It's always pleasant to have a little time to help an old friend practise their skills. You're already pretty good, but I shall see what we can do to address the issues you want to work on. General RP skills, combat and length in particular you said?

Before we begin your lessons I would like to ask a few questions:
1) What areas do you think are your weakest?
2) What areas do you think are your strongest?
3) Are there any specific areas you would like to work on? This does not necessarily mean we may work only on areas you choose, but will certainly make sure to cover them.

Ha, yes it's a pretty standard form I am using to begin the lessons. But hopefully it might help you consider your many strengths. 3nodding

Yup.

1) What areas do you think are your weakest?

I think I'm the weakest at combat, partially because I'm used to having dice rolls or rock paper scissors to determine the outcome of a contested action, free form is hard to get used to, and I'm afraid of god-moding, which makes me hesitent to do anything. I think that I need to work on using more creative discriptions and language. I sometimes have trouble coming up with enough to do in a given post. This may be a function of the charcter I'm playing, but I often feel that my posts are comparitivly boring to read.

2) What areas do you think are your strongest?

I think that I do a good job of keeping my posts coherent and understandable, keeping Carys' personality consistent (within reason). My spelling and grammer, while not perfect, are half-way decent. I think I'm doing a decent job of not god-modding, or otherwise breaking RP etiqutte, other then being slow to post.

3) Are there any specific areas you would like to work on?

See 1). smile

Aww you're not boring to read at all. But I shall gladly help you where I can.
Hmm combat. Free-form can be difficult to get the hang of after years of dice based battling, true enough. I think you'll do well at it though, a lot of it comes down to common sense. Same reason I can't see you ending up a god-modder.

I do agree with all your strengths. Though to us, you are not all that slow. xd

Well, while I consider your combat lessons we can always begin on the issues of length and descriptions. This will be a matter of practise mostly, and step by step improvement.

First of all, let's see what your basic post might be for a given situation.
Take a character (any character you wish, you do not have to use Carys here if you do not wish to). Said character is going to a store and buying some ice-cream.

There you go, what do you make of that? 3nodding

Carys was in a fairly good mood, and there was almost a skip to her step as she headed to the store. Some of that good mood faded when she saw the parking lot, which was almost completely filled with cars. She sighed, and reinforced her shields, preparing herself to deal with the overfilled store. This was, in some ways, a sign of how far she had come. As little as a year ago, she would have turned around and gone back home, waiting until later at night when the store would be less crowded. Today, she continued on, and while she was somewhat aware of an increase in pressure on her shields when she entered the store, she was not overwhelmed by the emotions of so many people.

Upon entering the store, Carys debated whether to take one of the smaller carts, mostly to help her force her way through crowded aisles, and decided it would be more of a hindrance then a help. Besides, she was only here for a couple of quarts of ice cream. She made her way through the produce section and into the frozen food section without too much difficulty, although she did have a minor run in with a woman in an electric cart. However, once she got to the frozen food section, there was a suited man standing right in front of the freezer that contained the brand of Ice Cream that she favored. She waited patiently for a few minutes, but when he continued to just stand there she asked “Excuse me?”

He blinked at her for a few seconds before seeming to realize what she wanted and stepping aside. Carys thanked him, and quickly opened the freezer door, shivering a little at the chill. It only took her a moment to locate the Pistachio ice cream. She grabbed a tub, and closed the freezer door before heading for the checkouts. The cashier in the “7 items of fewer” lane was moving incredibly slowly, mostly because he was flirting with the blonde in a short skirt and low-cut blouse directly in front of her, and Carys had to fight the urge to whap him upside the head with her staff Eventually, he could delay no longer, and the woman went on her way. A few minutes later, Carys was out the door and on the way back to the Library.

Awesome. A perfectly good post about ice-cream indeed.

But seeing as we are working on description and length, I want you to take that last paragraph and double its length. Focus on what Carys can see, hear, smell and sense. hat shouldn't be too difficult at all.
