Well, it's what the Scots call Burns' Night (the anniversary of the birth of Scotland's favorite poet, Robert Burns), and lookit wha' we've got here: a pretty Scottish lassie with Jacobite tendencies got lost on her way to her Burns' Night party. Fortunately, she loves this place so much, she wants to stay here, so she needs someone to crash with, and that someone could be you. Sadly, though, she's proving picky: she wants to see how much you guys know about Scotland and wants to give you a ticket for each correct answer on this survey she wrote--ah, actually, dictated to me. xd This contest closes Friday, 11:59pm PST, when she stops accepting entries and will have me roll to see who she's going to stay with. So how do you get tickets? You fill out the trivia form in the next post. Each correct answer will get you a ticket. The more correct answers you have, the more tickets you get. Who knows, we might even award you for style. wink You can use any source you'd like, whether you Wiki it or ask your dear, crotchety old Nanny. There *are* some pretty dang simple questions mixed in with some nasty questions for those who live and breathe Scottish life, to be fair. Seriously, if you're like that, you're either a cultural Celt like me, or you have an obsession with people like me. xd So, please, will ye no' step in out o' the cauld o' Januar' and gie this lassie a shot at a guid hame? (For non-Scots: D'you wanna try to get her? 8D)

1. What is the national flower and the national animal of Scotland? 2. Most European nations have a patron saint: which is Scotland's saintly patron? 3. Name the official Scottish national anthem and as many of the four unofficial Scottish national anthems as you can. 4. What does the white cockade symbolize? 5. Name and give a youtube link to your favorite Robert Burns poem. Yes, Auld Lang Syne counts. >> 6. Where did the famous flat Scottish bonnet, the tam o'shanter, get its name? 7. There's an almost twin pair of castles in Scotland, as unassailable as castles can be: which castles are they? 8. Is Braveheart a real person? 9. What is the "Auld Alliance?" 10. How many verses have you heard of "The Scotsman?" >D 11. Did the last question make you snicker or blush? No shame either way. Not even if you had to look up the song in question and then snickered or blushed. 12. What supposedly lives in Loch Ness? 13. Name as many Gaia items as you can that are Scottish in origin. (I can think of eight off the top of my head...) 14. What species of faery is the Kelp o' the Loch based off of? 15. Quote the most famous line of the Declaration of Arbroath (the world's first Declaration of Independence, and the ancestor of our own Declaration). 16. If you have any Scottish ancestry, name the last clan you know of in your direct ancestry. If not...spit out a random fact about Scotland~! 8D 17. What proof is single malt Scotch whiskey? Yes, elfy can drink that stuff, just not a whole shot glass yet. D8 18. Name your favorite domestic breed of animal native to Scotland. Horses, dogs, cattle, sheep, and cats *do* count for this. 19. In Celtic music, there's four tempos, but in Scotland, there's FIVE native tempos. List as many as you can, and specify which tempo is Scottish alone. 20. Last question: Post a youtube link to your favorite Scottish song by your favorite Scottish singer or band, so long as the whole shindig is Scottish. 8D Post your answers in a consolidated post in this thread. You're done~! 8D *Has been killed so many different ways and left in so many tiny and bloody particles that it's not even funny*

The thistle (because some clever Vikings sneaking up on the Scots barefoot stepped on one and screamed like a giiirrrlll) and the unicorn 2. Saint Andrew; the Scots saw a formation of clouds that looked like Saint Andy's cross before an important battle. xd 3. Official: God Save the Queen (they're still part of the UK, dears, last time I checked); Unofficial: (an official list of unofficial anthems, silly, eh?) Flower of Scotland, A Man's a Man For A' That, Scotland the Brave, Scots Wha Hae; I've never heard of Highland Cathedral being an unofficial anthem, but it *might* be used by certain marching or pipe bands, I'm just listing the stuff the Scots are *supposed* to sing at national events and what they *actually* usually sing. xd 4. the Jacobite cause 5. Kelpie 15. For as long as but a hundred of us remain alive, never will we on any condition be brought under English rule. It is not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself. 16. I'm only 1/32nd Scots, but I'm descended from the Royal Branch of Clan Steward~! >D *Shot by any and all Hanoverian sympathizers, who are shot by the Jacobites* 17.
