Cavalier: Cavalier Aion of the Core
Name: Booker Charles MacBride
Nicknames: Book by the two-syllable impaired
Age: 16
Birthday: June 18th
Sign: Gemini
Blood Type: AB
Fav. Food: baked potatoes with sour cream and chives but absolutely no butter, very rare steaks when prepared correctly ("No, no! "Rare" implies dangerously cooked. When I say rare I mean just let it look at the oven in terror, then bring it out to me!" -- ... awesome quote, shut up), spinach salads, glazed pecans, pineapple sherbert
Hated Food: anchovies, gummy worms, those candy bars that are disgusting chocolate covered coconut, artichokes, sweet and sour chicken (awful experience with some undercooked portion of it when he was thirteen-- can barely look at it)
School: Meadowville High School
Hobbies: Boxing - The habit and sport was one he picked up from his father when he was young and Trent decided that no son of his should have to deal with any sort of bullying (but really, MacBrides as a whole were not disciplined enough for karate and tae kwon do so off to the ring it was!). While he's no protege and he'd definitely be placed in the a light weight category, Booker has a good idea of how to jab and when to do it. He's won a few matches and can take a hit. Currently a prime player on his high school's team.
Doodling - Definitely not drawing-- Booker's nowhere near good enough for it to be called that-- but he doodles constantly over his notebooks or any scrap paper lying around. It's just a harmless, constant thing, mostly having to do with small astronomy-linked symbols like crescent moons, stars, and the sun (complete with solar flares). Rarely, he takes a break to draw up some big-eyed moose and geese, but he normally sticks to doodling Saturn ('That's the one with the rings, right?') up and down his notebook's divider.
Pinball - Since his college years, Booker's father has owned an old space-ship themed machine where all the objects the ball can hit are planets or astronauts. Even though the pinball machine was settled in the garage for most of his childhood, Booker would lock himself into the game for hours at a time, and often he and his brother would go through whole tournaments of it together where they saw which of them (or their friends) could wrack up the most points before going through two balls. As they got older, they put on ridiculous restrictions such as tying one of the player's hand behind his back or covering their eyes at random moments. As part of Booker's sixteenth birthday, that very machine was moved to his bedroom room taking up an impossible and unnecessary amount of space-- but it was his father's ultimate gift to him and he cherishes it with devotion.
Hiking - While not the sort to go on eight mile treks through the wilderness, he likes paths through forest preserves and he'll walk them with someone if they want to. He has a nice wooden staff for it, actually-- he keeps meaning to take classes to learn how to use a quarterstaff, but he just doesn't have the time.
Gemstone: Alexandrite
Virtues: Charismatic - Booker is the sort of person that can immediately garner in others' attention. He possesses a frankly delivered attitude wherein if you're wearing a shirt with some comic book character he likes-- well. He'll actually say it rather than keeping it quietly in his head. There's a sort of openness about him that's rare to find and it tends to attract people to his side. Unfortunately-- one might say-- Booker mostly uses this gift to keep everyone happy and in order to pursue his own goals. In other words, he has yet to try it on a girl and isn't entirely sure how well that would work out. Friends are
just fine for now.
Ambitious - Booker has plans for himself-- Booker has goals. There are places he wants to go in life and he doesn't think being a one-track-record about them is something to avoid. Truth be told, it's not that he wants to be world-famous and become a household name (not that he'd really say no to either), but Booker wants to get as far as he can and break any boundaries he comes across. He doesn't need to be a bigshot movie star, but he does want to be a man who didn't let any roadblock stop him. As a plus, Booker's brand of ambition really isn't a cruel trait-- it's all about what he wants for himself and putting in a world of effort to get it. He doesn't ever see the need to put others down in the process.
Philosophical - Booker is extremely interested in philosophy-- both western and eastern-- and can get rather caught up in the task of trying to decipher another person's motivations. Even the symbolism prevalent in his own life usually becomes a topic of immediate intrigue; if he sees the number two continually, even knowing that such a thing is probably coincidence and doesn't matter, he
will think about it. Since he was young he was into the oft-called 'useless' discipline of trying to read his dreams (aka finding Dream Interpretation books on Amazon.com and treating them like verifiable bibles of his subconscious). He gives the Land of Nod a great deal of credit.
Reliable - Booker comes to meetings on time, has never missed an important birthday or holiday date, and knows exactly where he should be when someone needs him to be there. As a rule, he's steadfast and true-- happy to help someone out as long as they go through the trouble of asking him. When it comes to class projects, Booker always holds up his end of the deal and more if asked to. There's really nothing a friend could ask of him that would get a negative response, and at the end of the day, he's at least one guy you know that isn't going to flake no matter what.
