On the boundless main
Beneath the azure sky
Sails a ship, The Nebuchanezzar
Across the sea she flies.

Her crew strong
Her captain fierce and proud
Sailing for riches and adventure
'Neath the skull and crossbone shroud...

Ahem... I, Count Marius de Orleans, captain the Nebuchanezzar. For years I have tarried with thieving politicians and backstabbing beureaucrats with my face turned away. I have countless riches and a vast estate, but it is all nothing to me now... My love is for the sea. And more importantly... *smirks deviously* What treasures she guides along. I have turned to piracy with open arms. Care to join me?

History:

Marius de Orleans was born to Count Albert de Orleans and Countess Jeanevive of Le Rochelle on the 12th of August in Orleans. His mother, sadly, did not survive the pregnancy, and was buried soon after in the private cemetary on the estate grounds, the Chateau D'eu. Marius' father was never the same after his countess had passed, and neither was Marius, having learned of her death years later.
Through most of his childhood, Marius was taught by the finest scholars in France, learning everything from economics to fencing, in which he excelled at. One of his tutors, Monsieur Francois Montescue actually lived with the father and son at the chateau, acting as both a tutor to young Marius and consul to the Count Albert. Because of his mother's passing, Marius was kept inside of the estate grounds during his entire childhood, due mainly to his father's great fear of "losing his son".
Marius' unquestioned obedience carried on like this through most of his childhood, at least until he was 15. That is when he started desiring something more. He had read many of the books in their library, but the ones that truly captured his heart and imagination were those stories of the sea. There have been many a time when he would stare out of the window of his study out towards the horizon, dreaming of sailing, of ships, and of the sea. Yet, at the end of the day, he was brought back to his prospective and somewhat boring reality; that of French nobility, and all of the duties the title requires.
At the age of 16, which was the coming of age for young men and women, he was introduced into politics, meeting many of Frances nobles and politicians, liking very few, and trusting none of them. To him, they were all lying, thieving hypocrites with greedy hands and clever tongues. Though none dare to try and beguile his father, the Count Albert, many sought to corrupt young Marius with their views and ways and ideals... But Marius was much cleverer than them to be tricked and manipulated by them. Through these meetings and social balls, he learned how to play the political game, preying upon peoples ideas and how to manipulate the politicians and nobles; a skill he did not openly use, but thought handy to learn regardless. Around the age of 19, the Count Albert died after contracting pneumonia, leaving the Chateau D'eu and his vast fortune to his only son, Marius, naming him Count Marius de Orleans.
Despite such tragedy, the now Count Marius de Orleans reluctantly assumed the responsibilities of his late father, if only for a time. Now that he had become a count and acquired such a vast fortune, he named his former tutor and friend of the family, Monsieur Francois Montescue Chief Consul, and head of his estate in Marius' absence. With those measures in place, for Francois was highly knowledgeable in finances and economics, Count Marius took to Le Rochelle, home of his late mother. There he purchased a large galleon, named The Nebuchanezzar, from the East India Trading Company. His only task left is to hire on a crew, now finally taking on his lifelong dream of sailing the open seas...

The smell of the tangy mixture of sea water and fish, rotted and fresh, drifts to Marius' nose as he walks along the dock toward his newly acquired asset; a ship by the name of The Nebuchanezzar. It's a fine ship, he's been told, and the largest in its class. Upon further inspection, however, it's been discovered that it is in need of some repair, which would explain how he got it at a miser's bargain. "I have a ship... Now I need a crew." He mumbled to himself as he passed by a local shipping company with sailors and privateers walking in and out of it, some carrying deeds to ships, others orders and manifests for their prospective loads. A disgruntled sailor dashed by him, nearly knocking Marius over in his mad rush to get to one of the ships that was nearly ready to set sail. After nearly an hour of walking up and down the dock and talking to various shipping companies, he decided to ask one of the crew man on the nearest pier where he could possibly find some sailors for his ship. "Check down yonder dock at 'The Dead Anchor'. It'd be a pub, mind ye, but sure ain' no better place ter find a crew than there, though they migh' be the bott'm of their tankards." Marius tossed the crewman a silver piece for his information, to which he recieved a rather enthusiastic "Much obliged". The crew man then pointed him in the direction and continued about his task of going over a manifest, to which he cursed and rummaged through a rather large pile of crates and bags. Having the information he needed, Marius made his way down the dock to "The Dead Anchor", a tavern known for its heady beer and... overenthusiastic patrons. Stopping before the door, he looked up at the sign, which consisted of the name scribbled hastily on a plank of wood and nailed above the door. "This is it, I guess..." Undaunted but a little uncertain, he opened up the door and stepped outside, standing in the door way to allow his eyes time to adjust to the low lighting...

