The afternoon sun filtered down through the trees of the forest, save where the young stallion ran, a moving sunset hours ahead of his time. He was enjoying the challenge of running a terrain not suited for it, avoiding the obstacles of root, branch and undergrowth and the quiet all around him.
If Canace was here, she'd be talking his ear off. If Mother was here, she'd be quiet, but worried. Calor really didn't want to think about his father and his "honor" though. Moltres' life was not the one his son wanted.
Calor shook his head, his braided mane flopping around. These sorts of thoughts were exactly why he liked runs like this through the seemingly-empty forest.

It was a great day to explore, but then again, every day was a great day. She soon found herself roaming a forest that was nearby her new home, which she should be getting herself used to, but that was boring. Why do that when there is so many other places she can go?
Inside the forest, Quidal's eyes seemed to scan everywhere possible, trying to take in everything she could. Her ears swiveled around her head at any slightest noise she heard as well. As she got further into the forest, she wondered what kind of animals lived here... well, besides birds and bugs. She hoped there were other horses, it would be great to meet any neighbors she might possibly have.

Later Calor would reflect on how fortunate it was that the stranger's colors were as bright and obvious in the forest as his own. At that moment in time he was much more concerned with not running the other Soquili over.
It took a fair amount of effort to halt the forward momentum, and the young stallion was unable to absorb much information about the stranger he was trying to stop hurtling towards. He noted the short but incredibly bright mane and tail, but the rest of his attention was caught up in trying to stop.
He did, finally, and shook his head to clear it and focus on the Soquili before him. "Uh...good afternoon?"

Her ears perked when she heard something thundering toward her, soon followed by spotting what was causing the sound.
Seeing the other Soquili barreling toward her, her eyes widened for a moment before soon closing, embracing for impact. She winced more and more as she expected to be crashed into. When nothing did happen, the mare opened an eye, followed by the other. Turning her head, she saw the Soquili in front of her... her heart was still beating a mile a minute though.
When the other greeted her, she bowed her head lightly. "Hello."

"Um, hi," Calor replied awkwardly and backed up a few steps to give the mare some breathing room. She was...pretty. Her orange mane and tail were brighter than any of his own coloration, which was an impressive feat. Her blue back and nose were intriguing, as was her necklace.
Belatedly the stallion realized he was staring. "Um, sorry about that. My name's Calor." He didn't actually ask the mare for her name...but his tone made it clear he was hoping she'd be in a mood to give it.

Quidal didn't even notice his staring, mainly because she was giving him a quick look over, herself. His colors went so well with each other and his mane and tail were lovely, especially with the braid... more extravagant than hers. But most of her attention was on the pointed object that stuck out from his forehead, she had never seen anything like it before.
When he had introduced himself, she blinked a bit and returned her attention to him. "Oh... it's nice to meet you Calor. My name is Quidal."

Quidal. It was a fascinating name, like nothing he'd ever heard before. And yet...it really seemed to suit her and her fiery mane and tail.
"That's...a really pretty name," the young stallion told the mare shyly. Now that the adrenaline of his run had worn off he was a shyer creature, especially around a pretty mare.

Her name was pretty? She always thought that it was an ordinary name. Calor! Now that was a nice name. "Well, thank you. Your name is rather nice too. Does it mean anything? It seems like it does." She asked.
At first, she didn't notice his demeanor changing. It was when the stallion spoke of her name that she caught it. Shyness, it was a curious thing to her, never having had the feeling before. Or perhaps he was nervous? Did he see something behind her? Should she look... no, that would be rude... she thinks. Well, the only way she will find out will be to ask. "Is there something wrong?"

"You're welcome!" Calor replied happily. She'd thanked him! How cool was that? Then the fact that she'd asked him a question penetrated. "Oh! Um, it uh, means," Calor blushed as he reviewed what he'd been told, "heat, warmth...I think my dad gave me the name for my coloring? I mean, he might have been hoping that I'd have flames like him..." It occurred to the young stallion that he was rambling. More importantly that he was rambling to avoid listing the rest of his name's definition: zeal, passion, ardor, love.
And then she asked if something was wrong. "Um, no! Nothing's wrong at all! Everything's fine, fine!" Calor answered quickly, in a slight panic, voice squeaking out the last word. He didn't want to scare her away or anything!

"Oh really?! That's awesome." She exclaimed, flicking her tail softly. "As for the flames your father might have hoped you'd have... I think you're fine without them." She said, giving him an emphatic nod as if to support what she just said.
She was going to settle with him saying that everything was fine, but when he 'squeaked' the last word, she had to tilt her head. Honestly, she giggled on the inside at it, but not in a teasing manner. "Are you sure?" Quidal just wanted to confirm if he was truly okay since something obviously is seemingly bothering him.

The young stallion blushed with pleasure as Quidal dismissed his lack of flames. She was so kind!
He blushed harder as the mare picked up on his nervousness. "Really, I"m fine!" he told her hastily. Desperately, he searched for something to distract her from his state of being. "What about your name? Does "Quidal" mean something?" Calor managed, finally, to get his blushing under control, but his heart was still pounding. How was it that just seeing this pretty mare made him lose his cool?

Quidal smiled cutely at the color on his cheeks, short tail 'wagging' happily.
"Well... if you say so." The mare replied with a small giggle, though she had to tilt her head at the stallion's hurried response. His inquiry had her nibbling on her bottom lip in thought. "Hmm... not sure. Though I think it's something like 'burning torch'."

Burning torch. Another hot and fiery name. Oh, how much more wonderful could she be!?
"It's a lovely name," he told the mare. "I think it suits you from the tips of your ears to the tips of your hooves." Oh man, was that too over the top? He certainly hoped not. Curse his sister Canace for not teaching him how to talk to girls he wasn't related to while she babbled on to him!

The compliment he gave her caught her slightly off guard. A small blush appeared on her cheeks as she gave him a small nod. "Thank you... though I still think your name is much nicer!" Her embarrassment didn't last too much longer as the restless feeling she usually got when she wandered off returned to her. "Hey! Were you doing something before you ran into me?" She asked, hoping that he wasn't.

"You're welcome, and thank you," Calor replied, trying to make it clear with his tone that he meant it from the bottom of his heart. Oh, she was so pretty! If only he wasn't stumbling over his own thoughts, trying to figure out what to say to her!
"I was just excercising, you know, running," he gabbled out, happy for a question he could answer.
