Fighting Fefnir

Perfect Winner

User Image
Name: Fefnir Kamashiro Shihouin

Aliases/ Nicknames: Affectionately, he’s Feffy or Fef, and was formerly reputed as “The Flame’s Heir”

Age: Appears to be 20, but that’s not indicative of his advanced age, somewhere in the range of 600 years

Seat: Vaizard Leader

Height: 6’ 0”

Weight: 127 lbs

Personality: Cold, unfeeling, and unwilling to expose himself emotionally, Fefnir feels right at home in his exile. There are few people who bother him on earth when he wants to be left alone, and those people usually have one hell of a search in store. Generally, though, he’s good with animals (especially dogs) and can deal with people as he needs to. His naturally pointed and disdainful way of talking to people simply says what needs to be said in the most direct and accurate way possible.

Theme Song(s): [Anger]Fight Like This- Decyfer Down [Normal]The Red Priest- Joe Stump/The Fury of Speed- Matthew Mills [Contemplative]Keeping the Blade- Coheed And Cambria

Physical Description: Emaciated, but still fairly muscular, especially in the legs, Fefnir seems to have been sick for an undisclosed time. This does not, however, keep him from being a force to be reckoned with in the fighting arena. Fefnir's eyes are crimson, but are strange in that they have no pupils, causing him to appear to look through, not at, a person. Often people think he is blind, and the truth is that his vision is very bad, but he uses reiatsu to bolster it most of the time and strong glasses to correct it before bed. Most likely, this is an unexpected after effect caused by the use of Ocular Shukuchi (see below). His normal clothing consists of two simple looks: black cargo pants, red sleeved black tee-shirt, red Adidas A3’s and black cargo pants, red and black striped tee-shirt, and red Adidas A3’s. In addition to those, he has a pair of blue goggles that remind him of his time as a captain. He normally tends to go barefoot unless he is going to fight, because footwear is necessary to prevent Fefnir's skin from being ripped off by a combination of speed and reiatsu. Fefnir has long, crimson hair that reaches to the small of his back. He never does anything to style it, but it seems to stay perpetually straight regardless.

Zanpokuto: Kaji Hitokage (Flame Soul)
Release Phrase (Shikai): "Spark, Kaji Hitokage!"
Release Phrase (Bankai): "Preside, Kaji Hitokage!"

Sealed Form Description: The blade appears to be a long, angular piece of shrapnel. It’s deadly sharp, even on its rougher looking parts, though. The color is red, almost like deep rust, and the hilt has the appearance of a pair of wings, one demonic and the other angelic. The sheath is larger than most in order to house such a blade, and is also red.
Spirit Description: Kaji is a phoenix, with a burning red body and accents of gold at the tips of his wings and tail. Personality wise, he's very haughty and feels he is superior to those around him. His eyes are full of disdain for those he sees as unworthy (including Fefnir, funny as it is), and refers to a person by their gender (Boy, Girl, Woman, etc.) instead of their name out of a lack of respect.

Shikai Description: After the release phrase is spoken, the kanji "flame" burns into the base of the blade while it also becomes a more streamlined katana. A medium-length white cloth springs forth like a spark from the base of the hilt, and an intense heat radiates from the whole of the sword. As a manifestation of malicious intent, the zanpokuto has a raven’s wing as a hand guard on the hilt.

Shikai Abilities: The Blade is intensely hot, and its natural temperature superheats the air around it. So, even if a strike misses, there’s still a chance that the opponent will be burned by the hot air currents. The cloth absorbs Fefnir's (and only his) reiatsu and stores it over the course of battle, turning the color of blood when full. This can then be released in one large, wave-like strike. The cloth can also be detached once full to restore the reiatsu if needed.

Bankai Description: Fefnir's katana changes into a crimson dagger about the length of his forearm. This blade is curved outward, and is similar to a cleaver with the bottom edge extending like a talon over the grip, representing his zanpokuto spirit, Kaji. The grip is beveled to accommodate Fefnir's fingers easily, as well as having tight leather covering for a better grip. The blade still has the Kanji for flame on it, this time where the talon-like section meets the rest of the blade. The excess reiatsu left over from forming such a small bankai is funneled into Fefnir's body, manifesting itself as a fire around Fefnir's legs and as a pair of flaming wings on his back.

