Magic Materia

Magic materia are green in color, and the most common type, making them the easiest to find. Magic materia allow their user to cast magical spells, and there are twenty-one different kinds available, falling under the categories of Attack, Cure, and Indirect.

    Harnesses the speed and strength of a comet.

Command Materia

Command materia are colored yellow. When equipped, Command materia bestow upon the user extra abilities, such as those of thievery or manipulation. There are twelve different kinds of recognized Command materia.

Command Materia (YELLOW)
    Deathblow
    Allows the user to attempt making a critical hit.

    2x Cut
    Allows the user to make multiple physical attacks on a single enemy.

    Manipulate
    Allows the user to manipulate enemies.

    Mime
    Allows the user to mimic the last action made by an ally.

    Morph
    Allows the user to deal a physical attack at half damage; if the enemy is defeated by this attack, the enemy will be transformed into an item.

    Allows the user to glimpse the statistics of an enemy.

Summon Materia

Summon materia are red in color. When equipped, Summon materia allow their user to summon creatures to aide them in battle. At first, the creatures summoned will be weak, but they will strengthen over time, with practice. There are sixteen recognized kinds of Summon materia, but new variations are constantly being discovered.

Summon Materia (RED)
Alexander
Summons Alexander, a silver and black mechanical monstrosity, to deal Holy damage.

Bahamut
Summons Bahamut, the "King of All Monsters," to deal Fire damage.

Bahamut ZERO
Summons Bahamut ZERO, Bahamut's ultimate form, to deal damage.

Choco/Mog
Summons Choco/Mog, a Chocobo and Moogle duo, to deal Wind damage.

Hades
Summons Hades, who in turn deals damage and inflicts status ailments upon enemies.

Ifrit
Summons Ifrit, a menacing hellish creature, to deal Fire damage.

Kjata
Summons Kjata, a massive warthog, to deal an attack composed of all three major elements.

Knights of the Round
Summons the Knights of the Round to deal damage.

Leviathan
Summons Leviathan, the "King of the Sea," to deal Water damage.

Neo Bahamut
Summons Neo Bahamut, another of Bahamut's incarnations, to deal Fire damage.

Odin
Summons Odin, on horseback, to deal damage.

Phoenix
Summons Phoenix, the magnificent creature of legend, to deal Fire damage and cast Life 2 on allies.

Ramuh
Summons Ramuh, the ancient, wrinkled god, to deal Lightning damage.

Shiva
Summons Shiva, the beautiful goddess of ice, to deal Ice damage.

Titan
Summons Titan, the mighty god of the earth, to deal Earth damage.

Typhoon
Summons Typhoon, who in turn creatures a wind vortex, dealing damage to enemies.

Support Materia

Support materia are colored blue. On their own, Support materia are useless, but when coupled with other types of materia, they channel some of the strongest magic available. There are thirteen different kinds of Support materia.

Support Materia (BLUE)
Added Cut
Attacks simultaneously when paired materia is used.

Added Effect
Adds paired status to equipped weapon or armor.

All
Affects all targets with paired magic.

Counter
Attacks with paired Command when damage is incurred.

Elemental
Adds paired element to equipped weapon or armor.

Final Attack
Automatically uses paired materia when disabled.

HP Absorb
Absorbs HP when paired materia is used.

Magic Counter
Counters with paired Magic/Summon when damage is incurred.

MP Absorb
Absorbs MP when paired materia is used.

MP Turbo
Increases the power of paired Magic, using extra MP in the process.

Quadra Magic
Attacks with paired Magic four times at once.

Sneak Attack
Pre-emptive attack with paired materia.

Steal as Well
Steals simultaneously when paired materia is used.

Independant Materia

Independant materia are purple in color. Similar to Support materia in that they have no direct power, Independant materia often strengthen particular statuses or bestow beneficial effects. There are seventeen known types of Independant materia.

Independant Materia (PURPLE)
Chocobo Lure
Attracts chocobos.

Counter Attack
Allows the user to counter attack when damage is incurred.

Cover
Compels the user to protect allies when they are attacked.

Enemy Away
Decreases the user's chances of encountering enemies.

Enemy Lure
Increases the user's chances of encountering enemies.

EXP Plus
Allows the user to earn more experience per battle.

Gil Plus
Allows the user to earn more gil per battle.

HP <--> MP
Exchanges the levels of the user's health and magic powers.

HP Plus
Increases the user's health capacity.

Long Range
Grants the user the same attack power, even from a distance.

Luck Plus
Increases the user's luck.

Magic Plus
Increases the user's magic.

Mega All
Grants the user "All" effects on every action.

MP Plus
Increases the user's magic power capacity.

Pre-Emptive
Increases the user's chances of surprising an enemy.

Speed Plus
Increases the user's speed.

Underwater
Allows the user to breathe underwater.
