I am in northern New Jersey and we have a very active Cache society hear(so does most of new jersey but this state is more like three states then one). We have monthly meet and greets, celebrate major milestones with events, and so on. One thing we have though is a lot of Geocache celebrities. Some of the big ones are Old Navy-he is the president of the northern New Jersey Chapter and has some of the best Caches out there, IMSpider-the man who found out about caching while mountain climbing and will cache in any weather recently found his 10,000 cache, and moozehead2020- the man who has some of the most evil puzzle caches out there, sometimes people have to work in groups to just figure out how to start his puzzles. So is there any Geocaching Celebrities in your area and how active is your Geocaching society their.

Louisville has a good sized geocaching community also and a few celebrities. The best known names here are "Show Me The Cache", "Deermark" and "Jeepstaff" to name a few. They have humongous numbers as well (over 12k, 13k and 11k respectively).
We have monthly gatherings at area restaurants and several "Trail Mix" hikes each year.
The biggest event each year is the Octoberfest at Windy Rock which is an old farm which is now a grassy hill with forest, lake and a large pavilion used for wedding receptions. It is owned by one of the cacher's aunt and she lets us camp out there for 3 days (2 nights) free. Usually 100+ people show up for cookouts, bonfire, tent camping and night caching.
Usually we try to return the favor by showing up in April for another camp out where we help clean up the farm after the winter. Gather fallen branches, pull the paddle boats out of the barn, string barbed wire fences and more.
