I hate to be the bubble-popper, dear follows. But hear me out.

I know who that guy is. I can't pretend to know him personally, or to know what he teaches.

But I have seen him on the discovery channel. Ah ha.

Thing is, when you're a ninja, you CANNOT advertize your art. Doing so would remove from him every right to call himself a ninja.... plus, he would have probably died during his sleep because of a poisonnous needle if we still were in feudal japan.

Hopefully, though, we're not.

But in the documentary, he compared his art to what the CIA and other federal defense groups were doing (did anyone else see the documentary?). He seemed fairly knowledgeable when it came to how ninjas operated, and he did the right thing posing as a techie to get in the room where the 'target' was. But if they were real guns, he would have been popped in the chest two or three times before he got to the target.

And what did he do to the target? Oh trust me, I was paying attention. He just tripped over him, with damage equivalent to slapping a hat off. Then he would be dead, not even sure if he killed his target.

I know the point of the game was not to hurt the poor man, but if I was asked I would have at least died with a killing nail in the target's throat.

I don't necessarily dislike the guy, but the way I was trained does not match with everyone's idea of a great ninja.

(I have my dojo sign hung out near my front door for everyone to see and no one is paying attention. That's ninja. ninja )

Excuse me dear friend. I didnt really meant to criticize, just speak my opinion is all.

This aint place for politics , I know, I dont recall starting that debate.

But my sensei trained a whole lot of militaries as well, at least a decade and a half in the army, TEACHING THEM, very famous ninja with a whole worldwide fellowship under him. and you never seen him on t.v.

This was my little point. I'm not even saying mine is better than yours. what would be the point to that?

And besides, I did not really call him a poseur.... I was just trying to express that what I saw about him came in conflict with what I know.

Oh dear, oh dear. I've never met or trained with Mr. Hayes. I feel more comfortable calling him Mr. instead of sensei for that reason.

Mr. Hayes and Mrs. Hayes were students of Hatsumi-sensei. In fact, every valid ninpou instructor/shihan/shidoshi/soke/grandmaster is in some way descended from Hatsumi-sensei and Takamatsu-sensei both. There are many reasons why other branches have split off in different directions with different names and maybe even grudges, but that doesn't make anyone of them less valid, because there was only one original source and foundation, Takamatsu-sensei. He was the last known combat ninja. And the only one known who took on a student.

JadeofShinsei didn't know if Mr. Hayes was valid, as there are so many McDojo's and self-proclaimed ninja-masters out there that do not have a ninpou lineage. So I can see the reason for his/her suspicion. People tend to distrust what is not familiar. I wouldn't trust a instructor unless they could tell me their lineage and the techniques have to be familiar. At a minimum. Unless, I already knew who they were. Phil Legare seminar in San Diego next month! Woohoo!

I hope no one stays mad at each other. There are so very few of us keeping the ancient ways alive, it would be terrible if we didn't continue to share with each other.

I'm quite jealous, I've always wanted to meet Hayes. I have his book "The Ninja and Their Secret Fighting Art".

Thank you so very much, shiranui-san!! I did not expect anyone to defend me for I have not insulted anyone here.

(its just strange that kikkaku would defend against things I have said about a stranger.)

I dont think that everything requires explanations ; some things are best left unknown. One of these things is how could my sensei, or his own, or any canadian ninja (caucasian that is) be related to these Hatsumi-sensei and Takamatsu-sensei gentlemen?? Another wonder.

But in all humility - my sensei has been entitled Ninpo. and he`s been for quite a time. I am pretty sure he is the only one in Canada, maybe even in the entire americas (unless you can indeed show me other wise) to have this honorific title.

I know that Mr. Hayes is the only american that has been ranked shidoshi. I understand it must be an honor, but it only means to me that he is one dedicated man.

Genius? Maybe but then again, theres a genius in everyone. I mean, the Inosantos, the Gracies, all of them, pioneers, champions and everything. Still, there are some Gracie boys I dont like, but still I respect them.

but you said something I have to react to: I'm not affiliated with Hatsumi-sensei and Takamatsu-sensei, for I am purely canadian. I am ninpo nidan and never had anything to do with the japanese.

Do you know about the CNJJBBF? Maybe you do.... do you know if they are related with Ninpos of old? (for I dont think they are.)

So......

Is it okay not to like a "genius"? Even though respect prevails?

And is it a disgraceful thing to be a ninpo when you never even met anyone remotely looking japanese?

Do you absolutely have to be able to run with the ribbon and jump over doors ( i mean have the complete hardcore training) to be deemed worthy of being a ninja?

There was no conflict. Just a misunderstanding.

i tried my best to stay out of this.....but here i go. ((cringe))

there are fake ninjutsu schools everywhere, and mr. haye's is the only valid one (decending from the line of hatsumi and takamatsu) in america.

i talked to my teacher about this, and he said confidently that this perticular type of ninjutsu has the most clear history and can be traced farthest back with no interuption than any other branch. hatsumi is the last grandmaster of ninjutsu to us. thats why i train at that school, because it derives from that line and all coreect ninjutsu that derives form it is legitimate.

i beleive it is true.

it's like church, we all have our preferances and bleive other churches are BS (if your ignorant enough) but you think your church is right. so thats the church you go to. thats the deal with this dojo. i beleive it is the most accurate and eliable, so i train there.

be aware i'm just saying this about ninjutsu, not any other martial art, just this branch of ninjutsu.

the whole japanese thing? ok. if stephen hayes wasn't worthy, why would he be the first easterner AND the senior student of teh grandmaster?

the whole "ninja" thing. there is no particular time when you are called a "ninja" officially. it's a japanese name for somone who is sneaky, quick minded, practices ninjutsu, and tricky. it's like being a "gangster" there is o particular time when you are officially a gangster.

now i'm sure of this because i take ninjutsu and japanese.