History:

Robin was born into the Hook family. Her parents were killed at sea when she was four. So she was raised by her uncles. They trained her from then on about the sea craft, from sword fighting to avoid pirates, to navigation, to kitchen work. Robin is a little gruff on the surface, but completely loyal to her friends. She is hard working and determined to do her best.
She was supposed to become first mate on her cousin's ship, but she felt that she couldn’t work under him. He didn’t believe that she knew anything, and she refused to be treated like an idiot while in a position of power. So she ran away to sea on another vessel as a lookout. This was how she made it to France, where she is now. She is in between jobs and currently looking for work.

Robin sat at a table in the corner and watched as a new guy entered the door.

"He's going to loose his purse that way," she commented to no one. She watched him move around the tavern noting that he wasnt lowly enough to be seen here. She stood and approached him, brushing her braid back over her shoulder.

"You'd better watch your purse," she said offering him her hand to shake. "The names Robin, Robin Hook."

Marius started a little as the lady spoke to him. She had come out of nowhere. Looking to her, he smiled a little and involuntarily slid his hand down to the pommel of his sword after hearing her warning. "Thank you kindly, Ms. Hook. I shall keep it guarded," he said as he kindly shook her hand. Smiling, he touched his brow in a kind of salutary manner then took a step past before pausing. Maybe she might know anyone looking to join a ship... he thought. Turning on his heel and smiling politely, "Miss, you wouldn't happen to know if anyone here is looking to join a ship? I have just purchased a vessel and am in need of a crew," he asked kindly. I just hope they're willing to turn to piracy... he thought apprehensively, knowing that the punishment was quite severe for piracy. His eyes finally became fully adjusted to the stark lighting of the tavern and he noticed the profound lack of people. A few were sitting at the bar, and one man was passed out on a table in the back, his tankard hanging precariously from a few fingers as his hand dangled next to him. The mug dropped and he started for a moment, looking around then let his head fall back onto the table as he promptly fell back asleep.

His eyes, sharp and clear as a hawks, singled out the sleeping drunk and smiled, realizing he found the second crew member to his ship. "Maybe I'll make him quarter-master or something of the sort," he said to himself, tapping his chin as was his wont when he was thinking. Marius straightened his jacket and proceeded towards the man, weaving between the tables and nearly tripping over a pair of stout legs sticking out from beneath one of them. He stopped before the man's table and cleared his throat, announcing his presence to the man and, as a few of the people at the bar turned their heads, to the rest of the pub as well. "Umm... Excuse me sir?" There was no movement coming from the man except for the steady rise and fall of his back as he breathed. Frustrated, Marius slammed his hand onto the table, attempting to startle the man awake. It worked. The drunkard snapped awake and looked around, quickly reaching for his pistol and fumbling miserably, knocking aside his tankard that was laying on the floor. "Wha? Who there? Be gone with ye, ya slack-jawed idiot!" When he finally managed to get his bearings and pry himself from his drunken stupor, his lolling eyes managed to settle on Marius, and a mixture of frustration and irritation crossed his face as he snarled up at him. "And what the bloody hell do you want? You aint be needin' to wake me. I dun want whatever it is yer sellin'!" the man snarled without provocation, hoping to scare off Marius with slight insanity. Undaunted, Marius simply smiled and sat down, adopting his most polite smile and tone, "I have a proposition for you sir, if you'd be much obliged to accept it?" The man scratched the stubble on his chin for a moment before answering, "Tha' would depend 'n the nature of the prop'sition. I ain' 'bout ter be suckered into something foolish." The cleverness of this man somewhat caught Marius off-guard, though it did not refrain him from pressing onward. "My proposition is a job, if you're interested. I have a ship, and am in need of a crew to sail her. I will give you the position of quarter-master and..." Marius lowered his voice and leaned in, so only he and the man could hear. "A fair share of the bounty we will be bringing in, for my venture is that of a little... repossession, if you will, of certain goods and materials that travel the sea..." He leaned back into his seat again, a little smirk on his face and awaited the man's answer...

