Why are we coming back here? Astarteth asked again, completely forgetting what her rider had told her earlier that day. The green pumped her wings, catching the thermals, bobbing and diving in the air. She really was a pretty sight to see from the ground.

Because, beloved. I need a large box to store the random things that we have gathered since we left Ista. Kallista replied, letting the sun beat down in her face. She checked the courtyard and made sure the landing was clear. Patting Astarteth on the shoulder, she prepared to land. Don't forget to introduce yourself.

Astarteth of High Reaches. The green told the older blue on watch duty. Daintily she landed and held still while Kallista slid off and took her helmet off. The green folded her wings close and turned to look at her most precious. And who do you look for?

"I am searching for Beth, the crafter's daughter. I need to place an order with her father who is a carver." Kaliista spoke outloud for her dragon's sake and the sake of the drudge who had just run up.

Beth sits behind the display holding various boxes avaliable for purchase. A small wooden plank with a hide stretched over it is balanced carefully on her lap. A piece of rough charcoal held in her left hand was wrapped in a strip of hide to prevent it getting on her fingers.

She lifts her attention from the hide to the little blue flit curled up sleeping on a small table. A finger gently nudges him and he cheeps softly in irritation at having his napped disterbed. Crooning, a green balances on her shoulder with her tail lightly wrapped around the girl's neck.

She didn't have the slightest idea what was going on, but her person kept looking at the thing on her lap then at her other flit. She liked to watch her person put the lines down and so she watched. The hide then the blue and back to the hide mimicing her person. It almost looked as if both the girl and flit were doing the drawing.

The drudge bobbed his head up and went to go find 'Beth, the wood crafter's daughter'. He twisted and turned and asked questions until at last he found her staring at a piece of wherhide with charcoal in hand and flit near her should.

"B-beth. There is a rider from High Reaches here to speak to you or your father."

In the meanwhile...

Kallista was enjoying a meat roll and glass of water. This would probably be one of the last free visits she had anywhere. With H'pez the new Weyrleader and she part of the Weyrleader's wing... If she thought drills took up most of her time now.

Absentmindedly, she leaned against Astarteth and began to scratch her hide.

Beth looks up at the drudge and blinks. "A dragonrider? But I don't... Oh! maybe..." She glances back over her shoulder as she puts her stuff to the side. "Papa I'm going to go talk to a dragonrider." Moving to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear she leaves a charcoal streak on her right cheek.

Hopping down from the stool she leaves Streak with a pat and bounces along after the drudge. Widget clings to her right shoulder and wraps her tail just a little tighter. "Widget you'd better not try to choke me again."

As they come around a stall and into sight of the rider and her dragon, Beth takes a deep breath and slowly lets it out. She tilts her head to Widget and whispers, "Wow, I didn't expect her to be so big. They don't look that big in the sky...."
Widget looks at the green dragon and blinks. How could she not look big in the sky? She did. Her head tilts back toward's Beth's in the expected manor and she gives a little cheep.

There is the little one who caught your attention. Hurry and speak with her, I wish to return to our weyr. I think I have caught the eye of a bronze. Astarteth flicked her tail and turned away.

Ignoring her green, Kallista gave the girl a wave. The girl, Beth, seemed timid. Trying to keep as cool as possible, Kallista moved forward and smiled. "Hello again Beth. I need to commission your father for a storage box. And you said you wanted to see Astarteth up close."

Beth gives a wide grin. "Kallista! Your back, its good to see you and Astarteth." She stops a polite distance from the dragon. "What size would you like and what is the storage for?" Her eyes keep darting from the rider to the dragon and back. She wanted to be polite and give her attention to the rider, but she also wanted to study the dragon just a little. Streak was ok for a model in his own way. "If its for small items father can make removable compartments. Oh you'll have to pick a design for the outside and inside."

Widget looks at the person Her's is talking to and cheeps politely

"I need something to hold random trinkets and odd pieces. So maybe about as long as my arm and half as deep? I really like having the braided pattern and I am not worried about compartments or anything." Kallista answered the girl's question. She had already removed her helmet and was in the process of tucking her jacket into the side bag attached to her leathers. It was so hot to her but she tried to ignore it.

Astar continued to remain still and aloof, eyes whirling fast but still at a darker blue-green color. She would rather be flying than still right now. Knowing that her rider was going to take a while, she turned and looked at the little one who had cheeped. Carefully, she exhaled at the creature and waited for the fun.

