I like comedy and ecchi. Well, maybe not outright ecchi, as long as there is some sort of sexuality. Nice art is really really important too.

Romance with a touch of sci-fi or fantasy would be my fave. Gender-benders are also really good.

I like something with a little angst to it. I can also appreciate a yuri where the characters aren't just two people living on their own; they've got relatives. I also appreciate a good horror, or a gender-bender.

I like a yuri with good character and relationship development. Sadly those are hard to find in the fanfic world since the new fad seems to be tailored to the ecchi side. And, of course, there must be comedy. Can't say awkward love story without comedy.

When you can tell that the person crafted it, not just wrote it. That's what makes any story good. Not just Yuri.

A mix for me: ecchi, comedy and/or Sci Fi

Blood and Stone
When you can tell that the person crafted it, not just wrote it. That's what makes any story good. Not just Yuri.

I'll have to agree with Blood and Stone. It's not so much when a story is written for commercialism or just to sell--or when it's just pointless porn.

Nothing against porn, just porn-without-plot isn't my idea of good yuri. If adult material manages to capture real feelings and interaction, as in stories like Maka-Maka, or evoke strong emotions when I read it, that, I think, makes it good.

A well-written plot and good character development is pretty much vital to any yuri; Kannazuki no Miko wasn't good because of all the action and random mechas in it, it was good because of the emotion and interactions between the characters which made it absolutely heartbreaking.

As far as my own preferences, I adore romantic yuri and shoujo-ai. As long as it has romance in it, I'll have a shot of liking it. I prefer happier series since tragic lesbianism is prevalent to the point that it's almost sickening and more than a little irritating (I'm not someone who likes to be sad), and comedy for the same reason. But good, interesting plot and well-crafter characters are best.

I oprefer really romantic stuff, and shows/manga that go in depth on one character in the relationships real feelings for another, and try to focus on both sides of the relationship, not just one point of view.

I really like action in yuri series, like in Ga Rei Zero or Burst Angel/Bakuretsu Tenshi. It just makes it fun to watch. But what's really important is the yuri development and storyline, the characters and stuff. Action and badass stuff just helps to make it more interesting, but the core of the appeal is usually shoujo ai. I can watch tons of other series to get my action fix, you know?

Its not just the plot, and the genre that make the story good. There also has to be good character development, along with appealing art. Well for me to be interested in reading the manga anyways. Although I do enjoy a good romance with a mixture of fantasy, and comedy. He,he and a little ecchi never hurt anyone wink

I love a yuri that has some comedy in it, but a cute romance all the way through it, I think Strawberry Panic is the best yuri out there^_^