Flaws: Anxious - While Booker does his very damnedest to hide it, this is the real downside to finding one's considered charismatic. In essence, he's become somewhat dependent on getting along with others. When the occasion arises, Booker experiences sharp pangs of nerves at the realization that maybe-- just maybe--he's failing to charm someone. There's always that niggling feel at the back of his neck-- 's**t, what did I do now?,' 'Ack, s/he probably thinks I was hitting on her/him!-- WAS I?,' 'It's the shoes. I knew these were retarded. NNNRRRGH.' No matter how much he outwardly appears to play it cool, Booker owns some honestly frayed nerves that don't do well whenever he has to deal with a fallout. Understandably, that anxiousness makes him abysmal at confrontation with anyone whose opinion matters to him in the slightest. Fortunately, fighting is excellent stress relief.
Easily Flustered - This is a matter of temperament for Booker-- things get under his collar quickly. It's not that he's actually a peevish person and it doesn't have much to do with him breaking into capslock (he actually does that rarely), but it does mean that comments get to him. Small jabs form seeds of doubt in his mind and he agonizes. This works with the anxious behavior, but it also has to do with other things-- he becomes very passionate in debates and loses his temper if someone continues to disagree with his point of view. Being flirted with makes him have to give considerable pause before he can muster up a response that isn't '... /nervous laughter.' Things get to him and especially in a battle this could end with him forgetting his goals and just going after the person who's pissed him the hell off-- regardless of requested strategy.
Ridiculously Loyal - Before the torches come out and someone goes 'OMFG THAT IS NOT A FLAW'-- let's just explain how it fits that 'too nice' policy. How it really messes Booker up. He does not detach-- he does not let go. If he knows someone enough for them to become his friend and they in any way betray him, he won't pursue any personal justice. If after he becomes a Cavalier and they're taken by the Negaverse, he wouldn't lift a hand against them. There is nothing he can do once he finds himself thinking someone is important to him and Unplugging from a Senshi he's found himself attached to might break his heart in pieces for months at a time if he put that much trust in them to begin with. While one could say his platonic (and supposedly romantic) fidelity is admirable, it's mostly only caused him pain in the past and likely will in the future.
Too Trusting - This flaw can definitely go hand-in-hand with the fierce loyalty to create a devastating problem. Booker doesn't immediately barnacle himself to anyone breathing next to him, but if someone genuinely says they like him there's a gullibility factor that has him believing it. He believes sincerely in always giving someone the benefit of the doubt, but sometimes it works to uncomfortable extremes (less 'fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me' than '... So, eightieth time you fooled me, huh? But you really think you can change this time... right?'). This can compromise him in several ways-- especially as a cavalier-- but he does want to believe the best in people. He just wants to believe it again, and again, and... again... and again.
Challenge: Prepare yourself! -- Gawd, that's boring. But Book thinks it's classic.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Eyes: Almond shaped-- he is mostly Caucasian, after all. Booker suffers from a very vague, hard to see bout of heterochromia-- on the left side his eye is simply a pale golden-yellow, the other is a few shades darker. It's something that really takes a second or third look to see-- a popular genetic aberration in his mother's side of the family.
Hair: medium length (the longest part falls just below his chin)-- vaguely longer in the front than in the back giving it some shape. An average dark brown bordering on black-- however, he already has peppered gray and white around his temples and threading in all around his hairline. Again, it's common in his family to start losing some pigment there early on-- he's not bothered by it though it does give people the impression that he
should be older than a high school student.
Face: Strong featured with a sleek jawline and attractive cheekbones. Scattered over his body-- and the left side of his face-- are flat, dark brown moles that are often mistaken for freckles (though they appear far less frequently). His ears have a slight tilt and point-- not elfish at
all now that he's older, but they gave that impression when he was a young kid and he got a lot of grief for it from his peers until he grew into them. Still, often hidden under his hair just because.
Body: Standing at a very average (maybe slightly tall for his age) and even 5'10", Booker isn't exactly the most lethal of looking young men, but he's wiry and lean and can get where he needs to. He possesses a narrow waist and well-proportioned limbs-- fit enough for what he likes to do which tends to be very active (see Hobbies). Genetics are on his side and his natural bone structure would be classified as a medium build-- he's definitely not underweight, but he stays far enough away from the opposite category.
Fashion: Booker's sense of fashion is very minimal. He's happiest in a size-too-big t-shirts (often depicting images of band logos or video game characters) and jeans. There's nothing that really marks him as particularly special when it comes to the way he's dressed-- he's just a fan of simplicity. In the winter he'll put on a simple dark coat and gloves are never a statement-- just something to keep his hands warm before he can slip into the nearest heated building and strip them off. Summer finds him in sandals, but any other season is ragged and
used sneakers that desperately need some ductape or super glue to be passable.
Fuku Colour: Burnt gold
Weapon: Obviously his sword is a rapier, but for the specifics-- the handle is gold and thin with a hand guard made out of a spiral pattern that covers his hand in full (see the #1 sword
here).
