About Cecil Harvey

Cecil was born to a Lunarian named Kluya and Cecilia from Earth. Cecil's father was killed before he was born, and his mother died in labor. His brother Theodor then ran away with him, but abandoned him outside Baron. The King eventually found him and named him Cecil, since he resembled his late mother.

Raised by the King of Baron, Cecil has gone through many trials in which a normal person would be slaughtered. While he spent a brief time as Dark Knight, he later shed his dark armor and the blade Leon(Final Fantasy 2) left behind, the Deathbringer. He took up the Myth engraved blade and embarked in a long and rather odd journey.

He plays part of the role of Abel in the Christian religion, while his step brother Kain plays the part of cain. Ironically, they went more into this with the GBA remake in which Kain must face dark Kain by himself. But because he failed in real life, Dark Kain came to life when Kain failed his trials on Mount Ordeals.
After his struggles with Zermous on the moon, Cecil married Rosa and had a son named Ceodore, named after Golbez. Though his fathering style finally broke him of his lucky streak.
Ceodore grew up somewhat like Cecil, but he took all of Cecil’s negative traits instead of his positive ones. Biggs and Wedge often said that Ceodore should be fine because he was the son of Cecil and Rosa, which made Ceodore mad because he naturally felt that people only said those because of his bloodline, which resulted in him lashing out at people claiming blood has nothing to do with it.

Though they never said anything about Cain in the bible, they broke the religious streak in 4 by making a grand reappearance of Kain using both Dark Kain and the hooded man. While the hooded man gave Ceodore the ideals to become a man, Cecil was under mind control, up until Kain, now a holy Dragoon but a stop to it.

It is suggested that Cecil weakened over time as a person due to the pressures of being a king, and Ceodore running around with the Red Wings. With the attack on Baron Castle, he was cut down and instead of Kain being taken over; Cecil was subjected to mind control. The role reversal we see in the after years shows that Cecil is not as strong as they made him out in 4. But hey, no one is perfect.

Theories on Cecil

Lunarian powers unleashed- Well in the after years, Ceodore is only a quarter Lunarian while Theodore and Cecil were half. Though they do not unleash their true power, Ceodore does in reaction to almost dieing. This shows that Cecil was not ever put into a situation like Ceodore has. Though because he had Rosa and Kain, its understandable why he never faced something that broke his limits.

Return of the Dark Side?- Despite being turned paladin and being a goody two shoes, Cecil is still a living being, and all living beings have light and dark in him. But because he was a goody two shoes, the darkness never over took him while he was a dark knight, but a bit of the dark knight in him never left and was brought back on the true moon.

Relations with the Lunarians?- This is true. While his dad was full Lunarian, this would mean he would have some family on the moon as well. In fact, it is said that Fusoya is his uncle.

Why Kain never showed up tp the wedding- You know, this is a stupid question that I have to answer a lot now a days with the remake and the after years. Kain loved Rosa. But it was one sided and because of Kain's weak mind being taen over a number of times, he felt both pain and shame, causing him to leave for Mount Ordeals. His dark side is Kain's deepest desires manifested into flesh and it acted on Kain's evil intentions. Kain most likely knew about all this and not wanting to ruin his friendship with Cecil, he didn't show up which was most likely the best idea at the time. Though I'm sure Kain was made Ceodore's god father after the events of the after years.

Trivia

A character named Cecil appears in Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, as an NPC in Marr's Pass. He has little connection to Cecil from Final Fantasy IV as he claims that he used to be quite the ladies' man, which makes his personality different from Cecil. However, in Final Fantasy IV the player has the opportunity to take Cecil to a brothel and view a strip show, and a soldier in Troia reacts as though Cecil asked her to dance for him, implying that there may be a more womanizing side to Cecil not seen in his dialogue. On top of that, the player can obtain a magazine called the "Lustful Lali-Ho" in the Developers' Room (also called Smut in earlier versions), and have Cecil read it. The description of the magazine reads "Cecil's favorite title".

Cecil is the only main character in the series to be married.

Cecil is referenced by Natsuki Takaya in one of her side columns in Fruits Basket Volume 5, showing her love of Final Fantasy.

Cecil is one of only three main characters that are half-human hybrids in the series, the others being Terra of Final Fantasy VI and Yuna of Final Fantasy X, although Lunarians and Al Bhed are essentially humans that possess unique physical characteristics, unlike Espers, who can take on a variety of forms, and possesses unearthly powers.
