Name: Cyn’gus Drathir’kyorli
Age: 309
Gender: Male
Race: Drow
Alignment: Neutral Good
Class: Bard/Mage (swashbuckler – celestial mage)
Deity: Eilistraee
Appearance: Cyn’gus stands a normal height for a dark elf, but with a slightly greyer skin tone that is characteristic of those drow born on the surface. He keeps his light grey hair short, and usually always covered along with his face, when outdoors. His eyes are an unusual indigo color, yet when he switches to darkvision they become a common crimson.
From many years of travelling to distant ports, he has acquired several tattoos that tell the interesting tale of his journeys. His right forearm displays a full rigged ship with a scrolled title underneath which states “Polaris” His left forearm is covered with a fowled anchor with a wooden fid splicing the line. The majority of his back is covered with the rune symbol Vegvísir, The center of the symbol boasts a cloud dragon wrapped around the shell of a sea turtle. The right shoulder blade is inscribed with the symbols for the four directions. The tops of his fingers and back of his hands are covered in celestial runes.
Background: “By song and sword”, Cyn’gus has strived to live his life in accordance of the precepts set forth by the Dark Maiden. “By the song”, he has dedicated himself through the delicate spinning of the weave in music. Both to honor Eilistraee with the praise of his songs, and to protect those who would be lost in the dark without the sound of her melody to guide them. “By the sword” he has also given blood and sweat in service to protecting the faithful of the Dark Maiden.
Although this is the path that Cyn’gus of the Drathir’kyorli has set himself upon, it was a decision that played out over a lifetime for him to come to terms with. His early life was riddled with tragedy. Loosing both parents, one after the other, he was raised by extended family in a surface world that did not look so kindly on those of his race. The loss of his mother, a devote priestess and Chosen of Eilistraee was the hardest for him to bare. More specifically were the circumstances of her death which bore deep resentments within him that festered for years.
It wasn’t until he followed in the footsteps of his father and went to sea that events began to change in his life. It perhaps was an attempt to put and end to his suffering, since his father was lost at sea when he was still but an infant. However, it was the long years of hard work and the bonds that he forged while sailing savage seas where he matured, learned and began to reconcile the events of his youth.
Showing an intuit ability with the magical arts, and bearing the mark of the Dark Maiden, the Moon Elf navigator Thellanir of the merchant bark Polaris took an interest in the young drow and decided to share with him the rare mystical arcane arts of the starries. This developed over many years until Cyn’gus was assigned to his own ship as navigator and an accomplished ship’s mage.
All the while he continued to nurture his love for music and turned his talent into a masterful skill in the bardic arts. His closest friend and companion during his years at sea, the half elf Esko, taught him the lacramose, melancholic yet beautifully elegant and magical music of Fado. Together with other seafaring bards, they formed a coimbra making their ship the fastest in the fleet playing Fado to the winds and sea.
After finishing an illustrious career at sea, having served as a senior officer for a merchant flagged trading line, Cyn’gus came back to his roots in the town of Starryfell. With a compliment of life events and a deeper understanding of the Dark Maiden’s message, he was anointed a Blessed Emissary of Eilistraee by the High Priestess of the Temple of the Full Autumn Moon, which happened to be the matriarch of his family; Lady Zeenat. Whilst devoting his time in service to the temple, he met his wife Annoi and began a family. Currently Cyn’gus is the happiest he has ever been in all his many years.
