“Man Made God” by In Flames blares as DeMarcus Jones comes down to the ring. His opponent for tonight is Jered James, a young man of about nineteen wearing a pair of black tights and a Matt Shanahan t-shirt. DJ slides into the ring and removes his robe calmly, waiting for the bell to ring. Just as the red starts the match he rushes James with a running elbow to the face. He locks the man in a German suplex and snaps him back to the mat with authority. DJ’s fingers are still locked as he hit’s James with another German, this time slamming him into the turnbuckle behind him. As third German is hit, but this one is as traditional as a Sunday school as DJ bridges the move into an easy pinfall victory. Despite the fact that the match is officially over, DJ lifts James to his feet and sets him up for the Seattle Rain. He hit’s the move while standing directly in front of the ropes, sending the Shanahan fan over the top and unto the ground below.
DJ motions for a mic and a nervous stagehand quickly delivers.
“Let me tell you a story. When the first official roster of CAW was released, I felt a jolt of excitement because one Matt Shanahan was on the roster. You see, I respected Shanahan. I’d seen his work in other federations and I knew what he was capable of. And having him as a fellow worker meant that I could finally see up and close and personal what Matt Shanahan is capable of. And to be honest, so far I’ve been severely disappointed.
The large section of “Punks” boo loudly after this comment, and DJ responds as if they had said nothing,
“You see, when Preston Ryan came out here and offered him a shot at the US title, he did the most cowardly thing I’ve seen in a long time; he attacked a defenseless man while his back was turned and insulted him and his promotion. Instead of taking the opportunity to prove that he’s worth the hype and build up, he calls himself a “God” and leaves Mr. Ryan beaten and battered. But you know Mr. Shanahan, in the end, you are no God. If anything, you’re a Man Made God, promoted and built by these brainwashed fans to believe that you are something wonderful and great, when in actuality you’re a just a cult of personality with an inflated ego that is poisoning this promotion and poisoning this business. And while I normally stand clear of the kind of High School drama Matt Shanahan brings, I couldn’t sit idly by while these fans and even the boys in the back started to believe this hype and became polluted by this false idol. And since no one else in the locker rooms seems to think it’s their problem and since no one wants to do anything about this, I’ll take it upon myself cleanse professional wrestling of the virus that is Matthew Shanahan.
Man Made God plays again as DJ gathers his robe and stoically makes his way to the back while the Punks erupted in “Shan-a-han” chants and pelted him with insults and profanities, all of which were ignored by DJ as he headed to the locker room.