Bankai Abilities: The burning effect remains, and is intensified even further, creating second and third degree burns around the initial cut as well as cauterizing the wound, or even burning just by being in the vicinity of the burning hot metal. The reiatsu storage is completely gone, but Fefnir's initial speed is increased, acting as a substitute for True Shukuchi and easily matching its speed. The difference is, this speed runs off the fire, and will eventually run out with use. This is also very taxing on the body and difficult to maintain. When the fire is gone, Fefnir reverts to his standard Shikai release's capabilities, save for the replacement of his katana with the dagger. It is possible, but not advisable, for him to continue to fight after this.

Resurrection: When released, Fefnir's entire body becomes the same as his monstrous hollow form, a large beast similar in design to a jungle cat. His speed remains unaffected by this anthropomorphic change, and is actually more efficient in energy usage than his human form. In this state, he can't effectively control his speed levels, so whatever Shukuchi step he's at when he releases will be maintained. His eyes will uncontrollably leak reiatsu as well, providing the effects of his Ocular Shukuchi through his Hollow reiatsu, making it pale blue instead of the usual red. His mask, which has panels that leak cold air, now has large black vent-like structures running the length of his body constantly emitting cold air, chilling the atmosphere. The longer he's in this form, the colder it gets, and the colder it gets, the better he can move and fight. Long claws tip each toe and are just perfect for ripping enemies open as he wishes.

Kidou: Basically none. Fefnir feels that kido are for people that can’t fight properly.
Bakudo: N/A
Hado: N/A
Other: N/A

Vizard Mask: Coming soon! My amazingly talented friend is making the pic for me.
Vizard Abilities: Bala: (虚弾(バラ), Bara; Spanish for "bullet") is an Espada alternative to the cero. The technique hardens the user's spiritual pressure and fires it like a bullet from their fist. It is seriously weaker than a normal cero, it moves about twenty times faster and can be fired at a much higher rate, but the damage is much the same.

Cero: (虚閃(セロ), Sero; Spanish for "zero") are high-powered energy blasts that can be fired from various body parts, such as mouth, tongue, horns, hand or fingers. Only Menos, Arrancar, and the Vizards have so far been shown to use cero attacks, and it appears that stronger entities can use it more efficiently.

Garganta: (黒腔(ガルガンタ), Garuganta; Spanish for "throat") is how Arrancar and Menos class hollows move to and from Hueco Mundo. Tousen Kaname and Urahara Kisuke have also demonstrated the ability to use the technique. It literally tears open the dimensional fabric separating the worlds, revealing a tunnel of whirling, torrential energy that must be focused and solidified to create a discernible pathway.

Hierro: (鋼皮(イエロ), Hiero; Spanish for "iron") refers to the hardened skin of the Arrancar, which is a result of their compressed spiritual power. While their skin is strong enough to block even released Zanpakutou bare-handed, it is by no means impenetrable. Stronger Arrancar have proportionally stronger skin.

Pesquisa: (探査回路(ペスキス), Pesukisa; Spanish for "inquiry") is the Arrancar equivalent of the Shinigami ability to sense Spiritual Pressure. It functions similar to sonar.

Sonído: (響転(ソニード), Sonīdo; Spanish for "sound") is the Arrancar equivalent of the Shinigami flash steps and the Quincy Hirenkyaku; it allows the user to travel at incredibly high speeds for short distances. Use of Sonído is punctuated by a brief static sound, in contrast to the "swish" sound used for flash steps.

Skills:Flame Blast- Once full, the cloth on Kaji's hilt turns blood red, and literally drips reiatsu. At this point, Fefnir can release all that reiatsu in a large, wave like strike. This attack is extremely unwieldy, and isn't used often for the sole fact that it may backfire and do nothing. A second option is to detatch the cloth and regain the reiatsu stored within.

