Also, This post reminded me of some video I found a while ago and I did lean they are related based off this quote from vocaloid wiki

These are Ranka videos. Ranka was voiced by the same person who did the voice data for GUMI. You can really see the resemblance between Gumi and Ranka. Heck until I noticed people calling her Ranka in the youtube threads and started reading the vocalid wiki (Thank you sis) I had not quite put together they where 2 different characters.
rofl I guess scene I now know the anime is called "Macross Frontier" I will have to check it out some time.
