I'm a total newb, and I was looking at some Anna House dresses since they're by far the cheapest to start out with, but I saw some articles about cosplay lolita and I really don't want to be "fake". So is Anna House actual lolita, or would people call me cosplay?

Anna House is fine. They're one of the brands that most new lolitas end up being recommended to buy.

By the way, do you think I should get the petticoat from Anna House, or the poof petticoat from inthestarlight? Anna House's is only $10 and I'm worried about how well it'll hold up... no pun intended.

While I myself have never seen an Anna house petticoat....I know that Inthestarlight's petticoats are very good- they could match up to my brand-name one!

I wish I could tell you about Anna House, but I've heard they're great for first time buyers. heart
