We currently have a guild member request that I'm not sure I should let join. All this user has for his reason why to join is that he is here for the gold.

I don't understand, how do you get gold from joining a guild? Should I pursue and see if they are interested in the guild for other reasons, just let them join anyway (more members the better), or refuse their request? If it's another option please explain.
