Salvia divinorum, Diviner's Sage, Seer's Sage, whatever you want to call it. Have any of you had experience with using salvia, either in recreational or spiritual pursuits? I'm considering experimenting with salvia as an aid to out of body experience or astral projection, but I'm doing lots of research about the topic before I commit to it. So thoughts, opinions, experiences, why I shouldn't do it, etc. would be much appreciated. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salvia_divinorum

I've tried Salvia. Haven't managed to get divinorum though, I've known about it and been trying to get my hands on some for awhile now. Salvia in general, even the stuff I had, is a short short trip in reality, maybe five or six minutes at most, but in your head.....well, my trip, my friends told me, lasted seven minutes. I swear I thought it had been hours. Your whole reality just falls away and....it's pretty nice. If you go into it with a clear intent, even then you just forget. It's like your Self falls away and then the only thing left is your raw unwalled mind.

The stuff that you "try" IS divinorum. There are different species of it, some of it is just a flower of sorts. But the one that you smoke and ingest for effects is salvia divinorum.
Personally I haven't tried it. But it's the one thing I really want to do. I know others who have.

I tried it... and from what I gather my experiences were atypical. It lasted longer and had different affects that what it is commonly supposed to have. The first time I tried it... I completely forgot who I was developed a different set of memories and perceptions and walked upstairs where in I experienced a land of doors and archways and then came back to myself.
It lasted a very very short period of time. I had no optic hallucinations I only percieved everything Vastly differently then what it really was. I percieved arches and doorways... and I was searching for something. From what I was told walking off while on it isn't a common occurance
The second time I tried it it lasted longer then what I was told and everything just seemed sort of unreal for about 4 hours?

Inhale deep as I can and its like

For the record, I've abandoned my interest in salvia in favor of pursuing other avenues to get what I want.
However, I was never considering smoking salvia. I was going to use it in the traditional way. That is, squeezing the juice and ingesting it, or simply chewing a quid of the salvia divinorum leaf. Oral ingestion.
But that doesn't matter now.
