as for the number of series there are two seasons of the T.V. series (GITS: SAC, and GITS: SAC 2nd gig), three movies (Ghost in the Shell, Ghost in the Shell: Innocence, and Ghost in the Shell: Solid State Society), as well as the original manga upon all of this is based (GITS by Masamune Shirow, and it's sequel Ghost in the Shell 2: Man/Machine Interface0. there is also a novelization called Ghost in the Shell 1.5: Human-Error Proccessor. (and if you count them, 3 video games, on PSX,PS2, and PSP)

Yes, as others have said: the series has two seasons: GitS:SAC and GitS:SAC:2nd GiG. After the two seasons, there is a movie, GitS:SAC:Solid State Society, which I felt was a little bit of a let down after the ending of 2nd GiG, matching the beginning of the first volume of the maga as it did. The movies (being Ghost in the Shell and Ghost in the Shell: Innocence) are in a different continuity. And as we all know: the whole lot is really pretty. A real work of art, from the animation, to the scripting to the story to the voicing... Absolutely wonderful.

Human Error processor is a manga not a novelization. It doesn't have the major in it, and I think it's supposed to go in between the other two (which is why it is 1.5). There are three novels based on GITS SAC, but they are original stories, not seen in the show.
