Welcome New Member!

This is the Profile Review thread, where your character profile will be looked over before being added to the profile threads.

Be sure to read the rules and guidelines thoroughly, as this could mean the difference between being approved and having to remake your whole profile!

How to make a profile.

Many of you are already seasoned RPers, and thus will know how to create a character profile already. But if you're a first-timer, or if you just don't know what to add, it'd be a good idea to read the following. Each term will be accompanied by a brief descriptor, and a more in-depth description will follow below.

Gaioh Profile Skeleton

Username: Your Gaiaonline username.
Name: The name of your RP character.
Age: Your character's age
Gender: Male or female
Element: Your character's chakra element
Rank: Your character's rank
Clan: Your character's clan
Bio: Your character's history
Personality: How does your character behave?
Appearance: what does your character look like?
Jutsu: A couple jutsu your character knows.

Detailed Analysis

Username: If you have more than one Gaiaonline account, name only the one you are using to create and RP the character. Omit other usernames unless you will be using more than one account for the same RPC.

Name: While a Japanese name is the most common choice due to the guild's anime-based setting, any name in any language is acceptable, so long as there are no numbers.

Age: Your character will invariably be either Human or Kitsune, (see optional profile details below) and both races age at the same rate. Thus, a character cannot be a hundred and fifty years old, let alone a thousand or more. Only trees live that long, and you can't be a tree.

Gender: Your character is either male or female. Genderless characters are not accepted, under the same rule that states your character must be human/kitsune.

Element: Your character's primary chakra element, either Fire, Wind, Lightning, Earth, or Water. It's really, really hard to learn jutsus of a different element.

Rank: Your character's rank WILL BE GENIN when you first start. We hold regular ranking tournaments to advance the ranks of those whose skill level is adequate.

Clan: Your character may be a member of one of the four clans of Gaioh.
Akuma, Ichijin, Ketushai, and Seisatsu are all acceptable entries for this field. Each has its own unique bloodline ability, and with the exception of Seisatsu (which requires a brief screening process) you may join any Clan essentially for free. Any made-up clans or series bloodlines put here will result in your profile being disapproved pending the edit of this field.
Having no clan affiliations is an acceptable choice.

Bio: Your character's background should be short and easy to read. It should contain a history of any major life events that occured before your character joined the Gaioh Ninja clan. Please do not state that your character killed his/her entire family, or assassinated a Kage, or did anything else that would be pretty much illegal/impossible for an academy level human being to acheive. Don't rip off backstories from anime characters if you can help it, a lot of the crew get... bitey.. about the lack of creativity.

Personality: This is a brief description of how your character behaves, as well as his/her general outlook on life. Dark, brooding, antisocial Sasuke Uchiha ripoff personalities do not do well here, so while it's not technically against the rules to make one, it'd be unwise to do so. 'Plays well with others' is a very good thing to have (and is ultimately more fun to RP).

Appearance: This should be either a very short description, or, much more preferably, a picture of your character. Please for the love of god, LINK LARGE IMAGES! Massive page-stretching pictures piss the crew off.

Jutsu: Please list a couple jutsu that your character knows. Your character is assumed to know certain basic academy-level techniques, like the Transformation Jutsu, the basic Clone Jutsu, the Substitution Jutsu, and so on, so don't mention those. Just describe a few jutsu that might be considered your character's "signature moves". Remember, you're just a Genin, so nothing too powerful. Please refrain from ripping off canon abilities.

Accepting a Profile

Once the feilds stated in the above post have been entered, Submit the finished product as a post in this thread. Our staff will see to your profile at their earliest convenience. If this is inconvenient, a friendly nudge to an active crew member is allowed, but don't spam acceptance requests to every mod in the guild.

If an area of your profile needs to be reviewed or edited, don't fear. Our crew will be happy to assist you in any corrections you should happen to need, and your profile should be acceptable in almost no time. If you follow the Guidelines set out in this thread, no complications should arise.

Additional Notes

Play Well With Others: The single most common backstory submitted for approval is "My character's (family/village/little dog, too) was (murdered/tortured/burned alive/robbed blind) in front of him by (ninjas/bandits/soldiers), and (his/her) only desire is revenge and/or to train hard to become the most powerful ninja ever". The single most common personality submitted for approval is "Cold, dark, aloof, cynical, and mean, and only cares about fighting". This sort of profile will get you rejected, no questions asked. Why? Because Gaioh isn't all about fighting. Trust me on this. You're a Genin, it's going to be years before you're going to scare any of the higher-ups with how incredibly badass you are, and in the meantime, it pays to make friends. I mean, what else are you going to do besides chat with other people?

Originality is Good: The more interesting or unique your character is, the better the chances of your profile being approved. Cohesive "themes" are particularly smiled upon, like an Earth elemental ninja that grew up in a mining town, for example.

By contrast, the fastest way to get your profile rejected is to rip off a canon character. This includes canon characters from things that aren't Naruto. We're just as likely to reject you for ripping off Gaara as we are to reject you for ripping off Sephiroth.

This even extends to ripping off canon abilities, especially bloodline powers. Even if you're not specifically ripping off any member of the Hyuuga Clan, we're still probably going to reject you if you can use Byakugan.

Even simple cliches make us uneasy. "Tall, dark, and mysterious, wielding a scythe" might get you rejected out of hand. "Salt-of-the-Earth Farmer wielding a scythe", on the other hand, could be really interesting to see.

Power Level: It's not over nine thousand. You're a Genin, act it. We're a little lenient about this, insofar as you don't have to pull a Sakura and just stand there with a Kunai for a couple hundred episodes. If you say your character can shoot a fireball a yard or two in diameter, that's fine. If you say your character can incinerate a city block with a single jutsu, you need to go back to the drawing board.

The Golden Rule: Anything that improves the quality of the RP as a whole is encouraged. So don't let any of the above rules stifle your creativity. If you can make a sufficiently compelling case backed up by a detailed and interesting backstory, any of the above restrictions can be lifted with a moderator's approval. Well, most of them, anyway. You're still starting as a Genin.

Don't wanna play a Human or a Kitsune? If it's roughly humanoid in size, shape, personality, and power level, and it fits the setting, you can probably ask to play as it. Tanuuki and Nekomata have about as much basis in Japanese mythology as Kitsune, and even an Elf or a Dwarf wouldn't be too much of a stretch given their roots in Celtic and Norse mythology. Just don't ask to play an android (too Sci-Fi) or a demon (too powerful); of course, the case could be made for a golem (artificial life form animated by chakra) or a tiefling (humanoid distantly descended from demons).

The five basic chakra elements not really doing it for you? As long as you still only have one primary chakra element, one element's about as good as any other. Maybe your character's mother was a Yuki-Onna, and as a result, your character uses Ice Chakra as their primary element. Not too much of a stretch, really, and your character's lineage offers some interesting opportunities to RP a distaste for fire and warm places.
