Uh.. well.. what is it? I didn't think it was really possible in the Gaian economy. Some gaians I used to know were of the very strong opinion that it was a myth. So, what's it all about?
Also, why are some 03s dropping in price? o_O; The Oct 03s were 3 mill last I checked, and now... sweatdrop

*Le Gasp!* A mod that doesn't know everything there is to know about Gaia? It's the end of the world! J/k
Artifical Inflation is where someone goes into the market(or the exchange) and basicly buys out every one of a specific item. To use a reacent event, lets say Angelic Pendants. After buying out every item on the market, you turn around and sell them all for absolutly terrifingly high prices. Like from 100k to something like 150k, or even 200k. Since their the only thing on the market, if you want one, you've got to pay that 200k, so the price goes way up on these items.
The Oct 03's droped drastically with the Sash dropping, and I think that was recovery from a Artifical Inflation, but I'm not sure. I tend to deal in the slightly newer items like the Yeti and such, so I don't get much of a chance to watch the 03 items, unless I'm after one of them.

The Dec 03 on the MP had a lower(almost 30k lower) than the scarves. The Sash and D-tail seem to have lost popularity from artificial inflation then a sudden influx of them into the market.

That.. uh.. what? @__@; I mean, how exactly is that proof? Rather, what's MP? Oh, marketplace. I guess that's good enough evidence. Why would there be an influx, I wonder? It's a little aggravating because I use a Sash and an Oct 03 letter for investing and such.. neutral

It's a little aggravating because I use a Sash and an Oct 03 letter for investing and such.. neutral Well I don't know to be sure but last year around this time, people sold off higher priced items to purchase many smaller christmas gifts for fellow users. That in and of itself could be the culprit. As for artificial inflation in general... it's really hard to prove artificial inflation unless all of an item are sold on the marketplace and the only 4 available are from the same user. Usually it's possible to check when that user goes into the exchange and claims to be taking offers on the same items and states that he/she has many of them. Alexi_Jameson has personally intervened to stop inflation through the use of dumping his own investment stashes out of his own pocket. This was documented as people spoke of it while it happened in the GCG thread (although the exact pages escape me at the moment).

Oh, that makes a lot of sense! I understand now. I will wait until well after Christmas to start panicking about my investments. smile Until then I have a couple of good 04 items under my proverbial belt so I'm not very worried. I seem to have acquired 300k again after spending it all.. I wonder if I should keep it or spend it.... @__@;
EDIT: Oh yeah, and dumping stashes into the MP is great, but how does it help combat inflation? Wouldn't the inflator just buy it all up, or even other inflators hoping to cash in on the price rise?

Like what the Grunny slippers are going through. They were just a couple of K, but now they are like 12-14k. It usually dies down in a couple of days.

A good example of artificial inflation would be the thing the Olympic Shirts are undergoing right now.
They used to be like.. 750g or so? A couple of days ago? Untill some morrons decided to buy all olympic shirts at the market. Not only the cheap/normal priced ones, but also the very expensive ones, like the ones which are 4k..
What happens then is, a lot of people are going to sell it only for that price, thus rising the price of the items. Most of the times artificially inflated items will deflate again, after a while. Not always though..
