Want to know why I prefer no elitism, or at least minimum elitism in this guild? I've already had someone complain who joined this guild at one point who prided himself on being an elitist jerk. Okay, fine. But, dont get pissed off when you're being the jerk and no one seems to really want to talk to you. Makes sense right?

Well, CaptainRedBeard and I had a long chat on Facebook about what we think of elitists in the industrial, cyber/rivet scene.
This is my rant:
Elitists (I should have fixed my post in the other guild,) They dont ruin the scene, but stunt its growth. The reason they stunt the growth of the scene is because they deter people who may honestly want in the scene and enjoy the music, from truly enjoying it because they're high and mighty a** holes about it. We also discussed that elitists are more often than not kids who are new to the genre themselves and have looked everything up, therefore they think they know everything and are better than you. (Not to say all elitists are kids. Some of them are far older than you and just have nothing better to do.)
Our scene is supposed to be a community. Even alot of the older patrons will tell you that. We're supposed to be close knit and supportive. With out that support or community mindset, and what not, scenes fail because you gain few new supporters because of a** holes. There is nothing elite about anything, except maybe Harvard, Yale or colleges like that, but that's not what we're talking about!!!!
There is nothing better about anyone else just because you may know more, or listen to aggro, or coldwave, Dress in a particular cyber brand, or dont, or whatever. Chances are, we all listen to it, all enjoy it, and all want to discuss our opinion and our fandom of it.
Downing someone for it is just uncalled for, in my opinion, especially people who are new and honestly trying to get into it.
I will admit, I've been guilty of it sometimes in the past. Sometimes my opinions are a bit sharp, but I've worked on that, and I can see how much of a b***h I was (especially when I was a black metal elitist! Oh god they are the worst! lol) But when I was new to this scene a few years ago, I knew how it felt to not know alot and want to discover more. The only connection I had was a freind who got me everything until I had the means to find it on my own. Once I had the means, I discovered alot of people were general jerks about the music, and I honestly couldnt understand why, when it's just music, we all like the same thing in one form or another.
One thing I will give the industrial elitists credit for is that they still appreciate the old, however they are disgusted with the new (and I will admit that in most cases, many bands just arent the same as they were back with like...their first album) whereas black metal people (to use in comparison) try to find the most unheard of, most undergroud act they can find to be better than you, because if you havent heard of it, you're a poser, and if you have, you're a poser and they now refuse to listen to that band, and anyone else listening to that particular band makes you a poser. Yay, internet elitists. lol
And that brings me to another point:
most of this is just on the internet. THE INTERNET!!!! I mean really. Go to a cyber or goth club or show, and chances are, a good part of the crowd is going to be somewhat freindly (as freindly as they can be considering they've never met you before!)

I think I've ranted too long. I think you get my point.
Feel free to discuss..................NOW!!!!!

(Also note that I am not trying to offend anyone, point any fingers or start an arguement. This is just my opinion n_n)

I'm going to say that my opinion
is those who are young will grow
eventually....at some point.
I mean, everyone's entitled
to thier own opinion. Even I'm an a**
sometimes..
I should probably work on that..

I think we all can be a bit of an elitist sometimes. To put a little bit of a positive aspect on elitism, or the attitude, some older people are guilty of it because they are afraid of the change that new people may or may not bring to it.

I wanted to know why and now I know!
I agree with you. I think people sometimes take things too seriously and forget that things are supposed to be enjoyable.

That was a pretty good convo..

i picked just this one section to quote.. I have ran into some industrial elitist who try and find the most obscure industrial bands and act like you are a poser if you havent heard of them...but yeah the black metal guys are worse and do it more....

I also wanted to add a little to what was mentioned out of the conversation from facebeook..

I also mentioned how elitists are quick to say how playing X instrument, or doing Z with a instrument, etc etc "isn't industrial"
Industrial was started as a EXPERIMENTAL break from the mainstream, so saying something "isn't industrial" (within reason, lol 30 seconds to mars is NOT industrial...stupid tabloids) is against the whole idea of industrial

lol, yeah, very true. I remember that actually being a little bit of a discussion in the electronica forum a bit ago. People were talking about what they used as instruments, or what they recorded. Some people were using window units with a microphone taped to it, lol.

Hey man, noticing it and trying to work on it is good. That is a sign of maturation, and also strides better than the others who either don't realize it or are proud of the fact (wtf?)