Flame Surge- By pushing his reiatsu into his released blade, the hot aura can be projected toward a target, visible only as a fast moving ripple of air. Depending on the release level, this can cause either second or third degree burns. The aura itself is about the size of a basketball and squishes to wrap around the opponent after contact.

Shukuchi (Reduced Earth) - Fefnir gathers reiatsu at his feet, wrapping it around them like a second shoe, allowing him extreme speed and maneuverability. Fefnir is unable to shunpo because of the conditioning he underwent to prepare his body to use this move. ((Author's note: The only difference between Shukuchi and Shunpo is that Shukuchi uses extremely rapid steps and shunpo is closer to longer strides, and that the reiatsu is wrapped around in Shukuchi, and is focused on the sole of the foot in shunpo))
There are 4 levels of speed, measured in steps:
3 steps- Slowest of the steps, Fefnir's body is almost transparent. Foot shaped divots appear where he steps, and the reiatsu is clearly visible.
2 steps- Second slowest of the steps, Fefnir is almost invisible and only the gleam of his zanpokuto can be easily seen. Rounded places where the ground has shattered mark every step. No reiatsu can be seen.
1 step- Second fastest of the steps, Fefnir is completely invisible to the untrained eye. Skilled swordsmen can still read his attacks. The shattered places in the ground are wider and deeper, but are hard to distinguish from the 2 step indentations. No reiatsu is visible.
True Shukuchi- The fastest he can possibly travel, Fefnir is gone before the opponent can realize it. It is nearly impossible to see, much less predict or parry, any attack launched. There are no marks left after Fefnir's steps.

Ocular Shukuchi- Fefnir forces reiatsu into his eyes in order to improve his vision and reaction speed. This can be maintained for an indefinite period, but the strain is intense, so Fefnir limits his use of this ability to as little time as possible. If used for too long, temporary or permanent blindness may occur soon afterward.
There are 3 levels of strength, measured in steps:
2 step Ocular- A miniscule amount of reiatsu is used to make Fefnir's eyes more active. This is characterized by the appearance of pupils in Fefnir's eyes. Usually the first thing done in any fight, activation is a subconscious reaction to stress. There is no after effect.
1 step Ocular- Large amounts of reiatsu are forced into the now opened pupils, greatly increasing reaction times and vision is selectively telescopic (Fefnir can focus on a certain point within a 30 yard radius or see all of it at once). If used for longer than an hour, temporary blindness occurs, one hour for every three minutes of time over the limit.
True Ocular Shukuchi- unbelievable amounts of reiatsu are funneled into Fefnir's eyes, making the enemy almost seem to be in slow motion. A deadly one-two combo when used in conjunction with True Shukuchi. For every 12 seconds of use, Fefnir loses a minute of sight towards the end of his life.

Shuntensatsu (Instant Heaven Kill) - Fefnir strikes rapidly with the lethal combination of True Shukuchi and True Ocular Shukuchi to utterly destroy his enemy. Designed to kill, this move is extremely rarely used, and Fefnir's leg muscles are immediately torn, making further battle impossible. It’s an all-or-nothing, last ditch attack.

Biography

[This part is an excerpt from an educational video called "Know Your Captains" and is in black and white. The quality is poor, and there are several skips in the film itself]

Whoosh! What may have just looked like a pop in the film was actually a captain going by! Fefnir Kamashiro-Shihouin is known by all as the Flame's Heir, and is the fastest shinigami in all of the Soul Society. One story even says he can kill hollows while carrying on a conversation with someone and they shinigami not realize he's moving. As captain of Squad 9, he stands for peace and justice for all people, and under his watchful guidance we're free to live our lives safely.

[The reel ends, Fefnir's narration begins]

"Oh, the irony. I made it safe for them to live, and this is how they repay me. I may well be the fastest person in the soul society, but there will be others that the title will be placed upon. Hah... they pretended like I was some sort of hero one moment, and the next, boom! Exile. It's... a bit of a long story, but I've got nothing but time these days anyway..."

