Another peeve of mine is the commonly used phrase used by people.
"Dude, that math test was gay."
"Today was freaking gay."
My parents have always taught me not to say "that's retarded," so why would "that's gay," be any better???
What's your veiw on the subject?

It's just another fad phrase at the moment; another saying. I hope it blows over because it irks me a bit.
I doesn't bother me that much because a lot of my friends use it (they try not to around me) but if it's someone I dislike and they use it, and I'm in a bad mood, there's a good chance I'll start up a "conversation" with them about that word. xD;

I HATE it when people say that! It's like their saying gays are stupid and immoral.
Several times when I've been in a bad mood I've heard others say this. I end up yelling at them: "Just shut up!"

When I hear that being said a lot by someone I usually speak up and say something along the lines "Oh sorry that's my bad. Guess my gay ways went off and corrupted another thing rolleyes ". People tend to shut up after

I actually use to say this all the time when I was straight. Every now and then I would think about how offensive it was to gay people but because I heard it all the time, it became a habit for me to use "gay" to negatively describe things. However now that I identify as gay myself, I've pretty much removed it from my vocabulary.
The difference is weird though, now when I hear words such as "gay" and "homo" being used so casually they trigger flashing lights in my head or give me a queasy feeling. If it's someone I don't know well or someone who doesn't know about my orientation, I worry if they're homophobic. But I know most of the people around me aren't so if I feel comfortable enough I usually respond pretty calmly with some sarcasm to try and shame them into realizing that they shouldn't be saying stuff like that.

Well, both don't make any sense. "Thats retarded" means that "Thats slow" so unless you're talking about a car, or something, it doesn't make sense. "Thats gay" means "Thats happy" or "Thats homosexual" so unless you're talking about a person, or animal, it doesn't make sense either. But its just something people say, theres nothing you can do about it, really. They say "Thats gay" cause "Thats retarded" sounds stupid, & takes longer to say.

Meh, it doesn't really bother me that much. Just one of those phrases that will go away eventually.
My friends and I even use it on occasion. Even my straight friends, and it doesn't bother me.

I never said it doesn't. But like I said, you can't do anything about it, people will always say that. Just like people will always say racial slurs. Its not like you can outlaw the term, I mean its their body, let them do whatever they want with it. However, the second they lay a hand on someone else's body, there's when it turns into a problem.

It annoys the h*** out of me. I mean if the persons not gay don't say it and as a bi chic i find offensive. Like someones making fun of me by saying it even if they arn't meaning to but you got to understand i came from a small town full of Hillbillys and lots of homophobes i'm actually somtimes to walk down the street at night afraid i might be bashed.
