Namoff has been re-signed. A formal announcement will be made, later on.

General Manager, Dave Kasper talks about the team's plans:
*Plans to participate in the Charleston Battery tournament in March.
*Is in negotiations with Honduran forward Walter Martinez and, if a deal is worked out, he would come on loan from Marathon. A final determination might take a few weeks.
*Has not offered a new contract to Colombian defender Gonzalo Martinez and will make a final decision soon whether to seek his return.
*Is in discussions with a few foreign defenders and plans to sign one.
*Will monitor oft-injured veteran Ben Olsen in preseason training and see where things stand later in camp.
*Is close to renewing a loan deal with a club in Ghana to retain forward Francis Doe.
*Has exercised the option on midfielder Joe Vide's contract and will include him on the 20-man senior roster.
*Plans to have three goalkeepers in camp (Louis Crayton, Zach Wells and James Thorpe) as well as a possible trialist and a draftee, if the club selects one Thursday.
*Has not ruled out trading the No. 6 or 7 overall picks, but is probably going to end up using both selections.
*Does not plan to bring back midfielder Rod Dyachenko, who wanted to pursue opportunities overseas.
*Midfielders Domenic Mediate and Ryan Miller will be at training camp in an effort to earn senior roster spots.
*Has been in contact with midfielder Andrew Jacobson, last year's draft pick who signed in France, but that he continues to explore European opportunities.

i didn't realize the Doe was a loan. Its a good thing that they're extending it. he's been doing pretty well here.

How DCU's roster is shaping up:
GOALKEEPERS (2): Louis Crayton, Zach Wells.
DEFENDERS (4): Bryan Namoff, Devon McTavish, Marc Burch, Greg Janicki.
MIDFIELDERS (7): Marcelo Gallardo, Clyde Simms, Ivan Guerrero, Fred, Ben Olsen, Joe Vide, Santino Quaranta.
FORWARDS (4): Jaime Moreno, Francis Doe, Luciano Emilio, Thabiso Khumalo.

SEEKING A CONTRACT: Craig Thompson, Mike Zaher, Ryan Cordeiro, James Thorpe, Ryan Miller, Pat Carroll, Domenic Mediate, Quavas Kirk, Ibrahim Koroma.
IN LIMBO: Gonzalo Martinez.
POSSIBLE SIGNINGS: Walter Martinez, unknown foreign defender, various trialists.
DRAFT PICKS: Two in the first round, two in the second, one in the third.

My commentary
*Crayton will probably be the starter for the team. Hopefully, unlike last season, the back-up, which look to be Wells, will compete for the starting role.
*Loved what I saw from Greg Janicki. From the games I saw him play in, he's a sound defender; he's rarely out of position, and makes good heads up plays.
*Namoff is one of the hardest working players on the team. Not too often do I see him make stupid plays, or take an idiotic foul. I'm very glad he was re-signed.
*Please, Please, PLEASE get rid of Gallardo. Don't get me wrong, he's a great player, with a lot of talent; but in my honest opinion, he does not fit in well with the team. He didn't meet my (and most of the DCU fans) expectations of what a DP slot player should be. And him being prone to injury didn't help, either.

From the little i saw of him, I liked the speed he brings. I saw flashes of his scoring touch, but never got to fully appreciate it. Hopefully, this season he shows that killer instinct and score many goals.

it was draft day, today. Here are DCU's picks:

First Round
6. Maryland defender Rodney Wallace (Generation Adidas, salary cap exempt, left after sophomore year, speed on left flank, Rockville native, Bullis graduate)
7. UCSB forward Chris Pontius (25 goals the past two seaasons, 6 feet, 170 pounds; signed with the league)

Second Round:
- Loyola, Md. goalkeeper Milos Kocic
- Wake Forest defender Lyle Adams

Don't which round DCU took him from, but the team also drafted Brandon Barklage, Saint Louis, midfielder

Feb. 10 vs. Columbus in Bradenton, Fla.
March 7 vs. Real Salt Lake in Charleston, S.C.
March 11 vs. Toronto in Charleston

I highly doubt it will be nationally televised. If it will be broadcasted, it will most likely be shown on the local channel here in D.C. which is CSN.

Training camp has began for the men in black.

Ben Olsen is "going to give it a go" this upcoming season. His ankle has not recovered the way it was wanted/needed, but nevertheless, the rugged midfielder will press it and attempt to play through the season with a bum ankle.

Ben Olsen
"I am cautiously optimistic about maybe getting through a season. The verdict on the ankle seems to be: 'It is what it is.' It's not going to get better than it is now. Knowing that helps me go ahead and push and do what I can. There will be a lot of maybe managing the pain throughout the season and maybe I am not going to be a guy that starts or plays. I have no idea how this is going to play out. It's very day to day with me, as it has been for a year. I've been active [the last couple weeks]. I've gotten through every day. Some days I look like someone shot me, but I am getting through it. Just keep going, keep pushing and see if I can't get through preseason, and if I can get through preseason, go from there. ... I am trying not to get too excited about playing and be part of the team right now."

"Today was the first day I was playing soccer against pros at a high level. So today was a positive step. Saying that, talk to me tomorrow morning. This thing from day to day can change. It's kind of exhausting in a lot of ways. You play and you feel, 'Oh man, today I feel great.' And then you wake up and it's not easy getting up the stairs. That is some of the challenges I have. ... When I have had the tough days the last couple weeks, I just keep going because I want to see and press this thing and I wanted to make sure that if I do come back, I don't want to waste D.C. United's time."

"I just didn't know [about coming back] but how can you give this up? How can you not try and get another year out of it and come to practice with these guys? I am not ready to step into that next career, whatever it may be. I still feel like I have a lot to give."

-Gallardo will join the team at training camp in a week to 10 days. Other than recovering from the sports hernia surgery and knee injury he got/endured through last season, he is also recovering from an adductor surgery he got this past December.
-Jaime Moreno is also recovering from a sports hernia and knee surgeries. He will join the team when they start to play on the grass fields, in Bradenton.
-Fred is trying to get a visa renewed, and will hopefully be at training camp by Monday.
-Zach Wells is recovering from foot surgery and should be at training camp in about 4 weeks.
-Discussions with Marathon for a loan for Honduran forward, Walter Martinez, have gone kind of iffy, due to the demands of the team.
-Gonzalo Martinez is still around. The organization plans to look at their other players, before deciding whether they'll resign the defender, or not. Other MLS teams have shown interest in trading for him, but no formal offers, yet. There's also a possibility he will go back to Columbia.
-Lyle Adams (DCU's 2nd round draft pick) is overseas, right now, exploring his European opportunities. The team had expected Adams to be with them during training camp, but apprently the kid had a "change of heart". The team, though, is still optimistic about him playing for them, this season.
-Loyola College goalkeeper, Milos Kocic, has "possible opportunites overseas", but according to Goff, the team is confident the keeper wants to play with the team.
-Former Los Angeles defender, Kyle Veris is on trial with the team, and will most likely travel with them to Florida.
-Due to the new rules for the roster, Craig Thompson, Quavas Kirk, Pat Carroll and Ryan Cordeiro were all not invited to training camp.
-Ibrahim Koroma will not be back with the team, due to the African club who owns his rights wanting a fee.

(All infromation came from Washington Post's "Soccer Insider", Steve Goff)