"So here's how it all started, quite a long time ago. I can't even remember exactly how long is was anymore, but we're talking the span of decades. Back when I was freshly buried, hardly more than a month after my mortal form was burned away, I was already an outsider, hardly worth a passing glance to anyone. I was simply another rat in the streets to them, so like the rat I was, I would scurry away and hide from them for fear of a second death, but there was never any way to escape. They always found me... found me and beat me until I was absolutely senseless, all of my being covered with blood and bruises and horrible numbness and stillness. I think that was the worst part: that dreadful, awful, stifling stillness. I could never stand idleness, so to have it forced on me was a fate worse than I could imagine. It seemed as if the men took pleasure in attacking my legs particularly, perhaps because I always tried to run from them... But who wouldn't? I tried to be courageous and stand up to them, but my body and mind disagreed, and I would flee no matter how much I wished to fight back, time and time again."

"It was during this time that I learned to escape my persecution. Now, I had always liked to meditate, because it took the stillness after the beating and made it productive by focusing the mind, will, and energy, but this time, my usual thoughts were interrupted by a distasteful voice, full of haughtiness and scorn. 'Do you wish to escape?' it asked simply, deeply, almost divinely, resonating inside my chest with exactly what I wanted. An escape... That was my only response to what seemed to be an offer that would never be fulfilled. It occurred to me that I may just be dreaming shortly after that. 'This is no dream, insolent cur,' the voice added in response to that thought, 'Follow my instructions, and you will truly find your escape,' That was the first of many times I spoke to Kaji in those days, though I wasn't aware of who he was at the time."

"Over the course of days, weeks, months, even years, I honed myself through the instruction of the voice. Every morning, I began my day with a run lasting until I could no longer continue. At the beginning, I'd run for a few minutes before slipping into a jog, but that habit was quickly broken when my route was changed. See, after a few slow jogs, I started having to run past the place where those thugs stayed, so they would chase after me, their favorite whipping boy, with weapons brandished. Nothing motivates quite like the threat of death. At the start, they caught me quickly enough that I could walk home in whatever sorry state they left me, but I always left a marker, a simple rock or something unimpressive to mark the distance I'd gotten that day. Slowly but surely, the distance began to grow, and finally, after a very long time, I could flee from those pursuers until they grew tired, either of the chase or physically. But I didn't stop there. I continued running and running and running until it was days, full days, before I had to stop. While this was hard on my body, as sleep deprivation wreaks havoc on the flesh, this intensive and constant training made me, unquestionably the best runner in all of the outer districts, and probably even faster than some shinigami. What came next, though, could only have been a gift from a higher power."

"As I had found myself doing more and more physically, so too did I work mentally. I learned of chakrams and how to balance them from the voice, and, as before, I immediately set myself to work on it. This mental training came quicker due to my adept mind and predisposition toward existential quandaries, theological virtue, and spiritual calmness. The eight chakrams aligned, and I felt a rush of energies that were new, and yet so familiar, like a hidden power of my own... This was the first time I felt my own reiatsu. There was some, but not a lot of the almost fluid red energy swirling around my legs, impossible to control as it began seeping back into my body like a wave of warmth. The voice broke my amazement at the phenomenon with its condescending tone. 'You are now closer to freedom than ever before, Boy. Follow my instructions, and I will truly allow your escape,' By this time, with my running lasting days, I'd become almost an insomniac, not requiring sleep for four to seven days, so I continued to meditate, feeling the warmth again as I did."

"The next morning, my running instructions changed. 'Run with balanced chakrams,' the voice demanded, 'Find your center without sitting and meditating by focusing on the earth chakram, the essential for this skill,' And so, I did. I stood there for a moment and cleared my mind, finding my earth chakram more distant than usual, and gave it a mental push to align it with the other seven. It was a little more difficult, but not so strenuous that I couldn't accomplish the task. Then, the same thing as before happened, but with a slight difference: instead of just flying out of my and being useless, the energy was drawn to my feet, wrapping them in visible crimson reiatsu. 'Good' The voice said with an air of boredom, 'Now do your regular run and see how long it takes you,' One step foreward, and boom! I was at the edge of town, some thirty miles away from my starting point. Normally, it would have taken me thirty to forty minutes to cover that distance with my already incredible speed, but had only taken seconds this time. Naturally, I was confused, and naturally, the voice clarified. 'Shukuchi, reduced earth. Using reiatsu, that red energy, you've enhanced yourself by passing your body's limits and utilizing the explosive energy of each stride. For every normal step you would have taken, you just took somewhere around ten. At your current skill level, you're very inefficient, but your previous training made a jump to the second fastest speed possible with Shukuchi possible. A little practice and you'll be ready to move up in the world and become a worthy of using me...' I... was a little dumbfounded by this. Was he... was he referring to becoming a shinigami? And, using him... my zanpokuto! I guess this was the truly the beginning of the end for me."

