OMG!!! A serious topic. Well, Since we need more topics I figured I would make an incredibly vague/serious one. I would like a realistic sense, not a idealistic sense although some may contend that the two are the same... I don't know just debate about it. The future of yuri may be bright or it may not.
Ideas to think about: *The increase in anime oriented to the moe loving fanbase. *The decrease in the amount of anime made in Japan. *Growing acceptance over homosexuality in general. *More yuri anime being made (kind of) Aoi hana, Jogoku Shoujo, Moryo no Hako, That anime made by Kadokawa with a white dragon and chains and a flaming sword.

Ideally, I would like to see Yuri as more part of the story than the main focus (romance/fantasy vs. plain fantasy), although I do love good 'ol romance too. I think it'd be more interesting where it's like "yeah she's a lesbian" vs. "I thought about kissing a girl and that's just weird! but it didnt seem bad either.."
I dunno, overall more of less denying lesbianism/yuri in general from the get-go.
Moe is cute, but I like more realism than that. 0.o

I would love to see more anime like Strawberry Panic (especially since it has been discontinued) I like the cute storylines where a girl isn't sure she wants to be with this other girl and then after awhile they finally get together and the story goes from there. I think there will be more yuri coming out though, I have seen more series at least involving it somewhere in the story so maybe it will inspire others to make a yuri series.

I believe that yuri anime in the future should have the Kashimashi fell. In other words, the characters are lebian, but the show itself has a love triangle thing going on. One girl likes this girl and another girl likes the same girl. But then the girl that has 2 crushes loves both but can only choose 1. And right when you think a couple is formed, there's a 4th girl, and it gets more confusing. I guess what I'm trying to say is that most people watch yuri to see the yuri, no fingers being pointed (Jennifer's Body). And I think yuri should be lovely, sweet, and romantic. But at the same time, it should use real emotion and passion and not anything like RPing or fantasy (although that would be kinda cool). But that's why people make websites with that kind of stuff on it.

I see the future of anime and Yuri in the same way I see the future of the entertainment industry at large: a very large shift towards the more awkward moments, incapable to express their feelings clearly and most impotantly, tons of trying to be cool and hip, when they really just wanna relax around those they love, but can't. One example of where I think the progression of lesbian storytelling can be seen in the movie The Kids are All Right. Other than that, I continue to see the steamy factors of Yuri being exploited for profits by the corporations behind the anime industry, while ignoring all the humanity that makes Yuri appealing to begin with

While I would love to see more yuri anime and manga with actual lesbians, it doesn't seem to be what the Japanese audience is interested in. Erica explained it pretty well: Okazu YNN Correpondent ashi pointed out that the Crunchyroll Newsletter addressed the question "Why is there more Yuri these days?" Yuricon Mailing List Member Jacob summed it up well when he said, "Maybe it is because such relationships are more accepted. Maybe because it sells. But probably both." However...based on the conversation about "Fufu" on 2chan, I would say that same-sex relationships are nowhere near being accepted in Yuri fandom. The channel was split between people who insisted that Yuri and lesbian are the same (which they clearly are not) and those who said plainly that they don't want lesbians in their Yuri. Which leaves - there's more Yuri because it sells. Considering that series focused on fanservice and/or moe seem to be the biggest sellers, and companies make what people buy, I'd guess that there will be a trend towards more moe/fanservice yuri. Occasionally we'll get series that don't fall into those categories, but they'll be few and far between.

Hmm; I would like to see more 'realistic' stories when it comes to comic genre's like yuri and yaoi and such. Well, lemme rephrase the 'realism' part- I'd like to see a greater portion of stories with plot elements that pretain to real life and/or have weight to them. So I guess I'm asking for something that's along the lines of what Tezuka would write in terms of relationships and such, and also things more in the direction of 'Shiroi Heya no Futari,' as the originals and classics, I believe, should always be something to aspire to in terms of quality of work and such.
I think that the future of yuri, and all other comics, lies in becoming more versatile and innovative in therms of stories and how they're carried out- media that's centered around homosexual love tends to get generic and fall in the vein of 'person a meets person b, it takes about three pages for them to fall in love, they have sex or some other form of intimate whatever, and the story ends,' or something in that style, which has been done so much and is so aggrivatingly and infuriatingly bland and overused. ): I know that things can only be done so many times before everything's done, and I do believe that we're living in a cultural period where 95% of things indeed have been done, unfortunately, but there are still fresh, new ways of presenting ideas and themes.

I think Yuri will end up getting more popular as the years go by. Though the amount of Yuri anime is small, I bet that publishers will realize it makes for a better plot divise than just throwing it into hentai (though that isn't really bad ether)

Moe needs to burn in my opinion. The love for one specific character trait denies the character the ability to be liked or disliked as a whole. It's such a shallow idea it's pathetic.
Anywho, I do agree that yuri manga seem to move incredibly fast as far as the relationships go. I think that's due to being printed in specialty magazines over large magazines like Shoujo Beat or Jump. They do need to take a more realistic approach to the relationship building or use less common plot elements. I've actually seen one by Taishi Zaou that took elements from hentai manga and include them, and to my chagrin it was the one element I despise most; netorare. Although it still had a happy ending unlike 90% of hentai that includes netorare, it still pissed me off.