Beth nods, "Lets head back to my stuff and I'll see what I can sketch up. Do you know what type of wood you want?" She grins and gives a wave to her dragon. Just as she turns to head back a big gust comes up (from the dragon) and sends the little green flit tumbling off her shoulder. Beth gasps and reaches a hand out for her. "Widget!"

Widget squawks as she's sent tumbling head over tail before vanishing between. "Oh! Oh dear. Poor Widget.

"Astarteth. That is enough. I do not care what type of mood you are in, you will have some manners. Coax the little one back. Now. Or I will use the fish oil on your hide and the old brush." Kallista commanded angrily. She tried to keep her cool, her dragon's mood slightly affecting her own. Taking a deep breath, she turned to the girl and gave her best apologetic look.

"I am sorry. Astar has been in a mood lately. Still she has no right to be rude like that... I would love to see what you could sketch up."

Now officially in a sulk, the green's eyes were darker but she did as she was told and sent a mental command for the flit to come back to her mistress. Tucking her wings and taill, she told Kallista in a small voice. I didn't mean it. I wanted to have fun... It's so dull here.

Beth blinks with her mouth in an 'o' as she listens to the rider chastising her dragon. She isn't sure how to react and her cheeks get a pink tint. "I'm sorry I didn't know flits upset her. I wont bring Widget next time. Widget appears with her name and cheeps. Her eyes whirl worriedly, she really didn't like getting blown around and would rather not again. Alighting on Beth's shoulder she looks around in all directions. Beth reaches up to pat Widget assuredly. "It's alright, everyone has an off day." She smiles at the rider then dragon, "I hope you feel better Astarteth."

Quickly she walks to the booth and pulls out a string after transferring Widget to an open spot. "You said you wished it as long as your arm and half as tall right? May I take a measurement?"
Widget tucks her tail around her feet and sits to watch. A blue head lifts up to glare balefully at the green, then gives a soft hiss.

"She isn't the fondest of them but she can still be polite. And thank you for your concerns. I am sure she will be in a much better mood soon." Kallista reassured the girl.

When the girl asked to measure her arm, Kallista held out her right arm as straight as could be and waited politely to be measured. "So you are from High Telgar? What is the Hold like here?"
PostPosted: Wed Apr 14, 2010 9:11 pm

Beth smiles. "That's good. If there's something I could do that would make her day better I wouldn't mind." She chatters pleasantly as she holds the string up to Kallista's arm. With a practiced twist she makes a small knot at the appropriate length.

Grabbing a scrap of hide, Beth quickly jots down a few notes on the piece, the sizes, design. She glances at Kallista. "What type of wood would you like? I'm sorry if you told me earlier, I forgot. And do you want it stained darker?"

Her head shakes, "Nah I'm not from here. My pa and ma come here to trade their goods. We live in the mountains a-ways. Actually its a valley between two mountains. It's really pretty and ma raises the best runners 'round." She states with pride, though her opinion may be biased.... just a little.
Widget gives a cheep of agreement from where she's watching.

"SKybroom if you have it. I know it costs more but it is very much worth it. If not, then some sort of hardy wood. Light in color please." Kallista watched the girl with keen interest. She, herself, had never really had any craft talents.

"A trader? How nice, do you travel and see much?" The green rider was doing her best to make polite conversation. She listened to the girl brag about her family. Of course, Kallista had done the same thing when she was a bit younger. Not that she was old.

Now, all she ever bragged about was her green. And what a lovely, most shining green there ever was... Holding in a sigh of love, Kallista sent forgiving thoughts to hers. "Hm? Runner beasts, do you race them?"
PostPosted: Tue Apr 27, 2010 11:08 am

The girl chuckles, "If pa doesn't have it on hand he'll know where to. He usually does, I think that's one of his favorite woods to work." She jots down a few more notes then nods.

Beth stands up straight, stretching. "Traders? Us? Nah, pa's a woodscraftsman. Carver and designer like and mama's a runnerbeast breeder. We only really travel here, so its not much but its enough." She grins happily.

"Well I suppose some of mama's runners might be used for racing. Doubt many really have the speed. She breeds for stamina she says and an easy gait. Whut use are they if they aint no fun to ride? That should do it Rider. My guess is a couple sevenday 'til it'll be ready. Shall we fly our flag or would you rather pick it up here?"
