My brother recently discovered that I'm a witch. Ever since, he's found it quite funny. I'll ask him to get something for me and I'll get this as a response 'Well why don't you witch it over there.' Or something like that. I don't know how to convey to him that its not something that I'm doing as a joke. Its part of me now. My grandmother asked him why he has to keeps bringing things up to people. His response "I don't. This is just so stupid" I just want him to stop and leave me alone. But it hurts a lot to listen to someone bashing something that means so much to me. So, maybe some advice on how to deal with him? Also some other stories of people who just don't get it.

I know it hurts and it's a pain to put up with, but unfortunately it's something most of us just have to learn to live with to some degree.

This is why I refrain from using the 'w' word around ignorant people.

I've dealt with this before and am still dealing with it.

My step father found out that I was a witch and ever since he did, I've been given hell for it.

He has destroyed my alters to the point where there was nothing but shattered glass and torn tarot cards in his wake. I've "lost" crystals and tools. He teases me and even brings it up in public in front of people who would literally have me burned at the stake for it. Made fun of my psychic "qwirks" yet wants me to read his cards and palm when ever he gets the chance to ask me...

It's confusing, infuriating, and soul shattering to go through this and I will pray for you to get some respect. I'll make sure of it.

All I can do is keep everything quiet and not bring it up, and then explain things when I can...

I'm hoping one day he'll understand too..

ah yes.i refer to that as coming out of the broom closet strangely enough.a while back i told my friend i was considering witchcraft and he had no problem with it.he understood as he was at that point considering satanism and other things.however i told one of my best friends and she freaked out.
however she never mentioned it again and i felt she was sometimes uncomfortable.it just depends on who they are and theres not much you can do about it just hope they understand that and that this is your choice but no one should be ridiculed for anything like this or at all for their intrests or beliefs

Have you tried talking to him and explaining why it is so special? Maybe if he knows why it hurts, maybe then he might reconsider attacking you about it.

What Nami said ^
Have you tried explaining things to him? If you have and he still doesn't get it, I'm afraid you'll just have to learn to bear it. It sucks but I'm afraid it's a part of life and not just for pagans.

I know this post is kinda old, but I tried to hide it from most people as most people don't understand, even if the type of witchcraft you are doing is not what they think you are doing if you get my drift. Anyway, when my family found out, my mother, who is in a christian cult type religion decided it was her job to be ignorant and make my life a living hell, my father joked around about it all the time but at least he learned something about it. My youngest sister took my mother's side and my other sister stuck with me, because she is an athiest lawl. Anyway, to put things into simpler perspective, there's always going to be a jerk that tries to make your life hell, the best you can do is be the better person and deal with it. If you have a friend or someone close to talk to, do it, don't keep it all bottled up.

hmm. i remember having an argument with my dad about elements. he's a hard science kinda guy, and wouldn't acknowledge the duel definition of the term element. he only recognizes the periodic table of elements as elements.

and when my mom found out i was pagan she said "it's fine, whatever, as long as it doesn't hurt anyone"...but i noticed shortly after that the amount of junk fwd and chain emails that were christian and god related had increased. i eventually told her to cut it out, and thankfully she did.

i've just been blessed with not having to worry about that sort of thing. i've never hidden who i was, but nor have i gone up to people and say "Hi! i'm a witch!" if they ask i say yes, but if they don't i leave the matter alone