"After pulling a few moves that seemed to be little more than party tricks with my newly found speed, I got myself accepted to the Shinigami Academy by impressing the guy running it. I stole s**t from him when he wasn't looking, and he said I was amazing and let me in. Three years later, I'm a full fledged shinigami, probably the first to attain shikai out of my whole class. This was majorly because I have always maintained a habit of communing with Kaji every day, and he eventually came to trust me enough to tell me his name. This was one of the definitive factors in my getting a seat in Squad 2 under Yukimaru, since most didn't have that level of release yet. Soon after, I advanced to the rank of Vice-Captain due to Rhia's promotion to Squad 4 captain. Yuki and I formed a strange friendship during that time, and she would have been the one person I'd hesitate to kill, though Iu Hana Kuchiki would also fall under that category as my best friend and the one person who may understand the pain of exile as a Vaizard, even if his was only temporary. Anyway, after a long time under Yuki, I became Squad 9 captain, and the place began to thrive with the help of my Vice-Captain Xeion Kuchiki (no relation to Iu) and my adopted daughter Unaharu. Shortly after I adopted her, her grandmother Yomiko Shihouin invited me to become part of their clan as well, as her adopted son."

"So, now to recent history, or at least more recent. While meditating as I always did, I fell into my zanpokuto's world, a vast desert with a canyon in the center. In that place, I fought myself for control over what life I had. The hollow wasn't even a monster. He spoke civilly and even offered me tea before the battle, in fact. He seemed to simply be a converse to myself, blue in body and soul as opposed to my red. I was able to defeat the inner me, but little did I know I had hollowfied on the outside. When the white skin broke away and the mask came off, I was met with a sight that made even my battle-weary eyes fill with tears. The entirety of the squad was decimated, each and every member dead and the buildings leveled. There were just bodies littering the ground, the lifeless forms of my loved ones. Can you imagine the horror I felt knowing I was responsible for this carnage? I had no choice but to flee the soul society. It wasn't until a little afterward, as they examined video footage that they found out about my transformation that they formally exiled me. I can't even hope to be forgiven now, and I wouldn't be, anyway. As a Vaizard, they'd either imprison or kill me if I returned for any reason. At least out here, I have some peace and quiet to enjoy with my dog, Enzeru. She's a beautiful thing, half husky and half wolf, and she can keep up with me by feeding on my reiatsu to perform a more efficient lower level Shukuchi."

"But yeah, there you go. That's the full story you won't hear anywhere else, because the shinigami will never even allude to the existence of Vaizard. If you ever need to find me, don't. I'll find you."

( Fefnir was married to Amie Koigokoro, the Squad 4 captain's mother who bears the same name, but repressed the memory of her death at his hands. The only recollection he has of her are a few scenes from before they were married. Accordingly, he wouldn't be able to tell his daughter from his wife at first. )

An addendum. A messure of the speed Fefnir can attain. This assumes that shunpo is a speed of 24-26 Miles Per Second.

Shukuchi:

3 step is 15 MPS
2 step is 21 MPS
1 step is 26 MPS
True is 31 MPS

Bankai is 33 MPS
Bankai plus Hollowfied is 35 MPS

Ressurection is 34-40 MPS, depending on the speed Fefnir is at when he enters the state. Standing still is 34 MPS, and 40 is True Shukuchi -OR- Bankai -OR- Bankai and Hollowfied.