All signs of the man's former drunken stupor vanished as he realized what exactly Marius was proposing, and slowly a small, albeit devious smirk spread across his lips. "And what if I says no, eh? Thas awfully dangerous what yer be proposin. Too dangerous, some say..." the man said, a slight hint of derision and sarcasm peppered in his voice. Marius stared at the man for a moment, sizing him up, then smiled slowly, adding his own bit of play into his voice, a hint of indifferent amusement, "Then I simply find someone else and you're out of a job for a while, I wager." Leaning back, Marius props his feet up on the table top and crosses his arms behind his head, staring up at the ceiling for a moment, noticing a great many cobwebs before returning his gaze upon the man. "Hark ya drive a hard bargain mate, but I'm askin' fer 20 percent of the plunder."
"And yet you'll only get 10 percent..." said Marius all too casually.
The man stared at him for a moment and scratched his stubble, the slight grating sound was beginning to aggrivate Marius, but he dare not show is annoyance for fear of losing this not-so-hard won shipmate. With a sigh of acceptance, he leaned in and nodded his head, "Ya got a deal. Name's is Gabriel. Gabriel le Femon." Smiling and quite pleased, Marius kicked his feet off the table and leaned in to offer the man a handshake. Gabriel obliged, a sense of calm and general pleasure was displayed on his face as he shook Marius' hand. "And my name is Marius," said Marius politely. He had decided to keep his title a secret for now. Though he may have a new crewman, he wasn't foolish enough to fully reveal himself now. "Oye, so Captain Marius, if I may presume, when do we depart?" Gabriel asked, rubbing the back of his neck as he forced the rest of his weariness away. Marius sighed and leaned back again, resting his left hand on the table and tapping the top with his fingers while his right hand rested casually on the pommel of his sword. "Well, I still need to find some more people. If you could help, that would be much obliged. The ship name is The Nebuchanezzar, and she's docked at pier 7. Large galleon, can't miss it." Gabriel tilted his head as he looked up at the ceiling, deep in thought. "Well, I might know a few chaps might be lookin' fer a job on the sea. Been ruddy well dead 'round 'ere the past couple 'o months. I'll see wha' I can dig up, eh?" With that, Gabriel got and, with a touch of his brow as a haphazard salute, he walked out of the tavern, apparently in search of the prementioned men...

Robin had been watching as Marius had propositioned Gabriel. She knew that Gabriel didnt sign on with just anyone. And that this 'Captain' was much more than he seemed, and rich if she had any eye for it.

"So its underhanded deals for you," Robin said sitting in the seat next to Marius. "I'm in the market for a job. Whats your lay?" She had tied her hair into a braid over her left shoulder.

Marius started as Robin spoke to him. She always popped out of nowhere to him. "If it pleases you to know, Robin," Marius leaned in toward her, dropping his voice so only they can hear, "I'm trying to get a crew for a ship undertaking... repossessions, if you will, of certain merchandise and goods that the sea may drift our way." Marius knew that saying what he was planning outloud was noting the crime, so rewording things was necessary to fool some lesser individuals. I'm just going to have to make sure I ask the right people. One slip could cost me more than just jail time... he thought to himself as he watched Robin for a little while longer. He smiled politely and turned to look up at the ceiling again before looking around the bar absently, though he still addressed Robin when he spoke. "If you're interested, it'd be first mate for you with about 10 percent of the plunder." Marius thumbed the bottom of his hilt as turned his gaze back to her, trying to read what her response would be. A sudden commotion turned his gaze towards the bar, where two of the men sitting at it had broken out into a small argument, though it threatened to turn into a more serious fight. He perked one of his brows as he watched the men for a little bit, then turned his gaze back to Robin, deeming them not a threat to him, for the moment...

