Okay, so I've had my same sig for a while: User Image
Right?
And I've gotten messages saying that it's over bandwidth. 2, in fact. And I've paid the fine. Well I get another one today, when in fact I haven't changed it in months. And I pay the fine. Well just now I get a PM saying this:
Quote:
Earlier in the day your signature was disabled for being over bandwidth. You have failed to change it and you were quoted stating you would not be changing it. Your signature cannot stay over bandwidth, it will continue to be disabled and the fines do continue to raise. I would definitely recommend changing your signature to be within guidelines. I am giving you this chance to change it without it being disabled. I will be checking back tomorrow evening. If it is not changed by then it will be disabled again.

Is it only fair that if I have paid the fine that it should remain? I understand that the restriction on bandwidth is important and it is a traffic issue but people don't have to keep paying for username or gender changes over and over again. (what I mean by this is they don't have to keep paying for one change)
Is this quite fair? I think they should have just told me beforehand that I should have changed it rather that have me pay to keep it then just tell me to change it after I've paid them.

Why don't you ask them about it?

They're right. Being a former sig-killer*, I have to side with "them" on this one. Throwing a tantrum when it would be easier for both parties if you just followed the rules isn't getting any sympathy from me.

And here's why I can see their point:

Not everyone's got a good connection**, and while your sig alone may not be all that taxing to it, a dozen or so big-a** sigs per page are a problem for some people.

I used to be one, back when I had a lousy 256 KB/s connection.

And I'm sorry, but who owns the place? That's the person who makes the rules, and can choose to disable some things from those who don't want to abide to them. My advice would be to tune the sigs down to whatever limit they have, because when push comes to shove, they won't mind losing one member. I know I wouldn't, and I know a lot of mods would chose the site's peace over "I-do-whatever-I-want-so-what?" users anyday.

* A moderator in another site, mainly in charge of keeping Big Bad Sigs down by means of disabling them for a given time period (I even went the baseball way. Three strikes, you're outta the freaking site.)

** While I do get their point and I do agree with them, whoever doesn't want the big bad sigs to get to them can always use Firefox's AdBlock to block anything that's slowing their surfing up. If more people got a clue and stopped using Internerd Exploder and Dope-ra, forums and other sites wouldn't need to be so "tight-assed" with their rules.

Doesn't make having big-a** sigs right, though, and I'd rather not have to spend more time in Gaia forums blocking sigs than I do reading the topics.

"No, really, I don't care about that s**t-a** 1024 pixels tall L stick figure you made this morning."

ETA: Pst, did you realize your signature's above the "physical" limits right now? 515 pixels tall right now, do something about that line between the two pictures. Just a tip from someone who used to measure up signatures as a 'job' and knows how those assholes think. "15 pixels over the limit is over the limit, period."

I always thought that it wouldn't show up if it was over the limit.
