I'm curious. We are all writers in here, so what inspires you to write? What do you do to get in the mood to write your different characters? What do you use? Do you do different things for each character?

What inspires me to write in general could be anything: a song, a painting, an online quiz, an outfit, a conversation I overhear at a restaurant...honestly, anything. razz
What inspires me for this RP specifically? Mostly, reading/writing HP fan fics. When I found out that I had to play Severus for a while (I've put him in fan fics of my own before, and I fancy myself good at writing out his actions, but I've never tried to do his point of view.) I went and read a bunch of Sev/Lily stories to get me in the proper mindset.
I've contemplated Remus' life and written his perspective in fan fics so many times already that he comes extremely easily to me. Out of everyone that I'm playing, he's the simplest for me to write.
For Emmeline, I get inspired by thinkng of myself when I'm in a really, really foul mood. rofl On a daily basis, I'm much friendlier and more optimistic than she is, however, if I'm feeling moody because of a bad day then I'm cynical and want the whole world to bug off just like she does. xd
Sapphire is probably the most difficult for me, and she's my OC! eek She's a challenge for me to write because she's almost nothing like me. I made her value loyalty above all things the way that I do, but that's basically it. Oh, and she's fond of history and astronomy like me, but all-in-all she's only an average student, and I'm very above average. 3nodding Also, I'm not at all trusting or love-obsessed, or afraid to speak my opinion. Sapphire is. I try to stay upbeat, but I'm certainly not as perky or forgiving as she is. Girls like her in real life tend to annoy me (Her kindness and fidelity make her endearing, but she's still irritating.) which is why I made her like that in the first place. I figure that if I can understand the brains of lovey-dovey girls better, then they won't bother me so much when I meet them in person. If there's a way for me to get along with people in real life better, I ought to give it a shot, right?
I guess you could say that Sapphire was inspired by people that I've encountered in real life. exclaim I just made her more moral than most giggly girls because Remus deserves that. heart

What inspires me? Anything. A song or a quote from a movie are big ones. On my iPod, I can turn on almost any song and I have at least 3 to 4 fanfic ideas or just regular story ideas.
My best friend is the most talented writer I know so she inspires me a lot. (: Plus, she gives me all the best ideas. (We have challenges for each other to write.)
For RPing?
Well I have read so many LJ fanfics/ maruader fics, it isn't even funny. Plus, I have my own views of James. I think he catches himself in the wrong situations and he isn't that jerky. Plus, he and my brother are a lot alike so I use them as examples of type of things guys like and don't like to do.
McGonagall is so fun to play. I reread the books, read fanfics about her and just study the way some of my teachers act. Thus, I just kind of flow with her.
Cayden Harlow is me in a nutshell. The name is my favorite name and her last name, Murray, is the name of a family I know in RL. smile

I am inspired by many things, although I do different things to get into the mindset of each of my characters.
For Lily, the best thing to get me into her mindset is music. It's one reason I made her musically inclined. My favorite musical group for her is Superchick. In fact, it's the band that I used to write my first song-fic. The songs just fit. "Stand in the Rain" "Beauty from Pain" and "Bowling Ball" are all Superchick songs that will get me through Lily's sixth year.
For Peter, I actually write while eating. I make myself some cheese and crackers to eat, or get a candy bar, or nibble on something or other. Then I think of all the things that can go wrong in the given situation. And I make Murphy's law come true through his actions.
For Justin, the best thing I've found so far is looking at HP fanart. He has the same coloring as Neville, so the Neville/Luna pictures make me happy. I've shared quite a few of them with Umi, and she's found some for me, because if Neville is Justin, then Luna is Ariel. ^_^ My favorite right now is "We're Still Here" by ereya. Found on deviantArt:
See, isn't it cute? Justin should so get the girl. heehee. I also like the Neville/Ginny friendship pictures, because they can be interpreted by me as Justin and Lily.
The easiest for me to write is probably Lily. I know her the best and it's usually easy to predict her instinctive reactions. Justin is really a mix of me and my brothers, and so he thinks a lot like me. Peter is very high-strung and dramatic, and not too bright, and he's the most interesting for me to write.

Wow, that's interesting! Both of you made your OCs like yourselves, and mine is barely anything like me at all! eek xd
Aw, Matelia, you're right; that picture is so sweet! 4laugh *saves it onto computer* It makes me giggle that you get inspired to write Peter by eating. lol I'm glad he's the most interesting for you to write because I find your posts of him amusing to read. whee
Suze, there's a McG fan fic you should definitely read on FanFiction.Net. It's called Just a Random Tuesday, and it is well-written and HILARIOUS!

I find that James is not really like me and McG has aspects of my personality, but she's really different so I needed someone similar to me. biggrin
Oh my gosh Matelia, that picture is like amazing. I looked at it and fell in love. biggrin Ahh.. I love fanart.

Oh, I just found another wonderful Justin picture. Again, found on DeviantArt: Young Neville by harbek.  I think I'm going to edit Justin's profile just to include this picture. wow. It's truly Justin in Herbology. Speaking of Justin, the way his character thinks and acts is like a combination of me and my brothers. He may not be like me at all, but he is most similar to me in his thought patterns. Also, if anyone is having trouble getting into the head of their boy characters, I recommend finding and reading the comic strip "Calvin and Hobbes." I've been told several times over by various guys I know that the comic strip is one of the best insights into a boy's way of thinking.

I talk with my sister a lot about the stuff we did as kids for the current scenes I've done for Regulus. I'm the older sister but portraying the younger one means I don't have to worry about getting away with things with the parents, but the sibling. It's not all that new for me since I'm the middle child, but then me and my brother were never as bad as me and Umi have been to oneanother. It is fun though, figuring out just how we thought about the reasoning behind our own actions and each others.
