells me to hate someone because of something stupid, then I'm not going to listen.

vergere brings up a point that makes me question myself; what if I had a chance a be a servant of: God or Satan?

Choice: Don't hate me, but I would choose to be Lucifer's servant. I mean, he tortures evil souls right? It would give me great pleasure in doing that too. >=D***
