Guardian of the Forest
An original Modern/Fantasy RP

Backstory:
Rumors abound across the world of strange, ethereal, unageing beings who guard over the natural world at the behest of Mother Nature herself. Many no longer believe in these stories, but some still do. These guardians have always lived in solitude, but in ancient times they were at peace with the humans who lived around them. While always taught not to interfere with the ways of humans, the guardians were able to interact with them and teach them how to live off the land without destroying it.

But as Man grew to populate more of the earth they used more of it's resources. Forests were torn down, fields paved over, rivers dammed and dried up, and the guardians of each began to die.

In the few remaining untamed wildernesses of the world the ancient guardians still exist. They live in complete solitude, cut off from others of their kind and unwilling to interact with the human world. From time to time they will take pity on lost travelers, leading them back to their own world or protecting them from dangers in the wilds. But for the most part they remain unseen and unknown.

Plot:
A young hiker (this is your character) becomes lost in the woods and injures himself as he attempts to find his way back to the trail. He is found this way by the forest's guardian spirit, Tohopka, who takes pity on the injured man and brings him back to his dwelling. It is only because he feels that this man has a respect for the forest that he takes care of the hiker and nurses him back to help.

When the hiker is healed Tohopka leads him back to a main trail where he will be found by someone who will be able to bring him back to civilization. The spirit never expects to see the young man again, but the hiker has developed a fondness for this land, perhaps because of one of its inhabitants.

Back in civilization there is talk of tearing down a good portion of the forest to put in a new development. Upon hearing this the hiker returns to the forest to warn its guardian. But there is nothing that Tohopka can do. He is unable to leave the lands he is attached to. It is up to the young hiker to do whatever he can to preserve this land because its destruction would mean Tohopka's death.

Notes:
I have never been the sort to have such a detailed plot laid out for an RP I want to do, so I hope this is not too confusing and appealing to someone.
The plot is very flexible and I have tried to leave it open enough for you to add your own creativity. There will be no requirements for your character save that he has an appreciation for nature.

Name: Tohopka
Age: Unknown
Gender: Male
Race: Forest Spirit/Stag

Personality: It seems at times as though Tohopka has no personality at all. His face and demeanor will be completely blank. This is because he has lost his trust in most humans after watching so many of his fellows die at their hands. However, deep down, he has hopes that the mortals will once again learn to appreciate the lands that they call home. It is this inner hope that causes him to take pity on anyone who gets lost in his woods.

As all of his kind he has a deep love for nature. He feels more kinship with the animals and plants that live in the forest than with any human, though they are more similar to him in shape. He eats an almost purely vegetarian diet, with meat added for protein only when the animal dies from injury or at the hands of a hunter who did not retrieve his kill.

History: Tohopka lives in one of the few remaining untamed wildernesses in the world. Deep in North American forests he once lived in harmony with the animals, with the natives, and with others of his own kind. When the white men came they pushed the natives from their homelands, tore down the trees to build their homes, dammed the rivers to supply water for their crops and themselves. Tohopka watched as others of his kind died under such rape of their resources. It frightened him and broke his trust in mankind. Now he does not associate with man unless he feels it necessary, as in the case of a stranded or injured hiker.

Appearance: Tohopka's lower legs are like those of a deer. Perhaps those who have studied classical mythology would call him a faun, but he is like those creatures only in this trait. His skin is lightly tanned from spending all day in the out of doors and is lined with strange swirling designs that may be tattoos or may be natural markings. From his head sprout a pair of antlers not unlike those of a mature stag. His deep brown hair is untrimmed and hangs in untamed waves down to his shoulder blades. His eyes are a strange moss green with horizontal pupils like those of his hoofed kin. Tohopka wears only natural clothes made from animal hide or plant fiber, and sometimes nothing at all.

It was a pleasant day. Not too hot despite being the height of summer, and not too cold despite the high altitude. But despite the warmth there were clouds brewing on the horizon. It was probably going to rain that night, and most of the hikers and campers who had come to explore the protected wilderness were trying to get off the mountain as quickly as possible. The animals, too, were making their way back to their shelters to wait out the summer storm.

There was one inhabitant of the forest who did not run away from the clouds, though. The strange being stood amidst the trees as the dappled sunlight slowly dimmed under the clouds. It would be a warm rain, and he could already tell that it would not be a serious storm. Moss green eyes stared up through the branches at the patches of blue sky that were slowly becoming covered by gray.

He was a strange creature, one that no human had set eyes on for hundreds of years. His skin was the color of tree bark and covered in strange markings that could have been paint, tattoos, or may have been natural. From amidst unruly dark hair emerged a pair of antlers. Not as large or impressive as a stags, but antlers none the less. From the knee down his legs were covered in long fur and ended in cloven hooves not unlike those of a deer. His clothing was made from scraps of hide and woven grass, though often he went without.

But with the storm coming he did not want to risk being seen by a human in such a state. The mortal creatures were shy enough around him as it was. This was the first storm of the season, however, and it was likely a few of the ones who visited his home would, in their haste to escape the rain, wander off the marked paths. He did not like to see them get lost, so always made an effort to lead them back.
