About Firion

Firion is the black sheep of the family due to the fact he is not blood related to Maria and Leon. Firion is originally from Salamand, but his parents died and he was left orphaned, later adopted by Maria and Leon's parents and he was brought to Flynn. There, he lived a peaceful life with his siblings and his best friend Guy, a man who shares a similar story of Mogly of the Jungle Book. Firion is normally very quiet, and an average person overall. There is nothing special about him at all, and his party members are not special at all either.

When Emperor Mateus continued the Empire’s hatred, Flynn fell when Princess Hilda’s general betrayed them, giving Mateus Flynn’s weaknesses for sparing his life. There, Princess Scott fought hard to try to hold Flynn, but he fell in battle and was held in a secret room in the bar of the occupied Flynn. Firion, Maria, Guy, and Leon were cornered by Black Knights in the woods and were slain. Luckily, the Wild Rose Rebellion found them, and they were restored by Minwu the White Wizard.

Firion offered to join the fight, but because they were late teenagers, early adults, Hilda refused them and told them to try to live normal lives. Firion met Gordon, Scott’s demoralized younger brother outside the hideout, and he heard about Flynn’s fate. Though he didn’t believe Gordon, he Maria, and Guy went to Flynn to see the rumors were true. Soon, they met with the mortally wounded Scott, who gave him his ring, and his confession to Hilda. But he took it back to keep Hilda’s mind intact, so Firion honored Scott’s wish and didn’t tell Hilda that Scott loved her.

He was later joined by Minwu to gather Mythril, a magical metal to better equip the army. They heard from the residents of Salamand, that many of their citizens were being forced to mine this metal for the empire, which made Josef, the villager not want to aid the party. Paul, Flynn’s own thief, saved the residents while Minwu led the party to Mythril.

After, they soon found themselves facing the Empire’s ultimate killing machine, a giant airship known as the Dreadnought. Its power decimated towns and killed thousands of people in moments. The only way to destroy the heavily armored machine was to cause the engine to blow with sunfire. Though Cid, a local airship man could not be any help to the party. The Kingdom that fell to the empire had Sunfire in their keep. But only those of the royal line can enter the keep, unless they had a magical item known as the Goddess Bell, which was hidden in an icy cave north of Salamand. Though during the attack of the Dreadnought, the King of Flynn’s health became worse. Minwu left the party to better serve the rebellion as he ease the suffering of the king.

Now, Josef, wanting to repay Firion, joined the party as the leader of the expedition to the cave. There, the party other than Firion became aware of Guy’s importance in the party as he spoke to the beavers. Finding the Bell, Firion and company left the cave, falling into the ex Flynn’s general’s trap. He rolled a boulder to crush the party, but as a man of courage, Josef tried to stop it with his bare hands. Though he knew he would die, he only hoped to buy the party time for them to escape. There, Josef lost his life and depression began to spread from the party to Salamand, when Josef’s daughter withdrew into herself after finding out Josef died. This moment set the entire mood of Final Fantasy 2. Going to Kashuan Keep, Firion ran into the cowardly Gordon. He joined the party to aid in the search for Sunfire. There, they found the sunfire and brought it to the now restocking Dreadnought, blowing it to pieces.

There Gordon joined the rebellion, but the King lost his life. Hilda went into hysteria from the shock and Gordon took over as leader. Knowing the strength of the rebellion was still far from powerful; Firion went to gain the aid of the Dragoons, while Minwu went to break the seal on Ultima.

Firion met a Pirate who tricked him while at sea. Her name was Leila. Though her pirates were no match, Firion spared her life and she was to join the rebellion. They now had use of a ship, and unfortunately, Mateus made it to the dragoons before Firion did. He had poisoned the water supply, killing almost all the wyvern and dragoons. Only Kain Highwind and his mother were left with a dying mother wyvern. Firion was ordered to bring a wyvern egg to a spring at the bottom of the island, and they soon left back to the rebellion, only to find that Hilda was acting stranger. Firion was ordered to speak alone with her, only to be seduced by a Lamia Queen. Luckily, Leila being a pirate and a woman saw that coming a mile away and put a stop to it before Firion was devoured.

