I just finished reading a...book ::it was an online story that was long enough to take me seven hours to read, so it might as well have been a book >.<::. There were several things going on in this story, that all centered around the utter destruction of the main character's sanity; besides from some of the more obvious things that occurred in the story, such as physical abuse of said character. The mental devastation of the character within what I have read has left me with...a very, kind of, shocked feeling. Has anyone else read something that has scared you or shocked you badly enough that you admire the...elasticity of the human mind, and the kind of abuse it can take before it's bearer just gives up? Something that you just have to sit back and wonder how we can bear these things, then in turn, coalesce trauma enough as to form a retelling of sorts that has an absolutely jaw-dropping effect on the reader?

What were you reading Mina?
I've been trying to explain a book that I read, a really sad part that totally riped apart the main character, his lover commited suicide because his brother was murdered and there was nothing he could do to avenge it, and the main character and his lover were very close because the main character had no one else, everyone basically despised him because of the way he was. I don't remember much, but the part made me cry crying . He was so emotionally ripped apart that he attempted to commit suicide, but he did it the wrong way so he survived, and he shut himself back down again and refused to let anyone close to him, he had done the same thing before and his lover brought him out of it.
Wow ...I bet that makes no sence.

Wow ...I bet that makes no sence. *raises hand* I understood every word of it! I've read several books like that. One of them was based on a real story about the third worst child abuse case in California. (that they know of anyway) and it was written by the little boy in the story, only he's all grown up now and writing down his memories. The book is called A Child Called It, and it made me cry multiple times while I was reading it.

I've heard of that book before, Kellivara, but I never knew what it was about. Now I think I might check it out ^^
BR, of course that made sense. What book was that, because it sounds like what I've been reading in the last month, and I'd really enjoy reading this story O.o

It made sense BR. I for one read a lot of stuff like that. Mainly fanfiction. *shrugs* Books/written material like that just draws me in. The feeling I have after reading one is inexplicable. I just sit in awe, admiring the writer's skill.

One book taht struck me deeply wasn't too long, or too uncommon, I bet Neze may've read it. it's called "Speak" it's about a girl who's raped at a party the summer before her first year in highschool and becomes an outcast because she called the police but couldn't tell anyone what happened and plus, the boy who did it was a popular Junior, like quarterback or something. Actually, her best friend's future boyfriend.

I'm so glad that we have a book-related discussion in here, because the written word is the blood that flows through my veins. I've been devouring books for as long as I can remember.
I'm very similar to Raiva in that the author's skill is often what awes me, rather than the plot. There's the rare instance when both the plot and writing are of inconceivable quality, though, and that's when a book touches me the most. In Intro English this year we read a book called Fugitive Pieces by Canadian author Ann Michaels (it may have been Anne; I'd check my book if it wasn't already packed), and it was absolutely awe-inspiring. The entire book could have been a poem for how fluid and poetic it was, and the plot was so stunning and thought-provoking. You couldn't help but develop a firm attachment to the characters, and there were so many instances where I had to cry for the sheer magnitude of emotion and meaning. It was strange, however, because certain things didn't hit me until long after I had read them. I don't want to go into too much detail so I don't spoil it for anybody who decides to read the book.
Another author whose works I love is Donna Jo Napoli. Her fairy-tale retellings and her story Daugther of Venice have the perfect combination of eloquence and interest. One thing to note about her writing style is that she uses very different points of view than the average author. Her novels are more likely to read, "I step into the water" or "He steps into the water" rather than the usual "I stepped into the water". (After writing it so many times the word step has lost all meaning to me XD) Often when I read her books I have to stop for a moment just to revel in the beauty of her writing.

The main characters name was Vanyel. If you REALLY want to know what the books are called, PM Orestria and ask her what the trilogy is called. She lent me the books, which is why I don't know a lot about them.

I've read it about eight times at this point and it STILL makes me cry!

Hm..
There was this one book I read that really got to me..I liked the way it was written and such. I made some of my friends read it..one couldn't get past a few pages for some reason.
Anyway. Tis by Caroline Kettlewell, called 'Skin Game'.
I hate crying from books for some reason sweatdrop Whenever I read Redwall books I always find myself crying, because the other sure likes killing off all the really courageous people sad
