Meri and I have been discussing a way to tidy up the messy, cluttered appearance of our guild forum, and with the new option of adding subforums to guilds, that way has been found and implemented.

We considered deleting old threads, but hated the idea of removing all those old little bits of history from the guild. Even threads that haven't been popular in over a year contain meaningful posts from members past and present. With the Archives subforum, we can still go back and relive our fun times without having our main forum full of age-old threads.

There are several reasons why these threads are being locked as well as moved:

1) We want to preserve the threads in their 'original' condition as much as possible.
2) No one likes necroed threads, and this will prevent newer members who are perhaps unsure of how the Archives subforum works from replying to a year-old post.
3) If at all possible, we'd like to organise the Archives subforum according to the date threads have been last posted in, and if people could post in them any old time, it would confuse the order.

Sorry for any inconvenience involved.

Over the next few hours (or days, depending on how long it takes to sift through things, and how much spare time Meri and I have), threads that have not been posted in in over a month will be locked and moved to the Archives. Also moved to the archives will be 'closed' threads, by which I mean ones that have fulfilled their purpose or leave no room for further discussion.

Some things to note:

1) The Archives will always be growing. Old announcements, stickies, and threads will be moved there once they become irrelevant or ignored. If you see that a thread is missing that was there before, it's probably been moved to the Archives subforum.

2) If you scan the Archives and find a thread that you think might have been interesting and you regret that you weren't around for its time of popularity, feel free to start a new version of it in our main forum (after, of course, checking to see if such a thread doesn't already exist there).

3) We can all do our part to help our guild stay neat and tidy. Carefully look around the forum before you start a new thread to see if your idea is already here. If you start a new thread, please intend to stick around and help it grow. If you think you'll just make one or two posts and then abandon it, it's best not to start the thread to begin with, but rather just post in a thread that already exists.

4) Unfortunately, it may become necessary for the moderators and captains to lock or delete repeat or irrelevant threads. Please don't take it as a personal insult, but rather as the crew doing their jobs to make the guild a better place for everyone. If your thread has been locked or deleted and you wish to ask why or lodge a complaint, feel free to PM Meri or Kirjava and we'll do what we can to explain our decision, or rethink it if the situation calls.

This is just the first step in reworking the AFG. Over the next few months, other changes will be made, but for now, archiving is enough to be getting on with.

Thank you for your support, and if you have any comments or questions about this decision, please post them here and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.
