Who is your favorite god/dess? Why?
Say a little about them? 3nodding

You can list more than one too, if you want.

I don't like saying "favourite", I guess in the same way you wouldn't say who your favourite pet was or your favourite kid. I love different gods in different ways, I'm closer to some than others... but there are aspects of some gods I'm not too close to that I really love and respect them for, you know? So I can't really say for favourites.

I suppose this is so for pantheons outside our own worship, so you could say of a god you've never met "he's one of my favourites", implying that you really enjoy his myths and like his character or aspects of his character.

For example, I'm not one of Tyr's (though I do honour him), but I really respect his honour and devotion to duty. So he's one of my "favourite" gods, in that sense.

I was going to count your own personal gods, or just ones you admire.

I'm actually looking for a god/dess to honor, since I'm having the crappiest time deciding who I really would like to dedicate time to. There are lots of myths of different god/desses that I admire, but none of them really have struck anything with me so far.

Sounds frustrating.

The gods I have contact with most often are Loki, Sigyn, Odinn, and Thorr, and two deities outside Nordic religion that may, or may not, be the same deities honoured by many Neo-Wiccans. (Don't ask me. I no longer know.) I'm interested in building more of a relationship with Hel, Sif, Tyr and Frigg, and I'd like to learn more about Anpu, Persephone, Hekate and Ares (just to mix things up a little).

I forget, do you focus within one pantheon particularly?

I've looked at a bunch of different pantheons, though I think I've focused more on the greek dieties. I don't know what all different ones to look up.

If there isn't a pantheon that has appealed to you so far, there are two courses I would consider:

One is to look closer at the cultures that worshipped these pantheons to see whether they mesh with you better than you thought they would at first.

The second is to cast your net further afield. There are pantheons that we'd consider rather more "obscure" that are nevertheless honoured by people, particularly those living in those same cultures that used to worship them. Slavic recon, Finnish, Basque, etc.

The secret third option is that deities in particular might not be where your path lies at this point. If the idea works for you, you might try honouring land spirits in your area.

I've been waiting to be drawn to someone in particular.

I really like the idea of Artemis, and what I know of Hecate (definitely could know more..). Artemis has such a unique history behind her.

I wouldn't mind looking up more obscure pantheons, but I don't know where to look. And I've already pretty much accepted that there's no god/desses in my life at this point, that I might cross with them in the future. It'd be nice if it'd happen, but it's fine if it doesn't.
I'm not sure how to honor the land spirits. I throw bread into the river for the fish? sweatdrop

Oh. Well I just talked to my boyfriend about gods. He said he's actually tried out different ones, including the norse gods.. and that apparently it's a hit or miss on whether they'll interact with him or not and whether or not it's favorable or not. That amuses me.
I've never actually tried to invoke a god/dess to help me, just tried talking to the nothingness to see if anyone responds. :< I can't figure out how to do this. I don't do rituals enough to try to ask anyone to join me, nor do I know who I'd want to request.

So, I'm wondering.. is the fact that they're willing to help even briefly a sign they've chosen you, or just that they don't mind you?

I wouldn't recommend asking for help as your first contact. Some will be willing enough but it's better to start with an offering than a request.

If I was in your position I'd make an offering to a pantheon as a whole, and then wait to see if there was any indication that it was favourably received. See what impressions you are getting, whether it's one of belonging or more of a "that's nice, thanks and all, but you're not ours" or whatever. Once you get to know the pantheon and culture, it's more likely that some individual deities will come forward.

But yeah. Work through a list you're interested in, if you like. Leave it two or three weeks between offerings and see if you get any sort of response.

What kind of offerings should I leave? And where?
And to who? I can't think of much besides the greek pantheon. The whole norse pantheon just doesn't sit well with me.. I don't know. Where can I look?

Springwater seems fairly safe. A little looking into each pantheon should give you an indication of what to leave... the Greeks will like olive oil or wine, the Norse practically anything alcoholic, the Egyptians I think like milk. You don't need to give much or go too far out of your way.

If I were you - if you feel no particular inclinations anywhere - I'd go through a list. Unless, like the Norse pantheon, they don't sit well with you, just make a list and go down it. Greek. Roman. Egyptian. Slavic. Finnish. Vedic. Mayan. Aztec. Sumerian. Yada yada. All you're doing is saying "hello" and making an offering, so hopefully no one will get upset or anything. Take your time, take a long time between offerings, and so on.

Where? Outside. Just say something about your offering and pour it onto the ground.

Ah. Well that makes it lots simpler. Thanks! biggrin

For a long time I had a connection to Isis, though I seem to have lost it within the last few months. Though that could be completely my fault for not paying enough attention. sweatdrop I've seriously considered looking into Kemeticism, but truly feel that it is not the path I was meant to be on.

I also feel called to Wicca, so if those particular Gods are the ones knocking or some other ones, I may never know unless I become an initiate.

Because of hubby's interest, I have an interest in the Norse pantheon, particularly Tyr (though I've never really pursued it in any way).

I don't have a favorite deity persay. I thought about establishing a relationship with Pan at one point, but that fell through. I don't know which Gods are calling me. I feel like either the Greek or Nordic Gods would welcome me so I don't know.

I would have to say the my Favorite Goddess is Elitheia The Goddess of Child Birth. Because my dream has always been to be the mother of at least 13 children. 13 because it is the sacred number in wicca and because if I alow This goddes to be my main female deitie Then I know I could acheive my goal.

As for My Favorite God it would have to be Posidian Because he is the God of the water. Though I am a child born under fire bound by the God Arise I always Fell the best around water. Infact I have to take a shower everyday or I get very Angry. Perhaps it is because Water Binds my Firey Nature.
