Okay, revamping the InfoSource sticky, realized it will be a lot tougher without the old one to pick through and glean good sites from.
Open to suggestions, this is just the current design I've been batting around. If you have a site to add, please include what category it would fall under, and a comment about it!
Oh yeah, it's in pseudo-BBCode at the moment. (Pseudo-pseudo-code?)
//Commented version. // //Formatting is as follows: //[title] will be made into a link //[[title]] will be bolded/colored as a topic heading //text will be plain text //>except text preceded by the greater-than symbol, which will be a link to the named section. // //Document Structure: // //Introduction // //ToC, with a short description of, and links to, sections. // //Individual sections, containing the actual offsite links. // //Credits
Information Resources
InfoSources exists for the sole purpose of providing a portal to all offsite knowledge-bases, starting with several broad-base general purpose sites, then split by category.
[[Table of Contents]]
General Sites A list of search-engines, general knowledge sites, and broad-spectrum technology resources.
Programming //Going to need help with this one, I am by no means anything more than a mediocre programmer. This is roughly arranged into interpreted, compiled, and assembled languages. >Interpreted >Compiled >Assembled
Networking //Again, will need help. Networking is split roughly into local area networks, or self-contained networks, and networking across the internet. >Local >Internet
Hardware //Third time is the charm, yet more help needed. Hardware is a broad range of review, news, and modifications sites, from simple HOWTOs on installing components, to soldering and overclocking >Reviews >News >HOWTOs
Software This is a clearinghouse for all things soft and ware-ish. Reviews, freeware sites, news sites. >Reviews >Freeware >News
Security //BPrice, expect -lots- of questions about this. Organization of categories will probably change too. Security links to resources to help improve your system security. This is -not- how to crack security. >Basic Steps >Intermediate >Advanced Protection
Social-Legal // If anyone has any suggestions please add them, I have far too few sites in mind. Need lots of input from members in countries other than the U.S. Social-Legal links to resources dealing with both the impacts and regulation of technology in society. >United States Law >European Union Law >Australian Law //Add more here.
[[General Sites]]
These sites should be a first stop for any search.
[Google]
-The- Search Engine. So popular, ubiquitous, and useful, that it has graduated to a verb.
[Wikipedia]
A massive user-run repository of factual information, often contains incredibly detailed amounts of information on a topic.
[Other Search Engines] //Sub-category.
Google is good, but cross checking your search takes only a moment, and will often yield excellent results.
[Fast] //Will comment [Teoma] //Will comment [Lycos] //Will comment

I remember way way back when I had a network protocol guide that got into the sticky.. Price had one too, along with Kiro. Maybe condense those three to your network portion?

InfoSources is for off-site information, if I can find the networking guides again when/if I get around to the Big List of Guides, I'll be sure to include it.
