[.The Izli.]
"Prosperous and plentiful, all other herds shall tremble from underneathe our hooves, or be crushed in a sea of vengeful horn."
-Herd Founder Izli-
For generations the Izli have been the most powerful herd of buffalo in the western region of North America, enjoying a well deserved respect from all the other herds that surround them. What is it exactly that has caused this particular herd to grow in both number and reputation? Its a combination of a few things that will be described in the following posts. Some major points include: a practiced religion that keep moral up, migration techniques to avoid The Hunt by the flat feets, and strong bloodlines that can be traced back to Izli- the founder of the herd so many long years before. Since his passing, the Izli has had a dozen or so generations to carry on the traditions set up by him and his first herd.
[.The Firsts.]
The firsts refers to the orginal members of Dominant Bull Izli's herd. The most noted are the elites, called HookHorns (Protectors-offensive, bulls) and SteadyHooves (Guards-defeansive, cows). They were among the fiercest of fighters and sharpest of horns, out to get the best possible life for their friends and family that they could manage to wrestle away from anyone and everyone. They were ruthless, merciless, and sometimes even cruel in their doings to better their herd life. Among these elite bulls, and even some cows that shared in their relentless aggression, happened to be Izli himself. He was a perliless leader when facing outside threats such as challenging bulls or hunting flat feets, but within his herd he was seen as a kind and compassionate individual doing what he must to protect them all.
Underneathe this tretcherous outter shell, Izli had a brillant mind; although, it was often clouded by personal gain for himself and his herd. It was Izli who decided the herd should migrate north a month before any buffalo ever had the thought of doing so, before the flat feet prepared for the seasonal Hunt. As he led the herd away he'd bellow an offering to all the herds they passed, 'giving up' their traditional grazing lands to those who wished to take it. Naturally they jumped at the chance to get the sweetest grasses. These buffalo herds were the ones that would take the place of the Izli when it came to the flat feets and their Hunt for buffalo meat. A sacrifice Izli was more than willing to make.
If the herd was to prosper, Izli would not pass up an oppertunity to keep them protected... no matter the level of cruelty. Upon their return to their herd lands after The Hunt had taken place, he would drive off any surviving buffalo with his band of HookHorns and SteadyHooves; reclaiming their lands.
Izli, to an outsider of the herd, is a figure in history that is still mostly feared which leaves the current Izli herd in a state of high respect. To a member of the herd who had been born into its ranks, Izli is a hero. A great and wonderful hero who succeeded in giving them all a great life.
