The Enemies

[As you reach the isolated smaller bay that Regnes had led you to, the massive jaguar leaps onto a small half-submerged stone in the shallows of the water. He turns to you, and as he does he changes into his human form.

User ImageRegnes: Greetings. My apologies for having to lead you all this way, but ah, here we are. [He motions around him.] This is where the Silken Goblers are mainly caught, as well as the last place the strange creature was sighted. There used to be other monsters in this area, but as soon as the strange creature appeared they've all vanished. We know nothing about the creature or where it came from, but we DO know that it despises loud noises, like sirens or air-horns. Whenever thunder or some other commotion happens, it generally appears and causes havoc. In order to make it appear, we need to generate a massive, constant noise to draw it out of wherever it's hiding. I am rather quiet, so I won't be much help in this area. But do you think you can do it?

Culprit: The Familiar Rokshadeth

User Image

Regnes: Apparently the sea creature responsible for the attacks was a familiar owned by a Water Elementalist known as Sedita. The two escaped relatively unharmed, but the party was severely beat down. I will speak to Lady Mara about the payment for a somewhat unsuccessful venture, as we were not aware that the sea creature was simply not just another monster.

So tell me where were you
When everything fell down like thunder

Having left the Tavern almost as soon as he had entered it, it was easy for Harabe to make it to the Park and then to the Bay.

The reason he signed up for the mission? To see who was the strongest, and if any held the same aura and scent as those who took part in the massacre.

A little money on the side never hurt anyone either. Besides, killing a monster could do him some good, take some anger out on something.

"Alright...I'm here...let's get this over with...how much noise do you need made?"

Harabe was the first to arrive, though he could have sworn he saw someone sign up before him.

I begged you to pull me through
I couldn't get out from under

Water gives life.

It announces birth,
fills the rivers,
feeds the plants which feed us.
It is the everything.

User Image Opheila arrived a minute or two behind Harabe. Lunos was in his usual position around her shoulders. This had been his idea. Opheila had not been a fan of the idea that they had to kill the sea creature - it felt too much like turning against her own. Lunos had gently suggested that she could try to use that kinship to get the creature to go. If it ignored her, it was a danger - not just to her but to others.

Opheila had reluctantly accepted his words. Lunos had never steered her wrong.

She smiled at Regnes, but it was weary. "If it's sound you need..." she murmured. "Let's see what we can do." Her head tilted back, and she gazed up at the sky for a moment or two, as though expecting it would send her the answers.

And send them it did, as shortly afterwards dark clouds - thunderheads -began to gather. Opheila had learned this talent a year or two ago. Although it didn't always work, she could manipulate air moisture, and if the other elements were just right, she could create a thunderstorm.

It appeared that they were just right.

I will not use it to bring death.

Not unless there is no other choice.

Guele Saleh
Human
-Mage-

~

It was not long until another person, clad in traveling garb and a mage's cloak, approached the group. For the time being, he remained silent and simply waited, bidding his time until they were finished recruiting. The body of Saleh seemed to brim with power--and it seemed somewhat chaotic, like the power did not naturally belong there. This mage was terribly powerful; anyone with any magical potential at all could see this. The amount of magic in his body was almost overflowing... but wait; that wasn't right. Magic did not act like that--not in regular human beings. So what was Saleh, then, that his own magic did not fit inside him as perfectly as it should?

User Image Opheila stiffened as she felt another magical signature approach them. Not another Elementalist - no, this was a mage. Lunos immediately lifted his head from beneath her dark hair at the man's approach. Hissing softly in her ear, he murmured, "Remain calm, dear one. You will be fine. You will be fine."

Opheila had this thing about mages. Their tendency to loathe her for the accident of her birth as an Elementalist had made her somewhat fearful of them - no one likes to be hated. This tension had grown into a full-blown phobia over the years, and now the girl found it difficult to even be in the same area as a mage, much less work with one. It was sometimes thought to be pride, that Opheila wouldn't work with mages because she considered them beneath her, but it was merely fear.

Lunos rested his cool head against the side of her neck, and she let out a soft, shaky breath. Then she returned her attention to the growing storm.

Harabe shook his head as the mage approached.

"Is it truly necessary to release so much magic? It seems to me you are showing off mage."

His tone was swift and flat, he didn't exaggerate, he didn't hold back.

Saleh's eyes traveled to Harabe with a leisurely pace, but the expression of his face was neither disdainful nor insulted. Merely, it was a peaceful, unassuming gaze. His tone of voice matched his expression perfectly as he replied, "Necessary it is, but impressing you is not the point."

The mage ignored the elementalist.
