Harou walked into the arena and looked about. He had been resting a lot lately and working on some of his new abilities, it was time to show off a bit and maybe give it a chance. Harou looked about waiting for his opponent to arrive. "Hmm. . .an earth user Jounin. Hopefully I'll learn somethin' new for my own jutsu's here. Shuji. . .should be a lovely fight."

Shuji strolled casually into the arena, his hands in his pockets. He was decked out in his usual attire. He had on a black t-shirt that was worn under his flak jacket, and a pair of black shorts. Looking around for a moment, he took in the arena setting before giving his attention to his opponent. He hadn't fought this chuunin before, but he seemed very promising.

"Hello Harou," Shuji said politely, going as far as to offer a small bow. "I hope you're ready. I haven't done this in a while, so forgive me if I'm a bit rusty." With that said, Shuji lowered himself into a comfortable fighting stance, pulling his hands from his pockets. He wasn't the greatest fighter, but at the very least this match would be a good warm-up before he got into anything a little more strenuous.

Harou had his reverse blade kodachi at his side as usual, although he was not preparing to use it, he had dragged it along just in case. It's served it's purpose more than a weapon more than once. He slid his right foot back and took up an open hand guard, protecting his centerline, his left hand at about chin level palm facing down and his right hand at chest level, palm facing up. He bowed his head lightly in respect to initiate that he was ready and spoke in a calm and very collected tone.

"Ready when you are, senpai."

Of course Harou wasn't going to make the first move. That would have been a very bad idea on his part. However, it wasn't any better to have Shuji go first, mostly because there wasn't any plan of attack just yet. Instead, Shuji moved his right hand behind his back and pulled out a kunai from his weapons pouch. He figured that it'd be best to get the ball rolling sooner rather than later. There would be plenty of time to talk later.

In a fluid movement, Shuji's right hand reappeared from behind his back, the kunai sailing through the air toward Harou's chest. Once the knife was on it's way, Shuji started with his own attack. Following behind the kunai, the young Jounin brought his hands together, forming the ram seal. Using the seal to focus his chakra, he sent a burst toward his feet, giving him a great deal of speed. Had he wanted to, he could have easily passed the kunai and been on top of Harou in a matter of seconds. As he ran, he started to move toward the left, making a half-circle as he came toward Harou. He wasn't about to let this Chuunin off that easy.

"Here I come," he shouted as he approached.

Harou dropped low to the ground on one knee and at the same time drew a kunai of his own, with a little trick in store for the Jounin. The kunai just passed over his head. By the time he looked back at Shuji he was gone. He looked around and noticed Shuji to his side. "A flanking maneuver? He must of used a chakra boost to his feet cause I didn't see him move. Then again I had my sights on avoiding the kunai. . no matter." He stayed in a crouched position, the kunai in his right hand, awaiting the time to strike.

As Shuji came at him, Harou sprung up on an angle, his path perpendicular to Shuji's own, and threw the kunai directly at Shuji, but he put a spin on it so it seemed to twirl as it's point headed straight for where Shuji would be. Harou landed safely on the ground a few feet off of Shuji's path and drew another kunai, placing it in his mouth firmly so he still had use of his hands.

The kunai came as a slight surprise to the Jounin, as he had figured that Harou would be more concerned with trying to avoid the knife that had been thrown at him. There wasn't much time to react, since Shuji had been pretty close to closing the distance before the knife was thrown. Reacting as quickly as he was able to at the speed he was going, Shuji shifted himself to the left again, the knife missing his right arm by mere inches. Everything went better than expected, but it showed that this wasn't going to be the easiest fight.

Still on the move, Shuji continued to make a circle around Harou as he tried to finally close the distance. He was going to engage him in hand-to-hand combat first, and then worry about any jutsu that he might utilize later. Chakra conservation was key, something that a lot of the younger and even the older shinobi didn't understand, and it was something that Shuji had been working on for quite some time.

"That's it. . . .perfect!" The moment the kunai passed Shuji was Harou's time to react. This was his plan, soon to show Shuji the true reason he put the kunai in his mouth and why he put the spin on his first kunai. The first kunai thrown was preset with a replacement jutsu. The moment it passed Shuji, Harou placed his hands together, and him and the kunai switched places. Now, Harou had replaced the spinning kunai and vice versa. Harou used his spinning momentum to launched the other kunai at a much faster rate at Shuji's back. After the kunai left his hand he shouldered the ground as his body fell, taking the impact. At the speed he was going though, he had to let himself roll backward. Placing his hands above his shoulders and flowing with the momentum, he flipped himself backwards onto his feet, and slid a little as he came to a stop. He didn't hesitate to prepare himself once more for an attack. He took out another kunai, this time with a powerful bomb tag attached to it that he concealed in his grasp but would be revealed as it left his hand.

"Seven kunai left. . . .and this is my only set up for this strategy. . .I have to conserve as much chakra as possible too though. . .I can't let this fight go to waste after all my training. I'll save hand to hand kumite for later, I'll keep my distance for now to get a baring on how he moves. . "

"Chakra blacksmith, Ketushai. . "He whispered softly as he drew a line from the bomb tag. Harou pulled something else from his pouch and attached it to the end of the chakra line. He was prepared for his next attack.

Harou had gotten the drop on Shuji, that much was certain. The young jounin had been far too reckless coming into this fight, not taking the time to think out any good strategies. Then again, this was a learning experience for the both of them. They had never faced one another in combat, which left a lot in the air as to what could occur throughout the whole affair. Now it was time for Shuji to show off a bit.

