As I say this, I know most here will not like what I Have to say and I say stick it. think about the quotes for a day before posting a reply, roll them around in your head.

It is an infantile superstition of the human spirit that virginity would be thought a virtue and not the barrier that separates ignorance from knowledge.
-Voltaire

It is one of the superstitions of the human mind to have imagined that virginity could be a virtue.

Voltaire was kind of a smug b*****d xD

While I think virginity is important, I don't know that so much emphasis should be put on it. I advocate waiting until you're in a long term, healthy, commited, and loving relationship to have sex. I advocate waiting until both parties feel comfortable and are ready. But I don't think virginity shouldn't be something to define onesself by.

I think people who choose the remain virgins are, in some cases, pronce to more self control, but not always. However, I also feel like sexually active people can sometimes be considered more responsible since they have to deal with protection and any consequences that may arise. Both are good choices, and people should do what feels best.

As my friend once said, "Being a virgin is like being on the outside of the world's biggest inside joke."

User Image He's got a major point on the first quote, of which I agree, but the second one is based purely on opinion. User Image

well both quotes are basically the same, just different translations and re-iterations.

well what I will say is this. For the right person Virginity means nothing. that is sex should be as important the first time as it is the 100th time, and for the right person not having a first time yet or having had that long ago matters not.

I agree exactly with what you said. I just don't thin virginity should always be a defining factor in a relationship or for a person. Sex is not the end all be all in life or in a relationship.

Even if he believed virginity was not a virtue, it's like saying it's a crime (just to oppose it severely).

Even if it's not exactly what he's saying, it almost sounds like Voltaire is saying "Lose your virginity. Have lots of sex. Live for the makeouts."

XD

I can't help thinking Voltaire is a dirty little slut...

.... *snicker*

Why, yes, I just called a philosopher a dirty little slut...

... I'm too amused by this on several levels.

The thinking that Virginity is not a virtue is the same to me as saying Virginity is a vice, and therefore must be immediately rid of.

That's why I brought up all those superfluous things and ignored ad hominem. XD

I rather enjoy being a virgin and NOT having all those 'adult' worries about protection and sex.
Virginity's the best protection I have, while making sure I know about the various ways to protect myself in the event of. I don't keep myself ignorant about these things-not on purpose.

I'd just rather not have sex until I really, truly wanted to.

In that regard, dirty slutty Voltaire can go suck a dirt clod. D=

I will not be ridding myself of my vice any time soon just because he thinks it's a supersition that virginity is a virtue. -_-;

well if you actually take time to understand what he is saying, the point he is making is that virginity is just a fabrication, it is in itself nothing special. sex is nothing special. pre-sex and post-sex you dont change.

Bah, I don't care what you say to back him up and defend him. My opinion in this matter is that what he has to say is nothing more than an opinion. People will say what they believe, and congrats to him for his own beliefs. But that is all they are in the world of truths: HIS beliefs. No matter how many times I read it or how long I think of it, the same thoughts always come into my head. He is shrewd, rude, and very arrogant for thinking he knows all that exist in these matters. So I am a lesser being than he for keeping myself in the dark of said matters? I do not care for it, and that is my own bussiness. It is none of his to tell me where that puts me in society, and I would like to tell him EXACTLY where he can put his "knowledge".
