To the one that I serve

Why brownies? Why not other helpful spirits? Why not just work with the spirits already present on your land?

whenever I hear the word "fey" I want to punch babies. And then I want to build a time machine, go back in time and punch William the Conqueror right in the face, Dane Cook style.

That being said, I think it's a great idea, and you can't go wrong by a saucer of cream.

I honestly don't know if there are any spirits living in my house. It wouldn't surprise me if there were. Does any one know if there are rituals that one can do to find out if there are spirits in the home? I do know that there is a Dryad in my yard!

My grandmother swore there was a fae creature in her house (course she refers to all fae as the "Wee People".) She said she could feel them playing in her hair at night while she slept at night and could feel them in the woods surrounding her house looking over her. She's Irish Catholic and never really discusses these things with anyone in the family but me because no one else in the family believes in such things.

It broke my heart when she had to go live with my mother and father a couple years after I moved out because she said that that was what she was going to miss the most about her house. I think she does find some comfort though being in my old room there. There are a lot of good vibes in that room and if things follow suit as when I used to live there, the fae come to visit every now and then and the woods surrounding there most definatly house the fae.

At any rate, back to the question. Offerings are always a nice gesture and usually effective. I haven't done much research on what specific spirits like what specific type of offerings but from personal knowledge- anything that is heartfelt. I've found that food and drink tend to attract more homey-type spirits such as brownies, pretty/shiny/sparkly things such as crystals attract more playful and mischievous spirits, and more primitive, I guess would be the best word for it, type offerings such as bones, blood, animal remains, feathers, and so on tend to attract more ancient or formidable spirits. Which could potentially be dangerous but also could be very protective. At least this seems to be what I've discovered when it comes to attracting spirits or fae creatures.

You might try inviting them into you're circle the next time you open it. Not necessarily call on them to come but just announce that they are welcome if they so chose to join you and mean no harm. Also have an offering as well, and even if you don't get a response right away you're at least reaching out and letting them know that you are there and acknowledge them which may be just what they are waiting for if there are any present in your household.

That's great info, I might consider trying that next time I try to grow plants in my home. Didnt work so well the first time XD I live in the wrong climate for them and even keeping them indoors was rough (the ac got em lol).

Anywho....

I heard chocolate is a good offering, esp if something comes up missing.

I never claimed to be perfect. mrgreen
I don't expect anyone to cater to my neuroses, I just felt like sharing. Literary erosion is like nails on a chalkboard to me.

I would be careful when communicating with the fae, they are not something to play around with. They can really hurt you if you are not careful or can make your life a living hell.

As for letting brownies live in your house, that is some bad juju right there, as my friend would say.

"Customarily brownies (a type of hob – see hobgoblin) are said to inhabit houses and aid in tasks around the house. However, they don't like to be seen and will only work at night, traditionally in exchange for small gifts or food. They take quite a delight in porridge and honey. They usually abandon the house if their gifts are called payments, or if the owners of the house misuse them. Brownies make their homes in an unused part of the house."

I have heard from people that they like to mess with things in the house and even you if you upset them. Can be a bit of a pest.
