Cannon as NPCs or Playable Characters?

Since there hasn't been much of a draw to play the original characters(Miaka, Taka, Yui, Testuya, Mayo, and Keisuke) in the guild, I've been wondering if I should simply make them NPC characters. Or, perhaps, just NPC until someone applies for them, that way we can still have interaction with them.

I want to know everyone's opinion on it, so please vote in the poll and/or leave a message.