"Excuse me for one moment while I deal with that," Robin said standing and drawing her sword.

"That is enough! This is a tavern not a brawl. I wont tolerate it here." She barked. She walked up between the fighters and calm inserted herself between them. They startled as if they hadnt seen her comming.

"Sorry Miss Robin." One said stepping back and wiping blood out of his eyes.

"I wont do it again." The other said. Robin turned a death glare on both of them.

"See that you dont," she said. She turned and sheathed her rapier. The barman approached her as she headed back towards Marius. He offered her a drink in thanks. She smiled at him and said something quietly. He smiled and headed back to the bar.

"Sorry about that. I refuse to tolerate that kind of behavior in here," She said. "I am interested in your proposition. I do believe we have things in common that we could achieve. I agree to your terms under one condition. I get a hammock in the bunk just like the rest of the crew. Absolutely no special treatment. Is that acceptable to you?" She downed the drink and looked at Marius expectantly.

Marius couldn't help himself but smile. She's got some fire to her. She'll make a good first mate. He watched her settle the two brawlers without so much as lifting a finger, which he found impressive, if a bit daunting. And she'll also be able to keep the crew in check.Scratching his cheek, he peered at Robin for a moment before nodding, "It is acceptable. The ship's name is The Nebuchanezzar, docked at pier 7." Marius took to looking around the tavern again before returning his gaze back to Robin, deciding finally to size her up. "I'm looking for more potential crew, seeing as you and Gabriel are the only two people I have at the moment. If you can think of anyone else who might like to join my crew, that would be splendid," he said with a polite smile afterward. Marius scratched his cheek again, then got up, and with a curt nod, approached the bar, debating whether or not to enlist the two brawlers into his service as well. I'm going to need all of the high-spirited men I can find if I'm going to pursue this life... he thought with some bitter amusement.

'Nebuchanezzar, Pier 7' Robin thought as she walked up to the barman to pay off her tab. She kept her eyes on her new Captain. She wondered what kind of nobility he came from, because he positively reeked of money.

'Maybe I should keep an eye on him for now. I can always get to the ship before him, I know the short cuts in this city.' She thought. Deciding that it was a good idea she bought a drink and curled up in her corner of the tavern. For those that knew her well, they understood she had a job and wasnt to be bothered.

Robin smiled and slowly sipped her drink, ready for anything that may happen.

The door to the pub swung open again, and Gabriel and two twins walked in, heading straight towards Marius. "Oye, captain! I've found ye a pair o' twins tha' be lookin' fer a job!" Gabriel said in a little too loud a voice. The twins, as they were, were a Asian. Japanese from the look of them, and each carried a Katana. The twin on the right carried it on his right side, then one on the left, on his left side, as if they were mirror images of each other. "Their names be... er.... I... I think the one on the right be Shinji, and the one on the left be Omoro, but I can't be sure. They look right alike, don' they captain?" he said with an unsteady smile, unsure if he had found suitable crewman. They look no older than 18, but have the faces of men who have seen much bloodshed. They'll do perfectly. "You've done well, Gabriel," said Marius, smiling and patting the wayward drunk kindly on the arm. Gabriel smiled big in appreciation. Marius then turned to look at the twins and looked them over with a sharp eye, sizing them up. "Hmmm... Have either of you ever sailed before?"

"Hai, we have. We've sailed-" said Shinji
"-on many ships and-" said Omoro
"-fought many battles-" said Shinji
"-and have honored ourselves-" said Omoro
"-as great warriors and sailors." said Shinji.

The way the two spoke caught Marius by surprise. They were more linked than he realized. Finishing each others sentences, though a little daunting, may prove rather useful. It at least showed that they could fight with unerring skill, if it ever came to that. "Well, you're most certainly hired. Your unique skills should prove useful. Welcome aboard, Shinji and Omoro," said Marius, quite pleased.

"Thank you, it is an honor to serve you, captain," they both said together.
