Ok, I have a 4 yr old. He has had Rota virus several times. I am used to it at this point, BRAT diet, bath at every diaper change (he has autism as well and is not developmentally ready for potty training) and butt paste out the ears. His bottom is still raw, but I am out of ideas on that.
Now my real question is he first got sick on Friday April 24th. And he still has it. His doctor says it is just something he needs to get over but come on, we are going on 3 weeks. CDC website says 3-8 days, we are way past that.
So question is, should I seek a second opinion as to why my child is sick. He cries from the pain of the rash, and basically is living on rice, and Tylenol. I feel so so bad for him cause I can't help him. We don't use wipes when he is sick, he gets a warm bath, washing the bottom with butt bath and then patted dry, lots of butt paste. We change him as soon as he soils his pull up. But the poor kid is in so much pain.

I have to say I would consider getting a second opinion.

Ok took him to the hospital tonight cause he has not had a wet diaper since Friday. I was basically told the stool cultures were negative, and it is not rota virus. But they have no idea why my child has been sick for 3 weeks. And to see his doctor in the morning.. I am so at the end of my rope now.

Pretty much no. We went to the doctor and he said he is not sure what is wrong. Ordered some more tests and said come see me in a week. The problem is the tests are stool samples... and since it is not nothing but water basically.. they are not gonna get anything.

I hope your son will be okay, Maura, and that they can figure out what's wrong. I just hate how stubborn some doctors can be. Obviously you knew something was up -- more doctors need to believe in mother's intuition.

I hope your little man gets better soon and you can get that second opinion!

Well I can say after 4 weeks it finally stopped yesterday. We are holding of on changing his diet back to normal for a couple more days but finally he is not in pain anymore. His rash cleared up pretty much the time that the loose stool did.
The Doctors still have no answer for me. I am gonna ask for him to see a immune specialist. I donate plasma and was talking to one of the women at the donation place and she said they had a lady in there a couple of months ago and this was what was going on with her kids. Turns out they had some rare immune disorder. And considering if someone sneezes across the street Caleb gets sick I am wondering if he needs to be checked for these as well.
But at least I can say I am not up to my eyeballs in diapers anymore.
Thank you all for your well wishes. <3
