What is your interpretation of these two sub genres? I get easily irritated when I go shopping as paranormal romance is shelved in romance, and urban fantasy is shelved with fantasy.
I wish these two were shelved together, but my favorite authors are scattered evenly between the two genres. JR Ward & Rachel Vincent are normally shelved as paranormal romance (Ward sometimes hiding in the horror section), Patricia Briggs & Kim Harrison are shelved as urban fantasy, and I've seen Charlaine Harris be anywhere from hiding in romance, fantasy, and even mystery.
I suppose my problem is being a YA graduate to the two genres. I liked everything being categorized by author, regardless of subgenre.
Do you have any problem with these categories making books hard to find? Is everything of this novel type shelved the same at your library/bookstore?

Oh my goodness what an interesting dilemma you seem to have! Well, I'm still a little kid (on the inside, being 19) and continue to dabble in the realm of YA fiction. But, sadly, it IS starting to become less and less...Entertaining.
So, tell me about these authors you mentioned? What are some titles I should be checking out, since I like Urban Fantasy and Fantasy?
Ah, and I think that they should be shelved together too...I tried to find "A Great and Terrible Beauty" by Libba Bray. It was in the science fiction section....when it is really urban fantasy-ish. Or fantasy....Erg.

Well, the two are often combined in one book nowadays anyway. Thanks to the Twilight vampire fad. I haven't really found this to be a problem because, while I like both genres, I like Urban Fantasy more. (If romance is in a book, I just count it as a plus, usually, I don't read a book because of it.) I've been really into reading High Fantasy lately, though. So, I haven't really thought about it. At my bookstores, I can generally find what I'm looking for or like to read in three sections: YA, Fantasy/Science Fiction section (I DO hate that those two are shelved together mad ) and the comic section. Bookstores where I live don't have a whole lot in the way of variety, though. crying