Once Harou replaced himself with the kunai knife, Shuji knew that there was nothing he could do to prevent the attack from behind. However, he hadn't figured that Harou would throw a kunai. His ears barely picked up the sound of the kunai sailing toward him, the sound of his feet pounding against the ground filling his ears more than anything else. Not having much time to react, Shuji brought his hands together forming the ram seal followed by the horse, ox, and snake seals. Quickly gathering chakra, Shuji darted to the right, the kunai again sailing past him as he activated the jutsu that he had been prepping.

A cloud of dust kicked up around Shuji as he activated the Shunshin no Jutsu (Body Flicker Technique). Shuji moved quickly, pushing himself just enough to get near Harou but not on top of him. As the dust settled, it revealed that Shuji had vanished from sight. When the young jounin did reappear, he was behind Harou and to the left, his hands now locked together in the ram seal. He kept an eye on Harou as he gathered chakra once more.

A cloud of smoke had appeared where Shuji was and Harou waited with anticipation. Once the cloud cleared Shuji was gone. No reason for Harou to linger on that now as to how, but time to figure out where the Jounin was. Harou looked about, and out of the corner of his eye a figure appeared behind him. Quick to assume it was Shuji, Harou spun one hundred and eighty degrees and lowered his level to a crouch tossing the kunai in the figures direction. However, it was not aimed at Shuji directly. Harou aimed it to the left, which is the right of Shuji's body and slightly down, so it would stab into the ground next to him. Using the momentum of his spin he released the other object that was attached to the other end of the chakra string; a baseball sized metallic ball. The kunai given it's chance to embed itself in the dirt now acted as a center point for the ball attached. Unless Shuji moved, he'd be ensnared in the chakra string and the paperbomb attached to the kunai would explode next to him.

Harou had managed to keep Shuji on the defensive for most of the fight, which left Shuji with very few options. Once Harou threw the kunai, Shuji was on the move. Heading directly for the chuunin, Shuji's right hand fell behind his back as he grabbed a few smoke bombs from his weapons pouch. Hearing the kunai collide with the ground, Shuji noticed the metallic ball that had been attached. As it swung around, Shuji jumped and cleared the chakra string that was attached to the kunai and the ball.

As his feet left the ground, Shuji threw the smoke bombs. However, instead of using them to conceal his movements, he threw them toward Harou. Once they hit the ground, the smoke started. Unless Harou moved from his current position, he'd be engulfed in smoke, making it difficult to see Shuji and what he did next.

The jump he had made was more of a hop, giving him just enough air to get over the string while allowing him to continue moving forward. Once his feet hit the ground, he drew another kunai and headed toward where Harou had been standing. By now the smoke would have been at its thickest, meaning that neither of them would be able to see the other without some difficulty. However, Shuji was a trained sound shinobi, and when it came to low visibility, he could always count on his ears to lead the way. It was now his turn to be on the attack, but first he needed to drive Harou away from the smoke.

Harou had noticed Shuji's quick reaction time. Once the smoke grew thick, Harou came up with a perfect plan. Why move? Once Harou leaves the cloud, Shuji will notice him first giving him the advantage. He was a Jounin, after all, so he probably had the upper hand in speed against Harou.

"I guess I don't have a choice but to resort to chakra. . ."

"Binshou sabure no jutsu. . " Harou placed his hands in the snake then tiger seal and slammed his hands on the ground. The area in front of him of about five feet by five feet became quicksand. Harou placed a bomb tag right in front of him next to the trap he had put out for the Jounin. Harou took a leap back and drew his sakabato-kodachi.

Shuji's pace started to slow once he noticed that Harou had not left the cloud of smoke. Shaking his head, he veered off to the right and tossed the kunai into the ground. The young Chuunin may have thought that he had activated a trap for the Jounin, but in all reality he had just left himself in the dark with no way to protect himself. With a grin, Shuji brought his hands together once more and started to gather chakra.

"Doton: Tenma Tekase (Earth Release: Demon Shackles)," Shuji spoke softly, coming to a stop roughly ten yards from the cloud of smoke as it started to dissipate. His hands came into contact with the earth, but nothing happened. This is what Shuji wanted. This jutsu was more of a trap, and once Harou activated it, everything would play out. With the jutsu activated, Shuji drew yet another kunai from his weapons pouch and waited for the Chuunin to reveal himself. It would take long for Harou to notice that Shuji wasn't going to come into the smoke now.

Harou waited for a bit. "Where the hell is he. . . . ." Harou closed his eyes and listened carefully. He heard nothing at all. "Damn it! He must of caught on. . ." Harou used his crouching position to spring backward into the air. Coming out of the cloud he landed and saw Shuji fifteen to twenty feet from him. Harou didn't utter a word. He just looked intently, not with anger, but curiosity. Harou still had his kodachi in hand. He waited for Shuji to do something, anything at all.

Shuji waited silently, watching for Harou to make his move. When he did, it wasn't what Shuji had been hoping for, but it was better than nothing at all. With a grin, he waved politely to Harou and offered him a polite bow. He was hoping to catch Harou off guard with some polite gestures. However, he had to be careful and keep an eye on the Chuunin. Just because he was slightly distracted, it didn't mean that he could have some kind of trick in mind.

Waiting for another moment, Shuji lifted his head from it's bowed position and stretched his legs. Once his legs were stretched, Shuji reached down with his hands and attempted to touch his toes, stretching his back out some. Comfortable that he was now ready to continue, Shuji reached his right hand down to his shuriken holster and grabbed about five of the small throwing stars. It was time to continue.

With another grin, Shuji darted to the left and started to run toward the left corner of the arena, his attention focused on Harou the entire time. When he was fifteen feet from his original position, Shuji threw the shuriken he had been holding, watching as they fanned out to cover a wider area. He knew that he wouldn't catch Harou in the attack, but he'd have to change position eventually.