Turned out, the empire played the switcharoo on the rebellion, and was holding a tournament in Palamecia, using Hilda as a prize. With Gordon’s help, Hilda was saved, but the party was tricked by Mateus. During the great escape, Hilda was rescued again, and this time, they weren’t going to let the Empire push them around anymore. Leila, who was leading in Gordon’s stead, organized an attack on Flynn that was successful.

The only option left was to aid Minwu in obtaining Ultima. Though they needed a crystal rod to enter the Mysidian Tower. Because it would be difficult to obtain, Firion and company had to get two masks, the white mask, which was hidden within the darkest forgotten parts of the castle, and the black mask, which was hidden on a remote tropical island with mask wearing islanders. Obtaining both, Firion went through the Mysdian Cave and obtained a crystal rod, now on course for the tower. But as fate would have it, there was a price to the crystal rod. A giant sea monster known as Leviathan was attracted by the rod’s power, and devoured all those who held one. Leila jumping ship like a smart person, avoided the fate of the party as they traveled through the inside of the beast. There, they met the only Dragoon who was not subjected to the poison, Ricard Highwind. Though he didn’t believe it at first, Ricard soon accepted the fate of his fallen brothers and somewhat adopted Kain as a favor to his dear friend and father of Kain. After escaping the beast and traveling through the tower, Firion and party soon found themselves with Minwu who used all his life energy to break the seal on Ultima. Though he died, Firion and the party pushed their tears away and took the tome in honor of Minwu.

With the death of Minwu, firion took the place as leader of the group. Now unable to accept the many deaths that had occurred throughout the war, Firion Maria, Guy, and Ricard raided Palamecia castle and killed Mateus.

All was good for about three days. Then a cyclone appeared, ripping through all the small towns and killing 90% of Flynn. The party took the newly hatched Wyvern into the cyclone to see a fortress within it, being controlled by Mateus’ right hand man, the Dark Knight. But upon reaching the Dark Knight, Maria soon was shocked to see the Dark Knight was actually Leon, her brother. He claimed throne over the empire, but it was short lived as Mateus cheated death and returned to the world of the living with power over hell. Ricard fought alone again the Emperor to better buy the party time to escape, he was torn apart.

Now with Leon in the party(More or less against his will), Firion, Maria, Guy, and Leon traveled to the castle of hell through the Jade Passage. Braving the bowels of Hell, Firion used the blood sword, a mysterious weapon Paul came across during his days robbing the empire, against the newly revived Emperor, slaying him as if he was nothing.

Returning to Flynn, Firion shows the first emotion other than pain and sorrow, happiness. But because of Leon’s crimes, Leon parted ways and disappeared from history. It is though that Firion and Maria married and lived a fairly decent life.

Theories of Firion

Imbreeding?- this is one I found a while back. No Firion is not imbreeding if he married Maria and did the deed. Firion is adopted, that's why he looks so differen't from Leon and Maria.

BloodSword- This is a theory regarding how Paul came across Blood Sword. Naturally the blade looks evil and due to the history of rage in the Palamecian line after a past Emperor lost his daughter to a smart man, it is very possible that the Blood Sword belongs to the Palamecian line of Royalty

Trivia

First main character in the entire series.

Original sprite is that of fighter.

First to get a profile portrait.

Firion's role heavily mirrors that of Luke Skywalker from Star Wars. They are both the main protagonists of their respective franchises and they resent their respective empires for the deaths of some of their loved ones. Both lose their biological and foster parents to the empires, although in Luke's case, Anakin Skywalker is still alive albeit as Darth Vader. Also, they both join a specific Rebel Army to stop the main villains' rule with an iron fist. They also sense some good in Vader and Leon (who was still a Dark Knight prior to rejoining the party) respectively.

Firion is wearing a cape in prototype screenshots of the Wonderswan Color version of Final Fantasy II, as he did in his artwork by Amano. His sprite would not have one until the release of the PSP version.
