oh so Extravagant...

Did you pick your username for a specific reason? Is there a story behind it? Or do you just like the way it sounds?

I just picked mine because I thought it sounded nifty to be completely honest

Darkness is Purity

PostPosted: Sun Mar 01, 2009 5:54 pm

My username came about thanks to a friend of mine. I had just started gaia, and my orginal name sucked, so she changed it to this one. It fits because I actually am in the best moods at night, or while walking in the darkness. So thus Darkness is purity. Or rather my take on it.

My name is french for "Phantom of Music". I believe french is a beautiful language, no i do not speak it. Though I do dabble in it.

Most of the time, unless with a group, i write my rituals in music. so instead of my voice singing to the earth and all her glory, and to the great Goddess, my soul does through my flute.

"Phantom" or 'Fantome' came from one year for Samhain I painted my body a very true and pale white (not easy nor comfortable i do not recommend it) and wore my white dress robes. Later that night a the home of a very good friend I did a cleansing with my flute in hand. Well, myself, my fiancee, and my friend all forgot about the trick or treaters. They all saw me dressed as i was, playing for the Goddess my plea for this home's blessing in my melody, and they all stared in wonder. The local paper did an article the next day on the "Phantom Flutist". No one had known it was me, but those invovled in my immeadiate life. Every now and again we all giggle as we hear people in cafe's or children on the street speaking of the "Phantom Flutist" some call me the "Gypsy of song" and one poet wrote a piece on "Phantom of Music". Voila, my name. we have made it a tradition every year for me to go through the agony of white body paint, which has come down inly to my face with thanks of a whtie spandex body suit, and I roam around our nieghborhood, giving out treats, like honey cakes, to children. Herbal remedies to elderly and sickly who often write letters to my friend asking her to ask the "phantom" to come thier way with this or that. And others simply enjoy my melodies.

We have heard rumors that the smae poet whose work hangs on my wall, is writing a play on the "phantom" helping the community. I have no ego about it, and if i am ill there is another phantom who takes my place as a "phantom violinist". We just love that our community actually accepts who we are, whether they believe us ghosts or not.

So there you have it my name has a lovely back story to it, and yes a long one sorry for that.

Well, to be honest, my username means the illusion one believes while being deceived. It also pertains to one of my favorite video games. It's called Dot Hack. Innis the mirage of deceit, in the game, is................An entity. I can't really think of another way of explaining it without having to explain the whole game, which is excedingly complicated.

Well, my old username was Egrotatio, which means 'sickness' in Latin. Everybody called me Egro, so I shortened it.

GilAskan

PostPosted: Sat Mar 07, 2009 3:09 pm

My name comes from a fictional character from a long-running fictional story I've been writing. It's nothing I ever will publish, I suspect, it's more of a hobby that I return to every so often to help whet my creativity.

Gil'Askan is a fictional character central to the plot. His first name is taken from the name of a bell, which was named after a "singing" animal. Gil, in his native language, is the word for "robin", or for closely related birds. His second name very literally means "of the City of Aska", given to him because he is in the service of the city and it's people. He is of a fictional race known as the Crei, and he is one of 36 "High Guard" of the City of Aska, each High Guard named for one of the 36 bells which are equidistant on the wall surrounding the city. Each bell, as suggested above, is named after a "singing" animal- robin, canary, accipiter, linnet, stonechat, whinchat, nightingale, etc.

My username. Hm...

Well, to put it bluntly it is the same as my pen name. I like the word "Ara" because it somewhat reminds me of "aura", but generally I found it a simple and plain name with a dash of elegance, so its enough for me. As for "Dertah", I felt like I needed a middle name, so I tried to look for words that related to me in one way or another. If one was to look at the word in reverse, it spells "hatred", which is reminiscent of personal reasons. AS for Dainte, I wanted something that sounded formal and resonated an air of maturity, or that I generally am serious about my statements.

I'm not stiff though, but most of the time I look at situations and respond to them seriously.

'Twas the cloest I could get to broken_jester, which is my user name on other forum boards and it's my full nickname. I figured that joker and jester are pretty similar so I could get away with it.

I get called broken jester because I'm not all that funny, but I can still make people smile.
